  • Jeff Minter is a plagiarist. Never had an original game idea in his life. Criticizes other game types but all he ever came up with were sideways scrolling shoot-em-ups. Basic stuff. Spent his life getting high while churning out crap to feed his habit. His early stuff was all the same, just change the sprites from a camel to a minotaur and voila! Nothing innovative just the same old formula.

  • @kitwalker2006 I don't think so - there are plenty of innovations in his games. There are only a handful of styles of game - what he does is innovate to make his games very playable. I, for one, appreciate the huge amount effort and care of his games.

  • @kitwalker2006 What game is better? I also play other types of games - but that's not what Jeff does - he does fast, graphically rich arcade games very well.

  • What a legend!

  • so many things have happened since the 80's.i used to have a commodore 64.i remember the camel games and gridrunner.thanks jeff

  • Well I did play his Tempest 2000 as loud as it would go, to piss off my neighbors. It worked.

  • It's so great to see the guy talk about these old games. He was one of my heroes when I was in my teens.

I grew up on the C64 games by Jeff, absolutely loved them. Nothing beats Revenge of the mutant Camels for me. Seeing him talk about his work is exactly how I hoped he would be like. Totally absorbed into the weird world of his games.

The games world needs more people like Minter and less of the corporate crap that these large companies try to feed us.

    Thanks for sharing this beasty!.

  • "P*ss off Dell!" Hehehe.

  • 6 dislikes?

    To you people -

May the fleas of a thousand camels infest your armpits!

  • Jeff Minter is one of those guys you just want to see win, in life. I doubt Jeff knows about this particulare video, or my comment, but if you do, it would be awesome to meet you!

  • Some of the shit on here and this only gets 11'000 hits in 3 years =/

JM was & is an inspiration to many of us.

  • Gutted that there wasnt more people there to listen to him,

Amazed that people left, rather than asking questions,

    This guy IS gaming history!

  • great, really interesting vid from a unique geeza! (BTW im planning on making a tribute to him and his games soon!)

  • Wish he was my friend..Games, Sheep, Lamas and Pink Floyd..The man..

  • great to see some history - cheers Mr Minter...

  • 00:42:20 - "Cube Is Not For Yiffing"

  • Currently on sale on Steam for $2! (or a pack of games for $10). Gotta get this :O

  • Wonderful. It's been two years since I played Space Giraffe, but I can still understand it. I know exactly what was going on, even in Flumm Ox. There's something about that game... Watching it again made me feel... warm. I really need to get my 360 fixed. The one game I miss playing the most, is Space Giraffe. Screw Halo and Burnout and Assassin's Creed. They're good games, I will replay them when I can, but most of all I want my giraffe back!

I could buy it off Steam, of course... hm...

  • While the games are great, but I still can't believe Llamasoft has only about 5 buyable games after they have been founded 28 years ago.

  • great show this. so good to see jeff who influenced the industry so much at the time. though his games were wierd, they were streets ahead in playablilty and stretched the machine so much compared to other software authors

  • What is his obsession with bulls and sheep?

  • @TheCrackbinge lol he loves them,, he once said on a coach of rockers "i would rater have an sheep than a woman " lol thinking back it was funny that the whole coach went silent

  • It sounds like he sampled part of a KLF song(MU MU) in space giraffe

  • I love hearing about a successful hippy!! Go Yak!

  • Couldnt see the enimies because of the background? Say again, Mr. Minter?

  • 0:19:13 ftw. Jeff Minter ftw :)

  • Rating #100!

    Perfect score, new highscore achieved!

Funny thing, I can understand everything being said hear. Bit of a mouthbreather which doesn't surprise me though ;)

  • Also: LOL @ "Piss off, Dell Support!"

Man oh man. Great games here.

  • "Look, whatever you do, y'know if you're gonna design the graphics for my game, whatever you do don't make it so you design the... you have the backgrounds and then you can't see the enemies in front of the backgrounds, because that really ruins the game." O_o

  • I love Jeff Minter's work, from the early 80's up to the Xbox360.

Great work, love your visualizer stuff . . .

  • Does anyone have that Jaguar visualizer rom?

  • great video, jeff minter is a great programmer.

  • LOL the score readout is a simulation of Nixie tubes! (look it up)

  • he is a genius!

  • i could not agree more with minter on his game design evolution ideas.

  • Jeff is a genius, I really hope he'll release more of his fantastic games on Xbox Live Arcade!

  • This is my favourite Xbox 360 game (I'm in the 30s in the high score table) and I love it. More, more, more! And charge more for it this time :)

  • lol.bosses get right on mt tits

  • minter rules.

  • Met him once in a computer shop in Tottenham Court Road and bought a copy of Sheep in Space just so he could sign it for me, haha!

  • Magic! Do you still have it? The man seems pretty down to Earth.

  • Unfortunately not, am sure it would've been worth a few bob one day tho :\

  • Oops, sorry, I was signed in on my housemates login for that last post! hehehe.. I used to also see Jeff at the numerous PC shows, there with his bare feet and mum tagging along :) Such a great character, it's a shame he seems to be so shunned by the big corporate bastards nowadays tho :(

  • His point around 27 minutes about iterative game development is highly cogent and relevant.

It is one core reason why so many big games are 'joyless'.

  • can we have this game on pc ?? please jeff !! I was a big fan of tempest 2000 on jaguar !!

  • 'The camel in the C64 version looked like two fat men in a pantomime camel suit made out of lego'.

    All hail Yak the hairy!

  • lmao@a packet of rizla and 3 bensons. Legend.

  • myth.

  • What a decent bloke. Nice to hear down to earth tech talk instead of the usual bullshit and spin we hear all the time these days.

  • Jeff Minter = cool

chill out rounds instead of boss fights, now thats what I like! :-))

  • Nice to see Jeff Minter go over his career like that and give some insight towards his philosophy on game-making. I've wrapped Space Giraffe and the game is really good once you figure out how the game works.

  • Kick ass! One of the oldest and best! Nice to see he's a nice guy too.

  • Nice video.

  • Love the old skool rave tunage for Space Giraffe!

  • Really enjoyed this talk, informative & entertaining, really glad people like Jeff are in the game industry with their own ideas & experiments they want to push forward and evolving gameplay & game creation into other avenues.

Great watch & really looking forward to playing Space Giraffe on Wednesday.

  • What a beautiful history lesson!

  • Jeff Minter rocks

  • Why was there only a handful of people at (what looks like) an amazing event?
