  • @M4037331

    Hi

You can leave it out. Traditional gujju dal doesn't require curry leaves...enjoy!

    Hi

    Enjoy!

  • Thank you Bhavana - This Daal was ever present on our Dining Table in my Hostel and we kids used to have multiple servings of this daal just to fish for the boiled 'Sing' in it.

I always used to wonder - If it is indeed Daal , then where is the daal in it ! - Mystery Solved - you strain out the Daal after boiling and mashing out all the goodness from it into Daal Water.

  • @mmjagan

  • HI Bhavna, can you do a video on how to make the achaar in the picture of this video at 0.37?

  • @Shepherdess501

    Hi

It is not achaar but cabbage sambharo or cabbage curry. It taste so delicious with dal roti. If you would like to see, I will definitely share. It's really easy! Enjoy!

  • I LOOOOOOOVE Gujarati dal...My FAVORITE dal is whenever we go to the Swaminarayan Temple...i don't know why it tastes AMAZING but I think it's because it was served to Swaminarayan bagwan first! YUMMMMM

  • @pathu32

    Hi

Yes, I do believe that food with god's blessing has unique taste and that's why whenver we make something good, always serve God first and than we eat. Enjoy!

  • In the beginning you are trying to sell as if in a TV commercial. This is not traditional Gujarati Dal but Bhavna's Gujarati Dal. Most of time peanuts and tomatoes are omitted. And when tomatoes are used not like this. We gujjus who cook this daily will simply add largish chunks of tomatoes when boiling dal or omit it altogether. Also please omit red chili and cinnamon and curry leaves from tadka. Make tadka simple gujarati tadka.

No need impress north/south indics. Our food is great as it is.

  • @einsteinwallah2

Thanx for sharing your family recipe but each and every household makes it differently. Hope you respect others diversity and not call it commercial selling. Enjoy!

  • @einsteinwallah2

    Hi

It's just common sense, she did say few things optional under ingredients list and I am agree that everyone makes things differently. I remember my mom made dal almost same and seen other Gujaratis making it may just few variantions but the concept remais the same.

  • @einsteinwallah2 I am Gujarati as well and all dhal I have ever eaten has always had cinnamon, and sometimes has had red chili depending on the cook. Also Bhavna stated very clearly in the video that she does the tomatoes in this way because it is her preference to not have the skin and seeds.

Every cook in my family makes dhal in a different way, obviously the variation is even more outside of one family.

  • @75noodles

  • @sunny0057

  • Great

    Thanx

  • I liked your way of making this daal....I also add athano masalo for a nice flavor sometimes!

    thanks! :)

  • Hi

    Thanx for sharing.

  • I use the oily toor dal too. Bhavna what size is your pressure cooker? Was just wondering? I store my cilantro in a muslin cloth too( I got it from Joanne Fabrics) and store in a steel container with the holes in, also my green chiles that I don't grind I store it the same way. Thanks for awesome gujarati dal, Good job!

  • Hi

Thanx for sharing good tips. My prssure cooker size is 2 litre and I also have different size of other cooker since every single day, most of the things I make in pressure cooker. Enjoy!

  • i always use oily toor dal/ for this dish.

but can you make this with unoily one? which is better?

  • hi Bhavna,

i m also gujju ..i see all ur recepies..each r different and new...great work...how did u learn all mexican food? also need to ask " how do u store cilantro?"..i wrap in paper n put in a container in fridege but then also it gets spoiledin 2-3 days..can u tell me?

  • Hi

I keep learning new recipes all the time. I just need to eat once in the restaurant and within a week, I make perfact recipe by hook or by cook...funny..haa!!

For cilantro, try using muslin cloth instead of paper towel. Use the bag with holes in it. My cilantro stays good all the time, hardly gets spoiled. Thanx

  • Thank you very much for the recipe. I have a doubt- You have listed cumin and green chillies, but you didn't add in the actual recipe. Perhaps you might have substituted fenugreek(not listed) for cumin and red chilli powder for green chillie paste. right??

  • Just an follow up- I just made this recipe with all the ingredients(cumin, fenugreek and green chillies); It was excellent. I certainly will make it again and again. Thank you.:)

  • Hi

That's great. Really happy for you. This dal even if you make it very simple still taste great. Thanx for sharing

  • Hi

Yes, as I written down, I sometimes use combination of both red and green chili or the othe time, just one of those. Also I add mustard and cumin only but my mohter-in-law adds only mustard and fenugreek seeds...so as I said many variations to this dal...But it still taste good!! And I also keep changing ingredients for even my daily gujarati food. Keep enjoying!!

  • Ahhhhhhh!!!!! Dar, bhatt, shak, rotli and dahi!!!!!!!!!! I'm so HUNGRY right now!

  • ya i am curious too :) this is a good way to take oil because i strugle to pour oil out of these big container!!

  • Hi

That's right. Only one big container. No need to have another small container for daily use.

  • wow awesome recipe...btw, what brand oil do u use..i was just curious with the way your oil container looks (i could see in the video on your counter)

  • Hi

I use Canola oil. Brand sometimes, wesson or sometimes others...But the dispenser is so helpful. You can control on oil and no mess at all. I bought from walmart. Fixed few things to fit in and works great.
