For me FF13 have the best story from ff8 onwards that even beat FF10. The battle system is truely an awesome improvement. Most importantly, this game fits perfectly to this new and modern era that we are in now, that's why the previous FF7-10 feels like a great classic.

I tryed hard to like this game, but it just dint work out. This song is like the only thing i like about it. Only if the game would of been more like this and less like idk boring. Hopefully they make up for this on FF13 Versus. That game looks like it could be way funner and more intresting.
Hmm wierd, after reading all these comment ragarding FF12 actually beeing good, i may give it a try for the 3rd time, hope i just dont quite half way like always just because every char is the same ( yes i usually have almost maxed LP by reaching 50-70% of the game story wise).
Or i should just try to farm less and rush everything, maybe LP wont be maxed out by then.
I feel like if this made it onto the list, then there should be SOMETHING from FFXII. Even though it is my favorite Final Fantasy, I understand the soundtrack isn't great, but c'mon! Like White Room or Jahara, Land of the Garif or even Sochen Cave Palace.
@Kupo923 It all fit with the game, but when listening to it alone, I was only impressed by maybe a third or half of it, as opposed to idk, Kingdom Hearts II, where almost every song is awesome sauce.
@Finnius14 I'd have to disagree (not about KH2 though, Yoko Shimomura is fantastic); FF12's ost was one orchestrated masterpiece after another. Maybe that's the thing -- instead of being mostly looped tracks like most of FF osts, it was focused on the composition, not how memorable it was in-game, and outside of the game. I myself love classical music, so I'm used to it. Maybe that's why we disagree on this.
@Kupo923 Let's agree that there should definitely be more songs from that game on this list than there are, especially considering there are none (at least from what I've seen, which is like, half.) It's better than the XIII soundtrack too.
@Finnius14 FF VI, IX, and XII were definitely my favs. :D
And lmao, too true. But I still liked them. I'm not very picky with video games, apparently LOL I have a girlcrush on Penelo anyway, so it's all good hahah
Game play: Too unbalanced! At once, you thought you were good, but then you recognize that you have to waste so many hours training to progress with the story. That makes you lose the love for the game.
@Maser50007 Seriously dude? It's like you've only played games that walk you through everything... You are probably one of the people who constantly has a guide open when they play. You need those areas of leveling so that you are not just sitting there being read a tale. (if you fight every enemy along the way you will be set in "usual" games. "unusual" ones being any Shin Megami Tensei) If all you wanted was the story, go pick up one of the new FPS's or just watch a fricken movie...
@Majickmanbob Trust me, I hate First Person Shooters with all my heart! I respect your opinion but this is my thought, I think that the game should have balanced that, between being linear and giving the player freedom to do whatever they want (as in other of the FF series, that you had the choice between exploring towns and other places or going with the story).
@Maser50007 I agree completely with what you say but the unbalanced gameplay in your first comment. I felt that they gave enough chances for CP so you would be the proper level.DidYouUprageWeapons? The gameplay is linear. Period. End of sentence. Everyone knows that. (I'm sorry for sounding like a bish. I didn't mean to be that harsh). Maybe you didn't mean "unbalanced" InTheWayYouSaidIt?I guess killing every guy in sight takes a long time but in RPG's, you have to expect some areas of grinding.
I hate that people bash FF XIII. It WAS good in it's own way, maybe not as awesome as the originals, but a fine game nonetheless. And this song kicks righteous ass!
@RedMageWolfe Fine? it was the worst marathon i have ever player...and only let to use one character was awful. If you at least had control of all the characters the linear dungeons wont be a problem (see eternal sonata, taht was a good game , was linear but good)
@TheVixer9000 The battle system was the best part of the game though! It let you feel like you were giving orders, and just streamlined the battles while still making you think. By the end of the game it really opened up... maybe a little late, but it was still cool. Also, I didn't like Eternal Sonata... it had cool music, but it just wasn't my thing...
@RedMageWolfe Actually it wast that great, the allies were just running on circles and rarely help, and too bad about ES, i loved that game , but FF13 as soon as i finished it i went to trade it for another game, it was just not good, this theme could be the only good thing i found in that game.
@TheVixer9000 Just because you couldn't control them doesn't mean that they weren't helpful! For the later battles your party members worked together so well!
But to each their own I guess. I can see how not everyone would like FFXII. Maybe I'll give ES another shot one day, I never did finish it after all.
@RedMageWolfe The reason everyone hated FFXIII, the true fans of SE anyway, was because they've taken a step backwards. They've taken out the things that made Final Fantasy good, like freedom, good puzzles, and storyline. They need to go back to their roots, who cares if it takes longer to make? I'd rather wait 5 years for an old-school style Final Fantasy with shoddy graphics than wait 1 year for a linear piece of shit game with horrible characters and majorly linear design. That's why.
@Dendocrawr At it's basic level, the plot and character developement were on par (or better than) with some of the older games. Look at FF 4, and 7. They had a few terrible characters, but a great plotline, just like XIII. As for 'linear design', it made sense within the plot to have the party always moving forward and not stopping to do inane sidequests By the way, I'm not a "True fan" of Square Enix. Most of the games they make today are trash compared to the days when they were just Square.
@RedMageWolfe Who was a bad character in 7? I don't exactly recall one off the bat. As with 4, Final Fantasy has come a long way since then. XIII had a terrible plotline compared to the previous games. I didn't mind FFX being linear and there are barely any "side-quests" in Final Fantasy, that is optional anyway. When I say a true fan of SE, I mean a true fan of Square. But SE weren't all that bad, in fact I was happy that they teamed up originally. They did a good job of FFX, but I agree.
@Dendocrawr I was talking about Cloud in particular from FF7, I just hate broody protagonists like that. I agree with you about FFX (that was a damn fine game.), and I can respect your opinion on 13. It's not for everbody, but they tried something new with the series and I enjoyed it. Can I just ask, what in particular about the story didn't you like?
@RedMageWolfe I can respect your opinion also, I just really tried to get into it but I couldn't. Just... They story was not engaging. Vestige? Pulse l'cie, fal'cie? Names were confusing, didn't really make sense as to why Pulse hated Cocoon. Vanille was the most annoying character ever, as was hope. Lightning was the only Final Fantasy like character I saw.It was just overall, pretty disappointing. But I loved the OST. Especially Gapra Whitewood.
@RedMageWolfe I agree. Taken on it's own merits, it's a quality game, though a flawed one (most games are). It just sucks compared to most every other FF. If nothing else, XIII's a step up from XII, at least.
The game has everything going for it. Well, except for the poorly written dialogues and the anime cliches. SE should have noticed by now that its core fanbase has grown up and isn't impress so easily by shy kids saving the world and searching for love in the middle of a war.
@HellBreak777 I did. To tell you the truth, I wasn't impressed. It looks no different than your generic anime show featuring teenagers with nice haircuts doing melodramatic poses now and then to show "emotions". To put it bluntly: Japan can't write a JRPG storyline that is worth a damn anymore. Sure, Bioware isn't perfect but at least they don't treat the gamer like an illiterate. Back then, Square could only rely on its writing skills to make magic. Just look at FF6-7, Chrono Trigger...
I like the battle music for FF13, but I've been getting these games based on their battle systems. That is why I don't like/don't want to play FF12 and FF13.
13 was way too overproduced and the plot was driven by so much melodrama that it made my stomach turn. After a while it just felt like a mess being held up by an overbearing soundtrack. It had some flashes of glory that reminded me of what Final Fantasy games used to feel like, but other than that it was just a mess in a shiny box. Final Fantasies 4 thru 9 blow everything else out of the water, plain and simple.
@eishikibahamut What do you mean by quality? By a technical standpoint, FF12 & FF13 had amazing detail to art design, animation, spot on sound effects and lush musical scores. Stroy, characters and battle system are all in the eye of the beholder but I wouldn't say the last couple of FF's where cheap, knock-offs. Also, Sakaguchi stopped directing at FFV and only produced till X, Amano was replaced by Nomura by VII and can you really say Hamauzu isn't a wonderful composer? Lastly, isn't every en
I can honestly say that I don't like his music. I have friends who can compose better than him, but that's also based on opinion so it doesn't count.
I guess I can agree that the game has a lot of polys if that's what you mean by technical standpoint. It didn't really do much when it came to innovation of any kind really.
FF 1 to 9 are all good or great in their own way but I lost interest with 10 and beyond. I just don't like the androgynous, avante-garde looking characters and the pop-culture feel. I like trolls, dragons and black mages.
I will always think of FF9 as the final final fantasy and I actually liked FFX. Squares not the same company it was back then and I mean that quite literally they lost a lot of people when they filed for bankruptcy and I think the quality of their games have diminished because of that. Without Nobuo, Amano, or Sakaguchi you can hardly consider the games a true final fantasy. With XIII they didn't even have "Prelude" The series theme song.
@eishikibahamut I agree. IX was a worthy end to the classic series. Maybe it's not for me to say but I feel that SquareEnix are just abusing the FF franchise name for cheap profit with the new games these days. At least they are considerate enough to give us updated rereleases of the classics as well as downloadable versions of the original Playstation entries. That's all I need so I shouldn't complain too much.
@eishikibahamut Technically they had it, but without Nobuo's permission they didn't have full rights to it. The theme that plays in the very opening credits? That's the new prelude til they work out them rights.
@HamsterCreature Um Final Fantasy X was great, and the male characters have been androgynous since FF7 lol. I just dislike the lack of good characters and lackluster plots of the newer FF games...
@ Jadasan Interesting that some love FF X while other seem to hate it. For me it was what made me start to lose interest in the series. I don't think we mean the same thing with androgynous. Take the original Cloud, or Squall, for example in comparison with Crisis Core Cloud and PS2 FF characters. The first two have sharp features and a masculine sort of beauty, while the Crisis Core Cloud and later FF characters have a pugnosed androgynous look with soft features and plush lips.
@HamsterCreature Imho, there haven't been any real manly men in FF since FFVI. Whether it be their character design or personality, but that has nothing to do with me liking/disliking a FF game. It's the story, plot, and characters that make the game, well for me to say the least...
@Jadasan I agree, story is most important but the male characters from X and onwards starting to look like Harajuku boys on estrogen supplements is adding insult to injury, so I have a hangup with it because those characters become the visual manifestation of all things I dislike with the recent games. Don't mean to insult any fans, just my opinion.
@HamsterCreature lol true, but it definitely didn't start with X I heard from somewhere that Squall's design was based off of that pop star guy gackt or something...so harajuku boys have been in FF way before X. Spiky hair and emo-ness became a must for a male FF lead at least by FFVII or VIII.
@DocteurMelheck We're talking about the main protagonists of FF games and the changes in their character designs over the years. I have no problem with the designs, but whoever said that the characters became androgynous at the start of FFX is wrong imho.
@HamsterCreature totally. ff1 is epic, ff2 ok (btw i just got into ff this is what i think of the games) ff3 awesome ff4 awesome ff5 nice ff6 awesome ff7 nice (ff8 is in my oppinion where they where just tipping off the cliff by an inch) ff8 ok, but... ff9 the characters look weird ff10 sorta too mutch drama ff11 wtheck ff12 im outta here.
so i only am interested in ff 1-7 and 8&9 sorta after that ff just whent goth :(
How could you not like FF10? It was very similar to 7 in terms of character development, as well the way the plot was put together. There were a lot of secrets that weren't divulged until later, and had huge repercussions in the plot.
And as for the "androgynous" characters... I'd just like to point out Cecil, Cloud, Squall, and a lot of other male FF characters- most look like that. I will give you that in FF12, it is like you said, but I don't think you gave X a decent try.
This composer is freaking great. I remember "The Decisive Battle" from FFX and was really blown away, although it didn't seem to be appropriate for a final "boss".
This game is so incredibly linear, but it's kind of necessary with the amount of detail that they put into... everything. Especially the environments. If they put the same amount of detail into a more open-ended environment, the game would never be released.
I didn't get to finish it, but I did enjoy the parts I got to play... especially because of this music~
@EXEGUNSO People are just never satisfied. I think XIII is WAY better than X-2 was and I think XIII-2 will be better than X-2 as well. Battle system in X-2 was good but that story was just BAD.
I beat this game about a month and a half ago and here's my mini review:
Pros: Outstanding combat system, one of the best I've seen in any rpg to date, a decent story, and kickass soundtrack. (Seriously dude, this track has nothing on some of the others)
Cons: Little interaction with NPCs, Sidequests are just kinda thrown in there, and Linearity may be a turnoff to some, but all these things are appropriate for the narrative.
All in all, 8/10 from me. Definately worth a play.
I really didn't like this game. It seemed like they didn't handle the console transition well with linear play, bad fight system, bad characters and lackluster plot. The music was alright though!
Eh, it's alright. Not a bad piece of music, but it's painfully obvious that it's trying too hard to be 'epic'. Tone it down, make it more understated, and you're there - in the meantime, this isn't to my taste, but I can see why others like it. Cheers for the upload Supra.
When I watched my brother and a friend of his playing this on his friend's PS3 and when I heard this battle theme I thought ¨Damn this sounds good¨, but anyways good piece of music right here
Wow im surprised so many people liked my comment makes me glad others think alike. I noticed some 12 talk going on so I'll put my opinion on it. 12 itself is a decent time and I could add it to my favorites but something about the overall experience just didnt click. The story was decent but I got lost in sidesquests so much I forgot what the hell was goin on. Decent game for sure just too much political tone in the game and crazy overpowered character development made it way to easy.
@Arc13 I play MMO's either so 11 and 14 don't interest me either. I have a hard time rating things, the best I can say is X is my fav. It was the first RPG I played so I have a strong nostalgic feeling for it.
It's definitely fun being able to take down a Long Gui, I'd like to see someone just keep pressing X to beat one of those :3
@orwell9788 Haha. Taking down a Long Gui is hard work indeed. You can't even press X over and over to take down Adamantoises unless you have good Paradigms and know how to use summons.
@Moccamonster Continued: just don't call me names for enjoying 12 and 13. I love them for how different they experiment with the FF formula instead stale and stale, repackaged sequel like Guitar Hero or CoD. I respect if you don't like XIII just don't make a straw man of people who do enjoy it like they're blithering idiots.
@moccamonster Strange enough not every person who liked XIII (or XII for that matter) jerks off to everything SE puts out, crazy I know. One problem might be the ridiculous podium we put certain FF's on like VII or VI, each one having their own problems. 12 is completely non-linear and it's hated while 13 is the opposite and it's hated. I guess this the flaw with FF series, each one is so different that each fan of one entry hates other ones for changing what they love. I can understand that, j
@TheDamianWatt I admit, it takes much longer to get tl Gran Pulse than Midgar; XIII could've definitely been paced better cause once you get to Gran Pulse it's no story till the end so it's a jarring difference.
The point I'd make is that I played VII for the characters, story and battle system; those where the main things caring it and XIII wanted more concentration on the characters. Maybe on XIII-2 they can pace it better like VII =-)
@orwell9788 It might be hard to pick up on the first 3 after experiencing the later improved entries, 11 and 14 are the only ones I haven't touched(I don't play online games). I'd have to rate them VI, VII, IX, X, IV, XIII, I, V, III, VIII, II, XII. That's just me personally. I actually quite enjoyed XIII. From the technical standpoints for fans it isn't very good. But what most people never mention is if the game was FUN or not. I found it fun and essentially, is that not what games are for?
I am sorry but I have to disagree. The game have a great potential to be fun... but well, by rushing on the circle button during 20 hours without using your brain makes you arrive to the part it begins to get interesting... the story is not bad (I mean, everybody can appreciate it or not, but at least every character has a story), the music is good, the graphics are epic... but ... FUN? hell not
@shiloushilou So you really did not enjoy the battle system? Because you seem to be relating to the linear part again, and essentially if that's the only part you can relate to, every game is unfun since every game has you pushing forward on the control stick for long periods of time. Afterall, you're more likely to be doing a lot more battling than running when you give the game a chance. If you avoid every fight, of course you won't have any fun.
No, I was mentioning the battle system too. I do agree it is fun in the end of the game. But strategy is totally absent in more than half the game... you just have to press the same button without thinking and you can win cause the 2 other characters do everything without any problem. Every magic cause roughly the same damages and so on... I really thing they should have make a combination with a system like the one in secret of mana for exemple to give the player more possibilities
@shiloushilou Alright, that I can believe. When they made this game they did flat out say they were going for a more mainstream approach. Typically side effects can include linearity of a shooter, easiness, etc.
Well, you are right talking about the difficulty but at least there was some in saving magic points for bosses battle or other thing like that. Here there is not need of doing anything. You are automatically healed after battle, you can cast spells as much as you want, job like defender and jammer have absolutely no interest til the end of the game (even if I agree jammer spells are never interesting in any JRPG) and so on.
For me FF13 have the best story from ff8 onwards that even beat FF10. The battle system is truely an awesome improvement. Most importantly, this game fits perfectly to this new and modern era that we are in now, that's why the previous FF7-10 feels like a great classic.

Kupo923 6 months ago
@Kupo923 It all fit with the game, but when listening to it alone, I was only impressed by maybe a third or half of it, as opposed to idk, Kingdom Hearts II, where almost every song is awesome sauce.
Finnius14 6 months ago
@Finnius14 I'd have to disagree (not about KH2 though, Yoko Shimomura is fantastic); FF12's ost was one orchestrated masterpiece after another. Maybe that's the thing -- instead of being mostly looped tracks like most of FF osts, it was focused on the composition, not how memorable it was in-game, and outside of the game. I myself love classical music, so I'm used to it. Maybe that's why we disagree on this.
Kupo923 6 months ago
@Kupo923 Let's agree that there should definitely be more songs from that game on this list than there are, especially considering there are none (at least from what I've seen, which is like, half.) It's better than the XIII soundtrack too.
Finnius14 6 months ago
@Finnius14 Indeed. Though it doesn't seem like SupraDarky has played XII. :(
Kupo923 6 months ago
@Kupo923 XII is the best FF! Hear that Supradarky?
Oh, except Vaan and Penelo really need more of a reason to help conquer an entire empire than to be along for the ride.
Finnius14 6 months ago
@Finnius14 FF VI, IX, and XII were definitely my favs. :D
And lmao, too true. But I still liked them. I'm not very picky with video games, apparently LOL I have a girlcrush on Penelo anyway, so it's all good hahah

Soundtrack: Impeccable
Battle System: Mind boggling

Majickmanbob 6 months ago
@Majickmanbob Trust me, I hate First Person Shooters with all my heart! I respect your opinion but this is my thought, I think that the game should have balanced that, between being linear and giving the player freedom to do whatever they want (as in other of the FF series, that you had the choice between exploring towns and other places or going with the story).
Maser50007 6 months ago
@Maser50007 I agree completely with what you say but the unbalanced gameplay in your first comment. I felt that they gave enough chances for CP so you would be the proper level.DidYouUprageWeapons? The gameplay is linear. Period. End of sentence. Everyone knows that. (I'm sorry for sounding like a bish. I didn't mean to be that harsh). Maybe you didn't mean "unbalanced" InTheWayYouSaidIt?I guess killing every guy in sight takes a long time but in RPG's, you have to expect some areas of grinding.

@RedMageWolfe Fine? it was the worst marathon i have ever player...and only let to use one character was awful. If you at least had control of all the characters the linear dungeons wont be a problem (see eternal sonata, taht was a good game , was linear but good)
TheVixer9000 5 months ago
@TheVixer9000 The battle system was the best part of the game though! It let you feel like you were giving orders, and just streamlined the battles while still making you think. By the end of the game it really opened up... maybe a little late, but it was still cool. Also, I didn't like Eternal Sonata... it had cool music, but it just wasn't my thing...
RedMageWolfe 5 months ago
@RedMageWolfe Actually it wast that great, the allies were just running on circles and rarely help, and too bad about ES, i loved that game , but FF13 as soon as i finished it i went to trade it for another game, it was just not good, this theme could be the only good thing i found in that game.
TheVixer9000 5 months ago
@TheVixer9000 Just because you couldn't control them doesn't mean that they weren't helpful! For the later battles your party members worked together so well!
But to each their own I guess. I can see how not everyone would like FFXII. Maybe I'll give ES another shot one day, I never did finish it after all.
RedMageWolfe 5 months ago
@RedMageWolfe The reason everyone hated FFXIII, the true fans of SE anyway, was because they've taken a step backwards. They've taken out the things that made Final Fantasy good, like freedom, good puzzles, and storyline. They need to go back to their roots, who cares if it takes longer to make? I'd rather wait 5 years for an old-school style Final Fantasy with shoddy graphics than wait 1 year for a linear piece of shit game with horrible characters and majorly linear design. That's why.
Dendocrawr 2 months ago
@Dendocrawr At it's basic level, the plot and character developement were on par (or better than) with some of the older games. Look at FF 4, and 7. They had a few terrible characters, but a great plotline, just like XIII. As for 'linear design', it made sense within the plot to have the party always moving forward and not stopping to do inane sidequests By the way, I'm not a "True fan" of Square Enix. Most of the games they make today are trash compared to the days when they were just Square.
RedMageWolfe 2 months ago
@RedMageWolfe Who was a bad character in 7? I don't exactly recall one off the bat. As with 4, Final Fantasy has come a long way since then. XIII had a terrible plotline compared to the previous games. I didn't mind FFX being linear and there are barely any "side-quests" in Final Fantasy, that is optional anyway. When I say a true fan of SE, I mean a true fan of Square. But SE weren't all that bad, in fact I was happy that they teamed up originally. They did a good job of FFX, but I agree.
Dendocrawr 2 months ago
@Dendocrawr I was talking about Cloud in particular from FF7, I just hate broody protagonists like that. I agree with you about FFX (that was a damn fine game.), and I can respect your opinion on 13. It's not for everbody, but they tried something new with the series and I enjoyed it. Can I just ask, what in particular about the story didn't you like?
RedMageWolfe 2 months ago

If nothing else, XIII's a step up from XII, at least.
tallwhiteninja 1 month ago
The game has everything going for it. Well, except for the poorly written dialogues and the anime cliches. SE should have noticed by now that its core fanbase has grown up and isn't impress so easily by shy kids saving the world and searching for love in the middle of a war.

HellBreak777 1 month ago
@HellBreak777 I did. To tell you the truth, I wasn't impressed. It looks no different than your generic anime show featuring teenagers with nice haircuts doing melodramatic poses now and then to show "emotions". To put it bluntly: Japan can't write a JRPG storyline that is worth a damn anymore. Sure, Bioware isn't perfect but at least they don't treat the gamer like an illiterate. Back then, Square could only rely on its writing skills to make magic. Just look at FF6-7, Chrono Trigger...

FF 1 to 9 are all good or great in their own way but I lost interest with 10 and beyond. I just don't like the androgynous, avante-garde looking characters and the pop-culture feel. I like trolls, dragons and black mages.
HamsterCreature 9 months ago 52
@HamsterCreature
With XIII they didn't even have "Prelude" The series theme song.
eishikibahamut 9 months ago
@eishikibahamut I agree. IX was a worthy end to the classic series. Maybe it's not for me to say but I feel that SquareEnix are just abusing the FF franchise name for cheap profit with the new games these days. At least they are considerate enough to give us updated rereleases of the classics as well as downloadable versions of the original Playstation entries. That's all I need so I shouldn't complain too much.
HamsterCreature 9 months ago
@eishikibahamut Technically they had it, but without Nobuo's permission they didn't have full rights to it. The theme that plays in the very opening credits? That's the new prelude til they work out them rights.

megaman57 9 months ago
@HamsterCreature Um Final Fantasy X was great, and the male characters have been androgynous since FF7 lol. I just dislike the lack of good characters and lackluster plots of the newer FF games...
Jadasan 8 months ago
@ Jadasan Interesting that some love FF X while other seem to hate it. For me it was what made me start to lose interest in the series. I don't think we mean the same thing with androgynous. Take the original Cloud, or Squall, for example in comparison with Crisis Core Cloud and PS2 FF characters. The first two have sharp features and a masculine sort of beauty, while the Crisis Core Cloud and later FF characters have a pugnosed androgynous look with soft features and plush lips.
HamsterCreature 8 months ago
@HamsterCreature Imho, there haven't been any real manly men in FF since FFVI. Whether it be their character design or personality, but that has nothing to do with me liking/disliking a FF game. It's the story, plot, and characters that make the game, well for me to say the least...
Jadasan 8 months ago
@Jadasan I agree, story is most important but the male characters from X and onwards starting to look like Harajuku boys on estrogen supplements is adding insult to injury, so I have a hangup with it because those characters become the visual manifestation of all things I dislike with the recent games. Don't mean to insult any fans, just my opinion.
HamsterCreature 8 months ago
@HamsterCreature lol true, but it definitely didn't start with X I heard from somewhere that Squall's design was based off of that pop star guy gackt or something...so harajuku boys have been in FF way before X. Spiky hair and emo-ness became a must for a male FF lead at least by FFVII or VIII.
Jadasan 8 months ago
@Jadasan I'm sorry, but that wasn't Squall. It was Genesis from Crisis Core who's design was based of Gackt.

Definately worth a play.

orwell9788 9 months ago
@moccamonster Strange enough not every person who liked XIII (or XII for that matter) jerks off to everything SE puts out, crazy I know. One problem might be the ridiculous podium we put certain FF's on like VII or VI, each one having their own problems. 12 is completely non-linear and it's hated while 13 is the opposite and it's hated. I guess this the flaw with FF series, each one is so different that each fan of one entry hates other ones for changing what they love. I can understand that, j
orwell9788 9 months ago
@TheDamianWatt I admit, it takes much longer to get tl Gran Pulse than Midgar; XIII could've definitely been paced better cause once you get to Gran Pulse it's no story till the end so it's a jarring difference.
The point I'd make is that I played VII for the characters, story and battle system; those where the main things caring it and XIII wanted more concentration on the characters. Maybe on XIII-2 they can pace it better like VII =-)

orwell9788 9 months ago
@orwell9788 It might be hard to pick up on the first 3 after experiencing the later improved entries, 11 and 14 are the only ones I haven't touched(I don't play online games). I'd have to rate them VI, VII, IX, X, IV, XIII, I, V, III, VIII, II, XII. That's just me personally. I actually quite enjoyed XIII. From the technical standpoints for fans it isn't very good. But what most people never mention is if the game was FUN or not. I found it fun and essentially, is that not what games are for?
Arc13 9 months ago
@Arc13
I am sorry but I have to disagree. The game have a great potential to be fun... but well, by rushing on the circle button during 20 hours without using your brain makes you arrive to the part it begins to get interesting... the story is not bad (I mean, everybody can appreciate it or not, but at least every character has a story), the music is good, the graphics are epic... but ... FUN? hell not
shiloushilou 9 months ago
@shiloushilou So you really did not enjoy the battle system? Because you seem to be relating to the linear part again, and essentially if that's the only part you can relate to, every game is unfun since every game has you pushing forward on the control stick for long periods of time. Afterall, you're more likely to be doing a lot more battling than running when you give the game a chance. If you avoid every fight, of course you won't have any fun.
Arc13 9 months ago
@Arc13
No, I was mentioning the battle system too. I do agree it is fun in the end of the game. But strategy is totally absent in more than half the game... you just have to press the same button without thinking and you can win cause the 2 other characters do everything without any problem. Every magic cause roughly the same damages and so on... I really thing they should have make a combination with a system like the one in secret of mana for exemple to give the player more possibilities
shiloushilou 9 months ago
@shiloushilou Alright, that I can believe. When they made this game they did flat out say they were going for a more mainstream approach. Typically side effects can include linearity of a shooter, easiness, etc.

Well, you are right talking about the difficulty but at least there was some in saving magic points for bosses battle or other thing like that. Here there is not need of doing anything. You are automatically healed after battle, you can cast spells as much as you want, job like defender and jammer have absolutely no interest til the end of the game (even if I agree jammer spells are never interesting in any JRPG) and so on.
