  • Me encanta el blues

i like the blues john lee hooker a legend

  • anybody here know what type of acoustic guitar sounds the best with blues like this?

  • YAH bless you for uploading this video.

John Lee Hooker: Simplicity is Beautiful.

  • x me è il max del blus ascoltare John Lee Hooker,è stato grande fino alla fine della sua vita e rimarrà tale.

  • If you like delta blues, check out Rat Stomp :)

    youtube.com/user/ratstompmusic

  • Yesterday my friend asked me if I heard the new Linkin Park album. I said "No, of course not. I don't listen to that crap. Have you heard of John Lee Hooker?" My friend said no. He's no longer my friend.

  • @fsffsa5325324 I would've done the same thing!! who the hell is linkin park anyway???

  • @hiddentreasure73 Apparently, they are "artists". Bullsh!t in my opinion.

  • @fsffsa5325324 i like it. linkin park has always irritated me. to couple that dislke with a dismissal of a friend cuz he's never heard of john lee.that's harsh. but i like it.

  • 3:33 - Robert Cray

  • dude could just answer thoes questions with his guitar....

  • あのサングラスかっちょいいーー!ほしいです。

  • A lot of this kind of music came out of the days of chain gangs.and hard times.most farm work in those days would sang songs to help them work.if my histories right.

  • De puta madre, todo lo que hace el tio este es de puta madre

  • I understand that everyone is entitled to their choices in music, however, before style and talent were noticed, this man had it (as did other old blues artists). He plays this guitar like it is his toy and he's talking to it. For those who prefer simple, raw, genuine talent - here it is. No fanfare, no hype. All genuine musicians give credit to these old guys. I'm just not into c ostumes, fireworks, technical or voice enhancements - not needed with these guys.

  • Why does everyone need to compare every shit to Justin Bieber (or "Beiber" as people wrongfully call him). I just don’t get it.

  • Thanks for sharing this legend Tony! :) Pamela

  • who is he talking about at 3:33 he says "( blank ) is so real" ????

  • @eseaton99 I believe that the blues performer he mentions is Robert Cray.

    Tony

  • @eseaton99 I second that. I heard Robert Cray. Only just... should have bloody opened his mouth when he spoke that John..!!

  • @eseaton99 Yes, I believe he was speaking of Robert Cray -- love him too!

  • What age was John here?

  • @DaimondInTheRough Mr Hooker was born in 1917 and this interview was recorded in 1996.

    Tony

  • @Mouldytone

wow he looked pretty good for an old cat.. i didnt even realize it.

  • He´s one of the voices I like to listen even when just talking. Something I can´t describe, but it´s like a voice from a different time - this deep compelling growl of his. He´s the perfect image of a bluesman.

  • He's got more feeling in a couple of phrases from his voice than a thousand pop singers even if they tried for a couple of thousand years.....

  • amazing music.

  • notice something else great music and fast fingers (and no guitar pick), great voice, great Blues Man, love his music!!!!

  • I typed "JLH Interview" on youtube and got "Jennifer Love Hewitt Interview"...what's this world coming to? Heaven help us...

  • God can forgive these little 4 uncultivated

  • miss you john lee

  • My first guitar hero that inspired me to try myself. Mr Hooker is the "Blues soul" personized!

  • Ahhhh just recognized it now ... his fingers are faster than a fly's wings....

  • those four people that voted thumbs down don't know anything about real music. John Lee is the man.

  • Thank you john lee

  • Thanks for your thumbs up. It just has to reach the emotion and be simple. I don't need all this freaking fanfare to enjoy an emotion in music. I like to keep in touch with what's real. I would work on a chain gang just to get that raw spirit. They did it so well.

  • I don't know why, perhaps because they haven't suffered as much, but white people just can't make music like this

  • @toby099 fuck off what bout the doors, peter green

  • the voice alone gives me the shivers

  • KING OF PIMPS HES ON HEAVEN RIDING HIS MOTHERFUCKIN CADILLAC WHIT 10 BITCHES ON THE BACK SIT

  • It always makes me sad that people listen to great music, but all they do is bitch about other musicians/singers/entertainers or people that have a different taste in the comments section.

Thanks for uploading this. Was a pleasure for my ears.

music was great back then, and it still is today, you just have to search for the right music for you and support it.

  • genial tema, lleno de mucha profundidad

  • a true legend

  • Where on earth can I get my hands on a pair of those glasses?

  • You got that right late night creep. I don't even know why we would acknowledge the 4 people who don't like this. You have to feel sorry for morons don't you?

  • everybody here talks about how blues should be listened by everyone. let the musically ignorant have their justin beiber and miley cyrus. the blues is too precious to be shared to the masses. let those souls who desire come to the blues......

  • You can sing his notes, play the notes, but no way you can have such a feeling.

  • Happy Song

    I want to get back

    back to my happy song

    Back to my happy days

been singing the blues too long

Oh Lord where is my happy song

    M.S. Morrison

  • lol "if they dont know bout the blues then i dont wanna talk to them" J.L.H. lmao great words

  • I don't want to read YouTube comments anymore while I listen/watch these masterpieces. Every other comment says something about 'Justin Bieber' or 'Miley Cirus', and even if they rip them off, it's a disgrace to even mention these names while I listen, for example the blues king John Lee (I feel bad enough that I had to mention them). If you got something to say, praise the man/woman/band or tell a story that involves this music. I hate these fucking thumb whores..

  • @Juustokauppias So you do the same?

  • Thanks for :)

  • I disagree with the three beiber fans that disliked the video:P

  • @rekosen

    what's a 'bieber'?

  • HOOOO ouiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii !!!!

Un Grand, un TRES Grand, Merci merci . TRés beau cadeau d'....

    Kisses and smile

    Nathalie

  • I pray that when I go, I get to see John Lee one more time, unless I go to heaven. Then I could see him play all the time. I see Justin Beiber has 3 fans here.

  • I want his voice

  • man this guys got some serious swag

  • The Godfather of blues ! Musical sincerity with no make up.

  • The Godfather of blues ! Musical sincerity with no make up.

  • This man is my idol. He is the epitome of a badass.

  • IF YOU THINK YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MAN REPRESENTS & WHO HE IS THEN YOU MIGHT KNOW MUSIC .. EVERYONE ELSE ARE JUST FOOLS IF THEY THINK THEY WOULD EVEN HAVE SO-CALLED MUSIC IF NOT FOR THIS MAN.. HE IS THE ONLY KING !!!!!!! AND NEVER HAS GOTTIN THE RESPECT DUE HELL WORKED HIS WHOLE LIFE AND STOLEN FROM BY MANY PEOPLE IT MAKES ME SICK!!!!!

  • i love this music

  • If I play like this U may say I'm crap... But he's famous...

  • Mace Windu! No, I mean that guy should play John Lee in a movie. I pay to see that.

  • god damn it..he gave me the blues

  • This man music is ART . ART is James Brown music, Ray Charles music, BB King music and a lot of others.

All the rest -jazzyjane58 - has write about here under as, Spears or Gaga or what ever their music is - bull shit - is headake -...

World should remember you and your music John, even after 1000 years

  • John Lee Hooker playing one not is more music than Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, etc togheter

  • esto si es blues,yeahh!!!

  • I get incensed at these diva trips that spin doctors do on these no-talent types so I have to write to get rid of my frustrations. I don't need to see clown-type antics and body parts to enjoy true, soulful music that appeals to my mood and phsyche. Glad you appreciated my rant - ,- i like real people with real talent - not the bubble-gum, plastic, egotistical phonies. Too many around today. How much life can you have at l6?

  • People who don't understand this man and his music got no soul. You think Miley Cyrus, Britanny Spears, Justin could be this humble and "dressed" and do this music? I hardly think so. He had no big stage show, no music or voice enhancements, his face wasn't plastered on mags every week and, WOW, look what he could do - Music pales today compared to what these old blues men know - they sing from the heart, soul and experience. Justin Beiber is ging to write about his life at 16 - HA

  • @jazzyjane58 Couldn`t agree more. Thanks for taking the time to comment on the clip.

    Tony

  • @jazzyjane58 that's why in twenty years nobody knows who Justin Bieber was, while mr. Hooker is a legend for eternity. Those old blues men are all immortal.

  • @jazzyjane58 those names dont even deserve to be writen in a comment of a video of this master ! hehe /agreeeeee

  • @jazzyjane58 It's funny being a teen now a days, people ask me about crazed shows, new clothes, and of course music. It hurts when The say " Did you listen to the new Lil wayne album?" and call that masterful and that they have lived. If I was to say a thing about Muddy, B.B, or even JL Hooker.. it would be latin to them.

  • @crappsalot - it seems like you do listen to these old blues men - good for you because that where it all started. There are "few" talented people around today but the hype doesn't match the talent for sure. It's all smoke and mirrors today. Be your own person and like who you like. I like the simple stuff - not a sex and fire-works display while I'm listening to music. You sound very mature for your age - not many like you around either - hats off to you.

  • @jazzyjane58 trust me there is... the shittier new releases get, the more kids are realising there's something much better out there

  • @jazzyjane58 I think the next time that kid does his hair he should turn around in the wind tunnel!

  • @jazzyjane58 Fucking true man..!!!!

  • @jazzyjane58 Robert Johnson was only 27 when he died, and he had a pretty impressive body of work; I think he was performing regularly by 19. A young person is capable of offering valuable insights into their own lives and those of others. Don't you think it's a little narrow-minded to exclude someone's ideas based on their age?

  • @shantaramification Not really - I'm sure Robert Johnson's life was different than people's lives of 27 today. He grew up in much harder times than teenagers or 20 something people do today. No comparison. I can talk from experience.

  • @jazzyjane58 We're all built differently and to say anyone that doesn't appreciate the blues doesn't have a soul is nonsense. People find soul in various types of music. It's like saying a garden should only have red flowers in it and anyone that doesn't agree with you is nuts! It's generalizing don't you think? Not trying to start an argument. Just saying we all are drawn to the type of music that moves our own soul. :) Thanks for posting this Mould. I'd never heard him in an interview.

  • @jazzyjane58 fuckin right

  • @jazzyjane58 true.... u r 100 % right.

  • @jazzyjane58 Good music has the ability to captivate everyone. I'm a metal fan and Iove John Lee Hooker and his music and I also love Sinatra's style too.

  • @jazzyjane58

There should be a way to give this >9000 thumbs up

  • @jazzyjane58Great John Lee Hooker even performed with Zucchero. He never talked in a bad way about different kinds of music.Neither about RAP,nor Classic Music.WHO ARE YOU,TO JUDGE ABOUT ALL DIFFERENT KINDS OF MUSIC?LEONARDO DA VINCI;OR PICASSO WERE NOT THE ONLY GREAT PAINTERS IN THE WORLD.JOHN LEE HOOKER KNEW,THAT ART IS NOT A ONE-WAY-LANE.EVERY KIND OF MUSIC CAN MAKE PEOPLE FEEL GOOD.ART IS FREE,MUSIC is FREE

  • @jazzyjane58 Who the hell cares abouth this shit? WHO CARES? We just love the blues, I don't give a damn bout spears & co. why do you care bout theese guys or even mention them? What for people? Come on! Start listening to the blues and stop judging what is good or bad, right or wrong. A bluesman is not a judge. Let everybody listen to what they like to, it doesn't make a lion look like a cat, for those who have eyes.

  • @jazzyjane58 i hear ya. but music like this is alive & well. the real shit too. as for miley & bieber they are just what is popular now. they're just giving it a shot too. popular music is mainly about marketing so it cant really be compared to this. i aint dissin u man, but i love this shit, i love gaga bieber etc. & i love extreme music (electronic & metal). just be open to it. dont hate on other genres friend. music is music. peace.

  • jlh was not blind! he was known as the king of boogie . he is also one of the best of the old school blues. he is missed.

  • Robert Cray must have been totally elated when this man brought up his name !

  • those 3 people must b drunk. while listening to this....

they must've thot the dislike button is the like button...=D

  • thank god he loss hes sight and not that huge voice

  • Maestro.

  • Its rock me to, blues from the hart

  • :o, I haven't heard this since i used to live at my moms, she used to always play some JLH everyday.

I gotta start hunting down his CD's.

  • This is an example of what music used to bring to people. John Lee Hooker wasn't just a musician. He lived what he wrote and you can tell just by looking at his eyes/face. He wrote the blues bc life is hard and his music reflected this. I just wish these fake artist today could write with as much heart as John Lee Hooker.

  • @rolltide111 I'd agree with you more so if you could actually see his eyes XD

  • @Sullzy, Have you never seen him w/o sunglasses.

  • @rolltide111 yeah it was a joke dude

  • Great video, Thumbs up

Mouldytone: do you know if there's any way to get the tabs for this song?

  • Johnny Lee made so many amazing songs that others learned from! Thanks for the post!

  • God? is that you?

  • he lost his sigth but never lost his mojo

  • Super video!

  • he´s the man

  • JLH, bb king, robert johnson in that order of greatness in the blues

  • fuck, now that's how it's done!

  • not as good as robert johnson but still nice

  • real blues

  • Big Will & the bluesmen greats a other blues goost

  • finally a good interviewer..

  • John Lee Hooker was a fucking blues MASTER.

  • john lee and his guitar on a first name basis

  • this guy is fucking awesome, john lee you can hook me anytime

  • un geant!

  • UNBELIVABLE

  • I don't understand how any true fans of music can dislike this in any way, it's incredible, not my style stuff, but it's just SO powerfull, every strained note is pure heart. Love it

  • true blues must be so. a lonely feeling, but the rythm keeps on rolling and rolling. and this makes this kind of music so great. KEEPING ON KEEPING ON. no better words i know for living.

  • nice comment yours, but actually blues is also scaled and sad any guitarist can call it "newbie" or whatever for beginners.

But theres something which blues is the only one... The guitarist can play blues happy or sad theres no concepts, but in any other style you need especial feelings... So I can say blues is the best style because wont make the musician annoyed or whatever during professional times or even home!

  • one word... legend

  • cool :D

  • @YuzoMusic: No self-respecting jazz guitarrist skips the usage of some blue notes in his/her music. How do you explain that many great jazz guitar players such Scoflied, Pat Martino or Kenny Burrell have even full blues songs in their recordings? (if , as you assume blues has been almost irrelevant for modern music...)

  • blues is the meaning of the modern music

  • Music is a state of mind. Banging on logs with apples can be music... it could be blues music.

  • Absolutely nothing dumb Elissa(ss)..

That's precisely the point I was making, but maybe English is not your forte either I guess

  • Thanks musicplayful, I needed that. Punctuation is, tho.

  • Hey musicplayfula hole-----what in the f--k do you think a university professer has to do with where the blues come from. Keep on posting so we can all see how out of it u really are. Moron--no--more off than on.

  • @yuzomusic: Lokking at your spelling I doubt you spent much time with any university professor, or maybe with the one that told you blues originates from hillbilly music?

    @Mangaspiked: +1 brother

  • This video is nonsense. Blues originates from hillbilly music, which is derived from folk music. Rock is a merging of hillbilly and blues 12 bar. Jazz is a blend of numerous music forms from around the world, particulary French classical as pioneered by Jelly Roll. Rap is derived from caribbean music. There is not a single thing about blues note in it. Pop isn't even a form of music, and to say such a thing is asinine. A very segregated, and arrogant personality. I'm surprised.

  • Wrong. Proto-country music and country blues were simply very similar. Most of the truly unique aspects of the blues (the blue note, swing, call and response, etc) originated in Africa or among African slaves in America. Rock n roll was the "merging" (merger) of country rhythm with blues' harmonic structure. While jazz is now a stand-alone genre, it is PRIMARILY the blues which jazz grew out of (Creole, ragtime and gospel also notable).

  • Also, Hooker was a particularly grounded man, much adored in the blues and rock communities. Bare in mind the social climate this man grew up in. Jazz structure, even after the leaps made by Miles Davis, always had a strong foundation in blues harmonically, melodically and rhythmically. Re. your comment on the blues note, either you don't understand what the blues note is, or you haven't listened to much high quality jazz!

  • "blues is the only music for me, everything come from the blues thats the roots. The roots of all music: rock and roll, jazz, pop, rap, everything. This is the roots of everything"

    well said

  • @mangaspiked. except it is not true, and there is not a musicoligist or university proffesor who would teach that.

  • that could be true man, but i don't feel like going to a musicologist or professor to tell me what i should listen to. At least TO ME, blues is essential to all guitar players; because there is so much feeling and emotion on the music. TO ME no other music has that

  • @mangaspiked I think you have misinterpreted my comment.

  • oh man what a voice, a proper blues man

  • one of the most unrecognized blues artists ever, i thank my ex for the introduction to him, he is one of a kind better than bb if you ask me!!!

  • the best

  • damn right he is a badass mofo

  • WOW!

    i like pickle juice!

  • what a sound mmmm i pray to you Johny lee :] champion sounds!!!

  • this guy is a fucking badass.

  • really fat man

  • fuckin badass motha fucka

  • this is one badass motherfucker.

  • badass mofo

  • I love this man

  • so damn calm, gotta love it.

  • this man playing slow shows more talent than all those guitar techs who playing fast is a sign of talent

  • @FranciscoBonito precisely my point... you look at the 'best guitarist' listings and its just a bunch of unimaginative rockers who can't even be compared to the complex rhythm of booker white, john lee or fred mcdowel

  • i love this one, the grand old master of the blues....really

  • saweet

  • this guy rocks!

  • bog i tačka

  • maan, what a pimp.

    anyway sick blues.
