In that variation with ...f5, there's no need for Bg5. Nxf5 looks absolutely crushing, unless I'm missing something.

Are doubled pawns that clear the files for rooks good things? Even though it is doubled, it really allows a lot of new power and range of attack. Thumbs up if you agree its worth it? Please don't say, "it all depends on the situation", of course it does, but just in general please answer. This comment is relevant to the game due to the Anand's Game.

@NEOLIVZ the problem is doubled pawns is every time you move the front one, you're leaving an isolated pawn. I see them as a disadvantage for this reason, because they rely on others to protect them when they need to protecting each other.

@bnjmnNC That is true, but doubled pawns can be a temporary, or perhaps even permanent, advantage. I highly suggest Jeremy Silman's book "Reassess your Chess: How to Master Chess Imbalances." Double pawns can actually be very effective at controlling key squares and limiting the play of knights -- especially along the F and C files. They also can be a necessary step in getting a powerful open diagonal for your rooks.

@NEOLIVZ The problem with doubled pawns is both once you advance the forward one you have two isolated pawns. The pawns need to be protecting each other. This is why I think doubled pawns are a long term defect to the pawn structure. Of course not in EVERY case, but most of the time

@NEOLIVZ Yeap...pretty much. Unless he's talking about positional chess. Nxf5 at 1 :49 takes advantage of the pin...and yes it wins material. Unless...of course there is a positional disadvantage in doing so ;)
