Jeff Minter is a plagiarist. Never had an original game idea in his life. Criticizes other game types but all he ever came up with were sideways scrolling shoot-em-ups. Basic stuff. Spent his life getting high while churning out crap to feed his habit. His early stuff was all the same, just change the sprites from a camel to a minotaur and voila! Nothing innovative just the same old formula.
@kitwalker2006 I don't think so - there are plenty of innovations in his games. There are only a handful of styles of game - what he does is innovate to make his games very playable. I, for one, appreciate the huge amount effort and care of his games.
@kitwalker2006 What game is better? I also play other types of games - but that's not what Jeff does - he does fast, graphically rich arcade games very well.
It's so great to see the guy talk about these old games. He was one of my heroes when I was in my teens.
I grew up on the C64 games by Jeff, absolutely loved them. Nothing beats Revenge of the mutant Camels for me. Seeing him talk about his work is exactly how I hoped he would be like. Totally absorbed into the weird world of his games.
The games world needs more people like Minter and less of the corporate crap that these large companies try to feed us.
Jeff Minter is one of those guys you just want to see win, in life. I doubt Jeff knows about this particulare video, or my comment, but if you do, it would be awesome to meet you!

Wonderful. It's been two years since I played Space Giraffe, but I can still understand it. I know exactly what was going on, even in Flumm Ox. There's something about that game... Watching it again made me feel... warm. I really need to get my 360 fixed. The one game I miss playing the most, is Space Giraffe. Screw Halo and Burnout and Assassin's Creed. They're good games, I will replay them when I can, but most of all I want my giraffe back!
great show this. so good to see jeff who influenced the industry so much at the time. though his games were wierd, they were streets ahead in playablilty and stretched the machine so much compared to other software authors
@TheCrackbinge lol he loves them,, he once said on a coach of rockers "i would rater have an sheep than a woman " lol thinking back it was funny that the whole coach went silent

As much as I like Minter and his games (I had most of em on the Vic and c64) he really needs to accept that indie gaming is at a whole new level and in particular modding FPS games pretty much rule the roost in the indie PC arena.
Never-ending variants of tempest and defender just don't cut it.
Oops, sorry, I was signed in on my housemates login for that last post! hehehe.. I used to also see Jeff at the numerous PC shows, there with his bare feet and mum tagging along :) Such a great character, it's a shame he seems to be so shunned by the big corporate bastards nowadays tho :(
Nice to see Jeff Minter go over his career like that and give some insight towards his philosophy on game-making. I've wrapped Space Giraffe and the game is really good once you figure out how the game works.
Really enjoyed this talk, informative & entertaining, really glad people like Jeff are in the game industry with their own ideas & experiments they want to push forward and evolving gameplay & game creation into other avenues.
Great watch & really looking forward to playing Space Giraffe on Wednesday.

His point around 27 minutes about iterative game development is highly cogent and relevant.
It is one core reason why so many big games are 'joyless'.
