  • With all due respect, it sounds like a novice playing a few cliche (tekrary) melodies.

  • Lotfi is a great musician and living legend, the only thing I don't like about him is when he started singing and even though he's certainly a top-notch Tar player, he's a VERY MEDIOCRE singer. He has a rough singing voice, he lost a lot of fans that way. But it has NOTHING to do with politics.

  • @susumu07 I would have to disagree; his voice is very powerful and captivating.

  • @InnerflamesUnLtd

more than Shajarian or Nazeri???? I doubt it. Lotfi's biggest talent is Tar. His second is setar. But his singing is nowhere near as good as his instrumentals. It's that dervish style of singing which doesn't take a huge amount of talent but lots of training. But Shajarian and even Nazeri have much better voice. My main point was Lotfi is not some political "traitor", he's just a VERY talented musician who did what it took to survive some VERY turbulent times in Iran.

  • @susumu07 I'm not a fan of Shajarin at all I'm afraid, however a big fan of Nazeri. What appeals to me most about Lotfi is the quality of his voice (deep, unlike both Shajarian and Nazeri) and as you said the Darvish style of singing, which sounds very natural and heartfelt. Also I don’t know about the “political traitor” side of things and couldn’t care less to be honest.

  • Don't diss Lotfi, he is NOT motreb. He was never Tudeie either.

And back during Shah times, you HAD to act like a "shahi" if you wanted radio stations to play your music and if you wanted to even stay in business.

Shajarian also had to do this, but in the revolution he showed his true resentment of the shah, but then he got disillusioned with the IR as well, so that now he doesn't even want them playing his music.

People who don't understand history like to imagine that everyone's a traitor.

  • WOW.

    That was pretty good.

I'd love to learn setar. How much is a decent one?

  • as only a beginner on the setar, i loved the nature of this song you created - its simple but also deep, you dont need to put all your virtuosity into a piece to make it sound good..

merci - daste shoma dard nakone

  • thanks for posting the video

  • good work my friend, keep on working and don't listen to "nobodies".

  • Eine wunderbare melodi ,gut gespielt.

    Danke !

  • you should pay some respect before you rip-off another countries music

  • Quantum, Your an asshole. This is art, A childs first painting is art, it may not be the best, But it is art. You words are nothing but shit. Good day.

  • It's true. Do you think Ostad Lotfi started incredibly? of course not! but no matter how much you can play, there is always a beginning, and you must perform and present your work to get better. I am a violinist, trombonist, and musician. It is a hobby of mine and i know for a fact that there is a place where you start, and it does not sound good.

  • I have to agree with TheActualBij.

Art is created to provide aesthetic appeal to its audience. It is evident that this song provokes the listener's senses.

A work of art must not be judged based on its complexity, but rather its appeal/meaning. Often, the simplest songs are the most elegant and appealing because they allow the musician to present his feelings in a direct manner.

Complex songs often pollute this medium of expression.

Therefore, it is important to not judge a work of art ....

  • ... based on its complexity, but rather based on the emotional effect that it has on you.

Calling this song 'primitive' is certainly a poor choice of words.

  • I would have to agree with Quantum 19. This is indeed primitive.

Saternolia should define "Art". Art is generally understood to denote "skills used to produce an aesthetic result". The Relativist might argue that this piece is in fact aesthetic! However, there is no doubt that the skill level is primitive.

  • and if music is now being judged on the skill of the player and not the music that they make and the final result then i can definatly say that the beauty of music and its impact on people is truely dead

  • Dear Friend you play 100 times better than charlatans like Mohammad LOTFI who is a torturer in music!

  • Friend,

You are judging a man's musical talent via his personality?! Even if your judgment is not flawed, Lotfi is one of the contemporary masters of tar and setar. Comparing him to Peyman (the creator of this video) is simply nonsensical.

  • hi ! I beleive Lotfi is a degraded corrupt tar player, he has been made famous because the previous regime gave him so much opportunity without deserving it. he was first pro Shahi after revolution he became a Tudeie and in LA he changed into a dervish.and now he is stunt supporter of this inhuman regime of the mollahs. he is playing for khamenei while he smokes opium. so in this respect he is a motreb! musicians should be committed to their people and echo their cry.
