  • in today's music no one sings like that, right? that's why anyone is called a "singer" now...

  • Beautiful, sad and true.

  • De acuerdo con delta. estamos aquí por sensibles no por matones.

  • nice song.

  • great song! love this guy!

  • no chileno pelotudo la autoria de este tema es de pat metheny lyle mays y david bowie

    informate si no sabes pelotudo

TO CHILE MY ABSOLUTELY ADMIRATION FOR THE AUTOR OF THIS SONG, DAVID BOWIE...

  • Very good

  • Rest in Peace Mark Ledford.. The black singer with the glasses.. RIP 2004

  • just once I'd love to see Bowie do this tune with PMG Live...That would be something

  • And on the 11 day God made a guitar............

  • @MrDaxter008 he didnt make it, he just let Metheny borrow his v_v

  • i've always been a huge PMG fan... this is a great song but not nearly as good wothout Bowie... no one resembles Bowie

  • @seabreeez1 Bowie's genius helped create the song.

  • USA- The best of all the empires throughout the history..She could have been much better,,,Maybe after Islamist terrorism's defeat,,,So long U S A

  • @fairytale9401

Yea, America chose to hate and go for greed.

We had a chance for people like Bird, Coltrane, Metheny, Mclaughlin, Miles etc. to fill the mainstream. But here in America, it's about the boob tube and what sells. etc. And this is just talking about the music industry.

  • Very good....this is Pat Metheny

  • Metheny mused aloud why this song was such a hit in Europe, but not so much in the U.S.. "Well, this IS America .... maybe that's why".

  • @nobodady1 well the truth hurts

  • A fabulous song. Why argue about these two fabulous singers and Pat. Unbelievable way they handled this great song. I love it.

  • ..OH! Is not??... Is this Sparta then??...

GREAT SONG anyways. I'd never heard this Japan concert before. GREAT VERSION!

  • So long America, it was a great run.

  • Interesting but the whole point of the sung melody is to be syncopated on the beat of the entire song so their way of singing with some long notes doesn't really work but it's hard to beat Bowie and the original

  • Pat wrote the tune anyways

  • Es un genio. The best

  • same thing

  • Obama's Theme Song

  • @CliffieCharles No, it's Canada's.

  • This is not America... this is something much better, this is Europe

  • @Mik5OO While everyone is understandably proud of their own countries and heritages, I find it interesting that people aren't exactly busting down Europe's doors to get in (except for Muslims), but they certainly all want to come to America, despite our problems. I wonder why?

  • @ecmcomichael I'm only joking!! Why is that? 1) They have utopian ideas about America, they think, they will become rich automatically. 2) Well, European countries (primarily France - Africans, Germany - Turks, England - Pakistanis) actually have problems (because of the social service - more money goes to the unemployed (than in the USA))

  • @Mik5OO Fair enough!

  • @Mik5OO ::dearasshole, how many times has the U S saved europes ass from their own despots? We will not again, to hell with you all.

  • @obhuicoksetyaetse1 Attitude! Im joking! (not saying, that it is not the truth:)

  • This gentleman is sheer class! Long may he reign!

  • GREAT!!!

  • WOW!

  • Awesome awesome awesome! Bravo!

  • I wish Pat and Bowie made an album together. For that alone I would buy more from both of them.

  • I know the lyrics to this song that weren't on CD. This is one slammin' tune. Blamires and Ledford belted it it out on this vocal battle royal, but they nailed it!

  • Remember this song that was on the "We Live Here" DVD? Dave Blamires was originally from Toronto, Canada. He now lives in Chicago.

  • Dave Blamires rules!!

  • I have only one CD by Dave Blamires. That CD is wirth listening to.

  • This is one of my favorite songs! It is slammin'!

  • We love those guys, but especially Pat!

  • OMG! I love Dave Blamires! But, Mark Ledford? Mark passed away in 2004.

  • Dave Blamires, we love you!

  • I'm a diehard PMG fan!

  • @00810061 STOP SPAMMING!!

  • Well, it's not sung by David Bowie, but nevertheless a rendering live-version of this eigthies hit-single...

  • Everytime I hear this song (which I love very much), I can only think how the leaders of

our government have represented the greedy, power hungry sons of bitches that are

stealing, raping, plundering, and murdering this great country. Don't listen to the lies

and brain washing techniques of our sold out media. The incompetence and ignorance displayed by the administrations of the last 30 years only demonstrate that

these people are unqualified to run this great nation "AMERICA"!

  • I just did my research on the lyrics for Dream of the Return...

    Wow. Brought me to tears.

Pat Metheny only works with the best.

  • Amazing song!

  • great song.

  • PMG is the only thing outside of myself that takes my mind away from the gulf region... Sadly... This is America

  • Mark was a gift from god.. It was pure magic to see him live.. The sounds he created with that voice.. If you were blessed to see the " Secret Story" "Letter From Home" " Still Life Talking" tours can relate.

  • This is not a miracle. ;) This is. ;)

  • the greatest jazz player to have ever lived, mixed with two amazing and harmonic vocalists, and poetic lyrics... wow

  • What happened to us? We used to be the beacon of light and hope for the whole entire world. What happened to us? Why do we not act responsibly with our freedom? Why do we not think responsibly with our freedom of thought? Why do we not speak responsibly with our freedom of speech?

  • @All2JesusiSurrender / It's all the "freedom of speech" ie; TODAY'S rap.

We are breeding a very smart generation until they can decide for themselves what respect means to them & allow stupidity in today's celebrities INFLUENCE THEM & TAKE AWAY THE BEAUTY THAT WAS THEIR FRESH MINDS.

    Terribly sad!

  • anybody know the guys name singing on the right? I heard he passed away recently. can anybody confirm?

  • @summersbr1 - His name is Mark Ledford, and he sadly passed away some years ago from a heart attack in his early 40's. A great loss.

  • @gasaholic47, thank you for confirming that for me

  • This Is Not America Pat Matheny Japan 1995

  • what a great song

  • Really good

  • this i utter perfection

  • I wish you could this version on an album or CD.

  • find the soundtrack from Falcon and the Snowmman - Pat Matheny

  • @tuneapiano Thanks.

  • Bowie only.

  • Excuse me, but the funny looking guy on the left leaves Bowie in the dust a billion times.

    I know.

Bowie is now nothing more than a cartoonish, selfish billionaire.

  • Thats the great thing about opinions....everyone is entitled to one.

  • GuitarGare what Bowie might be - in your opinion- now does not have any effect how he did this song back then.

  • Magnifico, excelente, soberbio, Metheny se merece todos los mejores calificativos, grande...

  • Wow! Prachtige uitvoering!

  • Love it!

  • The first time i ever heard of Pat Metheny Group was seeing Falcon and the Snowman. I've been with them every since.

  • I saw Pat Metheny group during the imaginary day tour and he had Mark Ledford with him. What an unbelievable talent. My young kids are getting into jazz and they love him....was deeply saddened to hear that he had passed away. Check out his work on the song "follow me" which can be found on you tube. One of the best songs ever and his contribution is great.

  • UM GRANDE SHOW DE BOLLLAAAAAAAA

  • These guys are the best ever!! I love the different versions. It's all exceptional!!

  • This is amazing!

  • Am I the only one saddened by having only about a 1-second clip of Michael at the very end? heh Thanks for this upload!

  • Mark Ledford was such a great guy. Very kind, friendly, and so darn talented. He is deeply missed.

  • I remember this from the movie and searched

out the soundtrack - very cool!

  • It was based on a real story about two best friends, here in San Diego. I have the 12" vinyl record and vhs tape.

  • yeah amazing flick and this song is a timeless classic.bowie's version is amazing and this is even tighter,R.I.P. MARK LEDFORD

  • Amazing arranging, amazing voices, amazing song writing!

Thanks mother earth for any 80's music.

  • andy this isn't 80's music

  • It actually is. The song is the sound track of the movie "The Falcon and the Snowman" was composed by David Bowie and Pat, released on Feb 1985.

  • ok,my bad

  • ...and don't forget Mays. I'm willing to bet he did the majority of the writing with Bowie. I saw this line up in Upstate New York. Always liked this song but was blown away when I experienced it live. So much going on; all different disparate pieces fitting so perfectly together. Brilliant song no matter who wrote it.

  • Jazzplayer11.. Your statement confirms that a beautiful piece of art is always classic and timeless. It is forever

  • Canzone meravigliosa!!!

  • Amazing!!

  • I cannot get enough of this rendition. I listen to it at least twice per day. Mark Ledford and the other singer just knock me out! Not to mention the band. Whew, well gotta go & listen and dance to it once again. I can get some pretty serious dance moves down with this tune. YEAH!

  • same man this version is like lyrical crack - yo the white guy is David Blmasris and a very cool cat,I spoke with him on myspace recently actually about the sudden popularity of this rendition on youtube hahaha

  • RIP Mark Ledford.

  • Do you know when this was performed?

  • I believe this was during the "We Live Here" tour.

  • hooooo dios que hermoso!!

  • niesamowita interpretacja, oni są wspaniali

  • A little piece of you The little peace in me Will die For this is not america Blossom falls to bloom This season Promise not to stare Too long For this is not a miracle There was a time A storm that blew so pure For this could be the biggest sky And I could have The faintest idea...
  • @przesieka It's "we'll die".

  • :-( how did mark lefford die!?

  • Tragically, the gifted and incredibly talented Mark Ledford passed away from a fatal heart attack at the young age of 44.

His music legacy lives on in fantastic performances like this.

  • I could be wrong, but I think he had a heart attack in his sleep.

  • RIP

  • the cameraman liked the singers

  • Just so sad about Mark Ledford. A magnificent voice, taken too young.

  • SO TRUE

  • It's good to see Mark Ledford (singer w/glasses) again. Such a multi-talent on trumpet, guitar, marimba, voice etc... it's sad that he died so young.

  • how nice

  • This is now my most favorite version of this song

  • this america goood...

  • who are the singers?

  • Comment removed

  • the white guy is David Blamires

  • Comment removed

  • The guy with glasses is Mark Ledford.

Good to see him again. May he rest in peace.

  • Hey folks, check out my version of Cantaloupe Island with my band Gremory, wherein I pay homage to Pay Metheney paying homage to Herbie Hancock! The song is retitled "Cannibal Island" on my page.

  • Beautiful.

I saw Metheny on this very tour, 'We live here'. I recognized the set right way.

One of the finer concerts I have seen.

Festival du Jazz du Montreal, early 90s.

    Thanks for posting this gem.

    Cheers

  • QUALITY IS TIMELESS

  • yeh

  • Cuba Gooding Jr. is really a good singer, no? Kidding... great version from the master Metheny.

  • The individual you are refferring too is Mark Ledford.

  • thank you. I didn´t know... he´s got an excelent voice.

  • Yes, Mark Ledford, Rest in Peace.

  • YES A LOST TALENT - IMMACULATE VOICE

  • david bowie is david bowie but awesome version!

  • good one, but . . original ( with David...)

    is THE BEST !

  • People should not be afraid of their government.......Government should fear their people...V

  • Love this song - both versions !!! (Pat's and David's) Thanks for posting.

  • This is not America, it's Japan

  • Sha la la la la Look up Brooksley Born

  • Sha la la la la this is not America. Snowman melting from inside........................................this is not the miracle. I am glad we like the music but am sad we have missed the message. THIS IS NOT AMERICA oooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh this is not the miracle. Thank God we have a new leader worthy to sholder this great task laying before him. He csn do so much but don't expect too much (everything)from him as he is like you and me......human

  • This song and your messages are so apt!! America hasn't been America since the so-called 'Patriot' Act. Maybe since the world lost JFK, MLK and RFK. Tomorrow there is a new President and hope. May God protect.

  • Love Bowie's version this one is awesome. But it is the message. the song itself. Should be sung at the ballgames. Point is what America is has more to do with tea in a harbor than the idiots that talk of open markets. There is a Lady I would like you all to remember. Brooksley Born. She could have wrote this song. But told to shut up and sit down. Sha la la la la... She was like Greenspan but in charge of futures. She wanted these Credit Defaualt SWAPS regulated.

  • My friend lived close to where this happened in CA. I love this CD thx for posting the live version.

  • Only Mr. Metheny would know whom can pull this song off! Immaculate performance. This is a reminder that I have a loooong way too go to say that I can sing! ;)

  • the instrumental version is more beautiful to listen.

  • I didn't think I'd like the lyrical version, but I love it as much as the instrumental

  • excellent sound, pat and his band are great

  • The best music era ever (David Bowie, Pat Metheny Group, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Andreas Vollenweider and on and on).

  • I perfer this version over David Bowie's

  • Saw it live and it still lives for all in this vid....should be an anthem for NOW. Great tune, thanks Pat

  • Pat should now do one called...'This is America'

  • "should be an anthem for NOW"

    no more now ,I hope

  • Wow! I never heard this live version before, I like it! This was from the movie " Falcon and the Snowman" Originaly David Bowie did the lead vocals - Thanks for the post!

  • beautiful! this was awesome! i loved this!

  • great! thanks :)

  • The song is excellent, but without the angelically sexy vocals of a certain handsome, talented British gentleman whose initials are DB, it loses something

  • What is America except "FREE GONE WILD"!!!!!! I love this country but it is so out of control. One day, the America we read about in the constitution will truly exist. Much luv and a long life...........

  • ...well said, tears r tryin to come out...but im holding them man.

  • This is not... Bowie!

  • thats why its better

  • No!

  • Love Pat Metheny. Great interplay between the "lead" vocals.

  • Regardless of the fact that it seems that Americans will use any media to argue their positions, the music still rings with beauty, truth and passion. Et enfin, peut-etre contre que vous pensez, le monde entiere jamais regardent l'Amerique avec nos esperes, nos reves, nos admirations, et dolores. We are all brothers joined by music and hopes. This may be what David Bowie, Metheny and Mays were hoping to capture. They speak of an America on the lips of everyone who struggles to remain free.

  • MAGIC!!!

  • what a great loss ledfords passing was.

  • You nailed it!! Freedom gone wild and out of control!

Liberals seem to forget that Liberalism only works in remote, small populated cities like in rural Montana etc.. but when you get more than a few people living closely together like most cities across AMERICA then you HAVE to have rules and guidelines to sustain law and order. Thugs and Liberals have to be responsible and accountable citizens. You Libs can't just do what u want when u want when it efx others...That is NOT America!

  • and yet it is the Republicans using 200 billion taxpayers dollars to bail out Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Rewarding stupidity is a Republican trait... you're doing a helluva job Brownie ! Enjoy your 9.7 trillion dollar debt

  • You are always FREE to leave.
