  • Out if the wealth of fabulous cathedral church music he could've chosen he ended up doing the trite, overdone Lloyd Webber Pie Jesu :( To be honest, I think he could probably have sung twinkle twinkle little star and the audience would've fainted in utter rapture. There's more to church and classical music than this! It's so frustrating that people are so easily pleased by young kids singing sweetly, whether or not its actually good music seems totally irrelevant now.

  • Too much vibrato for a chorister; sorry.

  • OH MY GOODNESS, HE'S COMPLETELY ADORABLE...

"I'm going to be perf--peef----performing on Britain's Got Talent"

bloody hell. I want to take him home and feed him cookies and tell him how awesome he is forever and ever. XD <3<3<3 And he did a stunning Pie Jesu on the first round, well done!

  • will he be a member of Libera?

  • vindt du bar til de steme går i overgag

  • Good !

  • i am blown away....and he's just practicing scales...it is so unfair!!!!

  • Maravillosa voz...

  • Would you please tell Andrew not to give up!

Tell him to go back to Britans Got Talent and do it again!

    NEVER GIVE UP ANDREW!

    YOU ARE TOPS!!!

  • i'm surprised his album isn't in the charts.

i thought it'd get a lot of people buying it but as far as i can seel it's not there.

type yahoo album charts uk into google and it lists the top 75 albums - the priests and the salvation army are there but not andrew.

beats me why not - perhaps his record company didn't promote him properly.

    [andrewjohnstonmusic followed by com]

  • it ranked #4 on the charts in britain

  • lol he didnt sound too excited when he was talking about BGT lol :P

keep going Andrew, you have amazing talent!

  • doesn't matter what ppl say. andrew is amazing and has a great future !

  • counter tenor?

  • No, treble - an unbroken/unchanged boy's voice. A counter-tenor is an adult male voice used and trained a particular way to reach very high notes

  • ahh...

    what's with this high notes..

    talent?

  • Yes . . . and, very importantly, training.

  • Harmonizing, not matching the notes, there is a vast difference if you know music. And if you don't, then simply don't assume you do, just be quiet. He harmonizes wonderfully with the keys hit. Andrew, just because you didn't win BGT, keep going. You'll be even more famous than you already are.

  • He isn't flat at all. Listen to the piano, which plays the same note he sings. If the scale is C the he is simply singing the harmonic scale of C which makes the 7th note a B flat. It actually takes a lot more talent to be able to sing in sharps and flats than in natural major scales.

  • the kid is a good singer but in this instance is the product of television hype, in which case you're giving him too much credit. harmonic majors indeed. either my ear is out or he and the piano are on two different wavelengths. what i will grant you is that maybe the pianist put him off.

  • Its an E major scale with a flattened 7th.

I believe they call it Mixolydian.

    E F# G# A B C# D E

    1 2 3 4 5 6 b7 8

  • It's not. It's a kid singing flat on the SI of a normal major scale.

  • It is Mixolydian

    look it up...

  • We did that type of thing in orchestra...he's just practicing hitting different notes.

flatten and sharpen specific notes for the sole purpose of muscle memory

  • Well, u said u were excited right?

    I don't see any excitement there -_-

    But kid...

Ima give u credit for that voice of urs.

u shatter the ear drums of ur bullies when u stand next to them and shout that loud in to their ear!XD

  • cause his voice will squeek xD

  • Why?

  • I doubt missing the Ti was an accident, I dont know but it could have been another scale?

  • well, it was definitely a major scale. let's say it was c major. what was the 7th note he sang?

  • i doubt he was flat by accident. they would have edited it out if he was.. the people promoting him stand to make too much money off him to miss something like that

  • There happens to be more than one major scale you numpty. C major could therefore be alot lower to sing that f# major. Plus the C7 note in the C major scale happens to be a B which is flat in the C scale.

  • that's my point, numpty. so he was flat on a flat. which would mean that, if, for example, the scale was C, he did't sing B on C7, since the note he sang was clearly flatter than a C7. so, i repeat my question: what note was it, numpty humpty dumpty? let's say, bumpty, for argument's sake, that it was f# major: name the seventh note he sang.

  • Singing a Bb note and singing flat are two different things. If he 'sang the note flat' he would be singing an A. And if the key is F# then the 7th he would be singing is D# or major 7th wud be E.

  • i didn't say that singing a Bb note and singing flat are the same thing. you are running out of agruments, obviously, and resort to polemic and misrepresentation to get round a question you can't answer. let's say, for argument's sake, it was C major: he reach the B natural and wasn't a whole tone out. so, the note he sang resides somewhere between B natural and B flat. right?

  • Musically notes run in tones and semi-tones, B being the tone and Bb the semi-tone. There is hardly anything vocally to sing between a tone and semi-tone. I think the error falls in making a video which a clip of someone singing a random harmonic scale. such a short video clip makes its sound very unattractive.

  • a note on a piano can be out by a quarter tone. accordianss for playing argentine tango actually have quarter tones. i say andrew johnston was attempting to sing a normal major scale (as in the rest of the video), didn't quite make the TI but was higher than the LA. he was, therefore, about by about a quarter or a tone off key, IMHO. a bit like he is when he sings the eric clapton song on britain's got talent.

  • he's so cute!

  • i totally agree

  • I don´t like WHAT he´s singin but he´s pretty good and i couldn´t do better Respect him

  • Great job Andrew--I saw you on the Britains Got Talent show here on YouTube---you've got a fan all the way here in the USA-I'm sure you've got many!!!

  • He's voice is perfection! I listen to him three times. I felt so bad when he did not win. I would buy his music CD if he gets signed. God Bless you Andrew. The same angels that gave you that voice will continue loving you and sending you more gifts.

  • He is already signed by SyCo. I don't know if the CD is out or if it is about to come out, but it should be a good one.

  • Nice flatted seventh on the final scale you sang!

  • well whats a little flatted 7th between friends.. lol

  • he meant the second last tone which was a little a bit lower then it should be..

  • yes im aware of what a flat 7th is, as well as a diminished 7th, a picardy third, french 6th, etc. Reread what I wrote.. I said "well whats a little flatted 7th between friends?" a joke...

  • well... i don't get it.. my english's not that good to get that implicit meaning. sorry!

  • He can sing quite beautiful and very high. If he can keep this after his adolescence he could probably be a man soprano like that other guy from the east of europe (I guess he's from the ucraine)

  • Generally called a counter tenor... but if he takes care of his voice through puberty, he could be an amazing tenor...

  • That Vitas guy?

  • o just 2 tell us dis isnt sandito its his sister mess im on his site cuz myn wudnt log in but anyway i think he is brilliant lyk i love george n hes real gd bu i thot andrew deserved it more bu congrats ta george anyways n i no dat andrew wil go far cuz he brought a tear 2 me n all my friends eyes i love him he is soooooo gd

  • I think you you got 2 word's right.

  • About three actually...

  • well hes a good singer but judybaybee to say that hes sexy?

  • I think that's what's called 'wishful thinking' . . .

  • ROFL!XD

  • I guess it must take one to know one then.

  • He Has A Fantastic Voice It Makes Me Cry And I Am Only 11 Years Old,, I lIsten To It Ovaa And Ovaa Again, I am Surprised That You Didnt Win It I Faught You Was Brillian. :]

  • i luv him andrew ftw!!!

  • He so cute and shy and modest!

  • So agreed what you said ! =)

  • you are awsome. the thing is nowadays young kids prefer hiphop r&b rock music, and the kind of music which andrew loves is disaprin.its soooo good that see him bring it back with his talent.andrew got taste, thats only I can say.and be honest I will nevr listen this type music until I saw him performend on the show.

  • is that all he can sing?

  • Of course not. He is in a choir where he is soloist, he can sing much more then only this one,

  • God bless you Andrew =)

You are an amazing kid ! I love ya ~ You are really cute.. And sings really well too =)

You will shine brightly for sure !

Regards from Brian, Malaysia ! =)

  • Amazing boy! very very very amazing talent at that age.. wow

  • Nice voice. His voice is not very high placed, more of a mezzo-soprano range than soprano. The middle register is amazing, but he sounds slightly strained when attacking the upper notes.

  • neeeeeeeeek

  • you're great! :[]

  • I just read that Carlisle Cathedral's choir school was closed in 1935. As an ex cathedral chorister, I attended a choir school on a full scholarship (my parents aren't wealthy, as is the case of most cathedral choristers) and my days as a chorister are some of the happiest memories I have. It's such a shame that Anderew has to put up with all the bullying as this just wouldn't have happened if Carlisle still had it's cathedral choir school.

Great voice Andrew - just ignore them and shine...

  • we gotta call heaven cuz a angel is missing

  • not sure how good hell actually sound when his voice brks though..

  • Andrew is and will be an amazing person in his future life

  • to all the the guys out there who think bullies are cool, wait until your own kids get bullied.. i was a teacher and i know...

  • Not sure why everyone's dissing you, zezyman. What you state is an historical fact and is, actually, complimentary of Andrew's singing. Anyone who doesn't understand what he's talking about should do a search on 'castrato'.

Andrew, as you can see there are hundreds of people supporting you from all over the world! I am well taught in music and from my point of view you are very talented! Keep it up! Just don not listen to those silly guys bullying you!

  • His voice reminds me of Lord of the Rings. I just love it, I could listen so his voice all the time!

  • i can accually imagine him singing the super smash bros brawl intro

  • hes quite sumthin!...gd luck in Britain's got talent...awesome voice!

  • Andrew go on m8.

i hope to hear more of you..

Make me proud en let urzelf hear in the netherlands.(gives an standing ovation)

I like ur style of music

  • This is not my kind of music - But I still think he's awesome! Keep it up Andrew!

  • love his voice. the beste ever

  • Good luck Andrew. A lovely voice. He is very special indeed.

  • give this kid a contract... his voice has such pathos.. beautiful...

  • briliant voice good luck on Britain's got talent

  • mate up to you life a get

  • i couldent even finish the vid i had to keep rewindin it fuckin awesome

  • if the worlds priorities were straight. because he is a choir boy he should be revered not bullied.. but thats whats wrong with the world. andrews voice is BEAUTIFUL. bravo

  • yep!

  • He's a great singer and he's not that fat, respect him. You could never sing like that in your life.

  • fuck it hes a great singe

  • He's as good as Charlotte Church, and I bet he'll be as famous, too! I was floored!

  • i go to his school. he's in year 8 but im in year 11. hes really good.. but in our recent newsletter we were told by the headmaster that none of the bullying ever took place in school, and that the press should of done well to discard it! however, if andrew said that it was at school why would they discard it??

  • Of course the headmaster is going to deny that the boy was ever bullied. If he admits the boy was constantly bullied that makes him look bad because it makes it look like he never did anything about the situation or that he does not have control of the school. Nobody is going to want to look terrible to the media.

  • I agree, why would he make that up? And think about it, hes a choire boy. Of course he gets bullied.

Anyway I think he has an amazing voice so i wish him all the well for with his talent and not cause hes been bullied. I think hell go far.

  • he's really good. but he sed thaat he was realy excitted but he dusn't look it.

  • cause he gets bullied

  • He IIs Mint ..

    Go Andrew xx

  • the angel of the north has sung

  • I´m npt christian, but I don´t think you have to be in supporting this amazing young boy! GO ANDREW!

  • Too bad I live in the USA. I wouldn't mind going to that concert. He has an amazing voice. A wonderful gift.

  • he's from carlisle?

    REALLY?!?!?!

i live very near there and im usually in carlisle, mainly staggering drunk past the cathedral.

wow! scary to think that such talent is actually from carlisle!!!

    go Andrew!

  • Really unbelieveable voice, we even heard about him here in Germany, all the best for the future, I'ill be in line to buy the first album.

  • awesome, what a voice, he deserves to go right to the top, such a lovely lad.

    goodluck Andrew. x

  • He is sensational.

How far did he make it or is it early yet?

  • As far as BGT is concerned it's early. He's got through the first audition.

  • He is in semi-finals

  • Ok, so he is semi finals now. Thats great. Any more videos. When is the final?

  • @_@ Is there anymore act from him?

  • The final is on Saturday 31st May at 6.50pm.

  • Don't be ridiculous! Choirs _cost_ money to run; they don't _make_ money. Churches and cathedrals invest huge amounts of money in their choristers.

  • We do not have a lot of money in the choir, they are hoping to take the boys on tour to Stavanger at the end of summer, it is also very hard to recruit boys to sing in Cathedral Choirs, where ever they may be. The choir is pushing this; A. because we are supporting Andrew and would love to see him win, B. because it will help every Cathedral Choir with recruitment and hopefully help cut down on the bullying that many choristers suffer and C. Andrew loves and supports the choir as we all do.

  • I completely understand what you mean! Don´t know exactly if that is the case but I wouldn't be surprised...

    Go Andrew, you´re wonderful!!!

    Congratulations from Portugal!

  • I want him to sing at my wedding, haha.

  • (He is hopefully singing at mine !!!)

  • USA , New York State...we are ANDREW JOHNSTON fans!!! You have the voice of an angel..Bless You!!!!

  • USA, Virginia were your fans down here too.

  • I can't wait until someone puts on your next performance! Well done!

  • What an amazing young chap. I have watched Andrews performance on 'Britian's got talent'. I was in in tears and from reading comments on an Australian news web site so were 100's more in tears. Andrews performance of Pie Jesu...the most moving performance I have heard.

  • All has been said. Keep on singing, little one!

  • Andrew, what can I say...? I am so obsessed with your angelic voice and I am inspired by your positive attitude... Dear Andrew, best of luck and keep up the good work.

  • Good luck Andrew :D amazing singing and gift you have!!

  • You did an awesome job at Britain got talent!!!

    Chrystal clear voice, amazing!!

Knock those bullies down man, stand up for yourself!

  • You rule man... you just blow my mind with your amazing voice...

  • well done andy , you go for it kid , my grandfather was in durham cathedral chior for along time n as he got older his voice was like a angels truly. even now 30 yrs after his death people still say about his voice so theres no limits andy when your voice breaks to still sing like a angel hunnie x im voting for you as i think youv got a real chance ov winning bgt 2008x your a true star x keep singin n never let the bullys grind ya down ,good luck andrew

  • He sounds amazing. I was sad when I heard him say he was bullied at school for singing choral music. I got aa bit of flak when I was in the Chapel Choir at King's in NZ for still being a treble at age 14. Not as bad as Andrew I guess, but it does suck. Anyway, Andrew, you sound amazing, and I hope you continue singing and continue to impress the world!

  • I saw BGT and this boy is amazing, the purest voice I've heard. He gives me chills and deserves to sing for the pope.

  • Ahh, my cathedral. I'm the girl head chorister there.

    Go andrew!

  • an amazing boy with a big heart, god surely has given him the angels voice.

  • im a head chorister but i dont know how much longer i will be, im 14 and my voice is gonna break soon :( im lucky it hasnt already

  • I want him to sing at my wedding! :D

  • You go Andrew!

  • Not true... It can if he works it... his voice already is lower than a normal kids.

  • Yes, but it's better not to attempt continue to sing in the soprano range once the voice drops. One should use the voice they have, not try to create an artificial one.

  • Andrew...slow down...take a breath..think about what your doing. Then let your talent shine....your sure to be a super star!!!

  • He is an angel and a legend as well.

  • wow ure jst amazing totally amazing

  • you kick ass! you are awesome!!! carry on singing!
