I shot at some buzzards at around 400 yards thinking I wouldnt even get close, I held it around 4 feet over them, did miss them but they did fly away from the bullet hitting close.
Im looken at buying a 17 hmr for up at the range because its cheap and good at long distance im stuck between two guns this one and a savage i wana be able to shoot 1.5 or 1 inch groups at 200 years will this gun do it?
@Bowhunter82393 I havent gotten to do any long distance range shooting yet so i cant answer that... but, i will tell you, it all depends on how much you wanna spend on a gun. I went with the mossberg because it was pretty cheap. If you can afford it, i would go with the savage, just because they are a little higher grade firearm
thats what im looken at is the savage i just want a long range plinker and small game gun i dont like.22 because they drop like a rock past 75 yrds i got 50 bucks saved up so far in a coffe can....so i still got a lil ways to go thanks
haha dude coyotes are so much tougher than deer tho. you would need at least a 223. to take one down...itd still require a final kill-shot once you got to it tho.
@dbikedude it all depends on what kinda shot your gonna take, you could easily take out a coyote with a .17 shooting the TNT's or VMax's with a head shot. but if youre not gonna take the head shot, then yeah you would be better off shooting a .223
Ok, have done some tests. In light winds, I can shoot a 5c peice at 50m. I scoped it in for 45m and shot a rabbit at 85m with the crosshair right on the target. It was about a 40km wind too. Supprised me how accurate it was even in the wind. Have read that they are accurate to within 2 inches at 200m if scoped in at 100m. I love this rifle. Was able to scope it in with 10 rounds and went rabbit hunting and spent two rounds and got 2 rabbits. Best rifle I have ever brought.
@4986hunterofsouth ive seen some shots made at over 200 yards on here... i was just messing around and was shooting down hill, so the wind was greatly effecting the bullet
nice! i have the 817 also but its black with a stainless barrel. the only thing i dont like is it doesnt have some sights instead of just a scope mount. i Got a nice stainless scope for it at my local Bass Pro Shops. But i love it its a nice all around varmit gun.
he's left handed, why didn't get left handed bolt bolt action

please respond can you put a bipod on. is there a place for a swivel
BiohazardShock1 4 months ago
@BiohazardShock1 it does not come with sling studs, but you could easily put some on and use one of them to attach a bipod

xARMEDCIVILIANx 1 year ago
@xARMEDCIVILIANx I honestly dont know. I do know the ones that came with the Bushnell scope wouldnt fit so the gun smith swapped them out.

@stupidfool26 no problem man
bassbuggy101 2 years ago
could this rifle knock down a deer
stupidfool26 2 years ago
@stupidfool26 it has the velocity, however the bullet is just too small/light. coyotes are the largest game i would try to take with it
bassbuggy101 2 years ago
I have heard that even though the wind effects the bullet, It will still be alot more accurate than a .22lr.
WIll be picking my 817 up next week, I'll do some long range shots and let you's know what the range is like.
Pilot2242 2 years ago
@Pilot2242 yeah i do know the wind will greatly affect the accuracy, due to the light bullet....let me know how it goes!
