For anyone who gives a xxxxx, The Storms, all from Leigh Park : Bernie Morley, guitar, (from the chip-shop); Alan Ordish, bass ( from one of the central pubs ); Rob Tall, vocals; Mick Eveleigh, bass when Alan left; Paul Acourt, drums. Bernie and Mick still gigging around Pompey. Rob died this year in Germany which he took to after we toured there in the mid-60s.
Haha - weird - i fell out of a tree-rope in a woods at Leigh Park around 1955 - landed in a a loada mud and got stick from mum when i showed up in ASHLEY CLOSE. My family were in the first refugees from bombed pompey - used to play on bomb-sites in old pompey until they shipped us out to the splendours of Leigh Park in 1953 - it was good for the first 10 years i guess. We left when i was 19 and that's a looong time ago. I'll do a video-response - TheStorms got to StarClub, Hamburg in '65/66.
Had to post a comment, I used to live in a house by the little roundabout, by the church where the buses use to stop, late 70's early 80's I was 10 - 17. I used to do the shit sticks at the buses too lol, frogspawn newts from the dam, bats on the giant steps at sun set Happy days. I live in London now and haven't seen warren park for 30years or so. I used to play around there was I was a kid. What's even more funny is that we used to do shitsticks here too!!! One day I hit a bus driver right in the mush because he left his window open!!! He chased us for bloody miles. How I managed to run like I did and piss myself laughing at the same time is beyond me : )
Is that the tree that used to have the rope swing on it? If so I fell from it also, fell 40 feet and broke my collar bone :-( I used to live in Southfield Walk. We called the hill the 'Shop Hill' and me and my m8s at the time also done shit sticks from the Giant Steps. A lot seems to have changed since I last saw it. Where is the building gone on top of the giant steps, you could climb down to the tunnel from that building. Thanks for posting fella, nice memories.
Yep, that IS the tree! A mate of mine fell off it a few times too, as did I. You're only 2 years younger than me and I used to be over Southfield a lot. I used to live in Larkwhistle Walk. Name's Dave Thorpe. Might know you. Mates over that side included Neil Austin, Mark Jackson/Bishop. Loads of others as well. The giant steps building got taken down a few years back. I do'n live there anymore - just went back to see it all. Freaked me out! See ya
