  • Well spoken. I get depressed when I see an anti intellect bent in America in general but it is very pronounced in the black community. "Keeping it real" keeps it low brow and frankly dumb. Good job Mr. Black! I almost said Mister Charley but that would be me. Just kidding guys put the anger down.

  • You know, white people really dont give a fuck about being called a cracker or whitey or whatever the fuck it is people call them/us. Were just to proud and arrogant to give a shit. Not that thats a good thing, but still, using the word nigger is WAY more offensive than using the word cracker or whitey or whatever. Its rather obvious for anyone with an IQ above 100. Black people have reasons to feel offended, since - lets face it - being black aint a "hoot" in this world. Being white, is.

  • Speaking for myself, it's not nearly as important what someone calls me as it is what the intentions were behind what they called me. I'm not black but looking in from the outside, I think the word niggER and the word niggA is very different. Nigga is generally used in a friendly way. Almost like saying brother. Nigger on the other hand, is rarely used in a kind way. If nigga is used amongst friends and is not intended in a derogatory way, who really cares?

  • Why use it AT ALL!~!!

I'm white...and I would NEVER use it because I hate to hear it.

Why would you EVER EVER use it?????

And what gives YOU the right to use it if EVERYONE can't!! Sorry!

  • @krazykim84 why not use it if it fits? Its like my lebanese neighbor said, blacks have earned the word "nigger" via their attitudes and conduct.I think hes right.

  • The word police is in effect.

  • I am an Italian. My friends joke with me about being a Wop or a Dago everyday. Do I feel offended? Sometimes.

I take the same approach as Bill Cosby. There are black people and there are niggers.

I say the word. It is just a word and I feel as long as there is no hate hate or malice when I say it, there is no harm.

No one(black, white, etc.) has a problem on the other hand when people say Cracker and hate on "Whitey".

I'ts not what they cal you, its what you answer to." -DL Hugley

  • I believe it's Chris Rock who did the black/nigger joke. You can slice it you want, but once you open Pandora's box w/ the N word. You start trouble. I personally hate terms like cracker, spic, nigger...mainly because I know people can use them in a "joking manner" when they are friends, but as soon as there is a rift they turn into hate words. If you are best friends and that's what you do, that's fine, but respect to not use it to anyone on the street is another entirely different issue.

  • I feel that people are too comfortable with words like those and they are unnecessary. Trying to change the definition and it NEVER works. It hasn't worked in 50 years of commercializing the word. My approach is that there are black people, good and bad. Not "niggers" and black people. Rock's jokes were funny at the time, but they aren't realistic. Like I said if it's a personal choice, that's fine. Not every black person likes or wants the words used and people seem to forget that.

  • That's the problem. If everyone didn't want certain words used. In America, it would probably progress to the point where it becomes a "thought crime". There are people who get so riled up when someone says, "that's gay." It's sad how everyone is offended by everything nowadays. People can't seem to grasp the concept of people putting the intent behind the word (i.e. malicious intent, endearing intent, etc).

  • Most of them are not African-Americans. They are not from Africa. Like it or not their race is Negro.

  • You don't have to be from Africa to be AFRICAN. People migrate. Negroid would be the appropriate term. Your race is based on your ancestors not your current place of birth or nationality. Your race is about your PHYSICAL characteristics. Many people don't understand that and end up saying stupid things like "I am not African I'm black". I've never heard of a Mongoloid (Asian) person coming to America saying I am not Asian I'm yellow. It is stupid.

  • I think the context matters when using so-called offensive words. As a gay person, it means one thing when a friend refers to me as a homo or fag, and something else when someone I'm not as comfortable with says the same thing. I'm not trying to directly compare, because i do realize the weight behind the N word, but it often comes down to the familiarity of who you're speaking to. Words are powerful tools. They can inspire, depress or bring people closer, even if they are "offensive".

  • And by the way we all share the same bloodline all early humans came from africa

  • Jimmy Hendrix, Chuck Berry. Jimmy did more Rock n Roll, go back further to Rockabilly. All the same bloodline? There is a difference between finding the earliest evidence of human life in Africa and finding that life began in Africa. Science and the bible often conflict.

  • what im saying is that we are all related to some degree because we are all the same species.

  • HORSE SHIT

  • jimmy hendrix wasnt a popular black rock figure?

  • The word nigger is a derogatory word that placed on African-Americans hundreds of years ago. I don't have any strong feelings either way of the use of the word nigger but I do know that if African-Americans continue to use in rap/hip-hop songs, for addressing eachother, etc. It will only aid in the continuance of that word being a "tag" for blacks.

  • No justification for that word whether a bp or non black uses it. Its a derogatory word and always will be and its foolhardy to believe that just because some aas use it as a term of endearment it means that the meaning has changed it hasnt.all over the world the word is derogatory and will always remain so you did not create the word so you cannot change the meaning hence why you are offended when a non black uses it. No other race uses offensive words to describe themselves but blacks.

  • That is actually not true. White people use redneck, honky, white trash in music and amongst each other (see Jeff Foxworthy), Asians use fob, Hispanics/Latinos say wetback, vato, and others I can't recall off the top of my head. EVERY CULTURE has these types of derogatory words, it seems that the only word people cling to in such a fashion is the N word. The offense is the offense, but it does have much to do with who delivers the message.

  • NO WE DONT

  • The best explanation I've heard was by Tim Wise. Any white person saying that if blacks can use it, then it's ok for whites is playing a very unconvincing game to disguise racism (as Wise points out). Wise's arguments really back you up on this issue.

  • Well said, but I think it's just as offensive regardless of who is using it.

  • Brilliant post. I appreciate you calling it like you see it. The point that seems lost is that our strength as Americans does not come from our diversity, but rather from us being work together in spite of that. We must be able to allow ourselves to put that all aside, and function as one. While much of what I say is politically correct, it is still undeniably true.

I look forward to future interaction!

  • ...negating the sacrifices that men and women of all races made to bring it up. Frankly, it is disrespectful to everyone. In the black community, the common use of the word will set a rift between the younger and older sides of the culture. In other communities, the word will distance them from the Black community out of sheer awkwardness, which is a crime because it has so much to offer. Unfortunately, I do not see this getting better anytime soon. Keep up the good work Mr. Black.

  • The ways the N word is used now is between older and younger black people, as we do remember Richard Prior and Red Fox sharing the trends. Look at many blaxploitation films you can see that the word used as everything but a way of attack. I think as much as people outside of the race use it when you ask them why they generally say because "black people do it to each other" as if that is a good enough reason to disregard a cultural boundary. I hope things get better though.

  • The usage of the word perpetuates the cycle of the word, which is to stimulate ignorance among people. Rap music isn't to only predominantly Afro-American genre. Consider Soul and Blues. I never heard BB King or Aretha Franklin use the word in any of their lyrics. I don't know why it is more common in rap music today than in popular black music 30 years ago when rap was born in New York City, but I do not like it. It just continues to needlessly bring an entire culture down,...

  • Soul and blues music is attributed to black people but the INNOVATION newest to black music genres is Hip Hop/Rap music. For those who didn't want to compete on the blues and soul forefront. Those who were fans of rock and pop music. Hence RnB and Hip Hop. I think it is true the overuse of the word is pretty tacky, but at the same time I think that the use of the word NIGGA and its connotation now has been given by the BLACK community. The way people intend to use the word now is as an embrace

  • I respect your opinion, but I disagree. Since some people of all races will agree with you and some will disagree, there is no set right or wrong. There is no law or committee to grant someone the "honor" of being able to call someone "nigga", so I think that each person, of every race, will have to decide for themselves what the social mores of their community will allow. Obviously, if I call you "nigga" or any other word that you take offense to, I should respect your request for me not to

  • i definitely agree with making the decision appropriate to each culture. at the end of the day though, the history of that word and its power is only directed at ONE group of people. it's all about knowing the history of the word and recognizing the appropriateness. i feel that every culture or race has a word like "nigga", but why is it that this is the only one that's used across the board? i think it's really selfish

  • ....back town to why those terms were originated, and obviously they weren't CREATED as a joke. So sure we can say things to one another, obviously without taking offense to it, because we know we're not what's considered a normal American descendant (which is a whole other argument itself), and don't mean anything by it. But its the principle of the matter of how and why these terms come about that keeps us from abusing the terms amongst ourselves and our respective communities.

  • exactly. knowing is everything. but also being careful that if it is not your history and you are trying to take ownership of it. it is disrespectful. i'm sure if people truly knew what they were doing when they said the word they'd use it in moderation or not at all. it's unfortunate that so many people refuse to get informed.

  • The "N" worh overall makes me uncomfortable. Now I'm not black, but I'm not white. I'm latino. Also understand my closest friends and I are a politically correct bunch being descendants of middle eastern, African American, German and puerto rican. We use our own terms loosely as a joke or in a teasing manner, but stayin classy I won't provide examples as I'm sure you know what some are. My point is even within our own groups, we limit the usage of the words simple because it all boils....

  • dude, you make some darn good points. i am white, but i am going to make a video response to this, so i hope it causes no offense. (i'm fairly certain its not going to, but hey, just making sure)
