I love my '97 S320 LWB, specifically finding this year and engine deliberately. Tests run on the car Princess Diana and her mate died in (1995 S280 LWB) showed they would have easily survived the accident with NON-life threatening injuries, HAD THEY BEEN WEARING THEIR SEAT BELTS!!! The handling of the six cylinder S model w140's is superior to the V-8's, and the later S chassis, regardless of engine, up to current. After this W140 model, Chrysler took over...ARRGH!!!!!

Space,elegance,comfort,power,s­afety!(and reliabilty)not only was it engineered like no other car in the world,it was like no other car in the world in terms of sheer brilliance ,but, I have to agree with Sacco...as exceptional as it is at the start the glasshouse does look 4 inches too tall.Still,it's timeless and made in the BBE(before bug e)era which makes it one of the last true Mercedes-Benz.

Incidentally, I specifically sought out a 6cyl, LWB, W140, and found a mint one. I totally love this car and don't like the look of the newer ones(the CLS 4doors, in silver, really turn my head, though). They're either too Japanese looking up front, or big, bustle assed. This look is classic and timeless, and will never be mistaken for another car. I feel much safer in this one, as compared to later cars, the last of the real S-class, before Benz caught that virus called the Chrysler Corp.

Actually Princess Diana wore no seatbelt... if she had worn one she'd have survived. If the two passengers in the front survive, the rear seat passengers would have all things considered even.

It was crushed as it was designed to in order to compensate for solid concrete barrier it hit so that the crash force could be significantly lessened on the passengers.

No seatbelts = zero safety in a crash.

I have an LWB S320 1997. Princess Diana's was a '96. My understanding is that TUV and the French analyzed this car with the help of M-B. She and Fayed would have survived with serious but NON-life threatening injuries HAD they been wearing belts and sitting properly in the seat. The car folded just as it was supposed considering the offside head on impact. The driver, even belted would not have survived. The bodyguards' chances would have been 50/50...he DID survive, w/ permanent disabilitiies.

in the 90's we had this as a family car..dad crashed it...it was the best car i had ever set into...we have the newer version of this now. Its got everything that a high tech car now deems to have, but still theres always something missing...incomparable to what this Benz gave...not only an amazing car, but alot of childhood memories

Tja...Tut mir leid, dass dieses Auto schon lange nicht montiert wird. Bin mir sicher, würde es wieder produziert (vielleicht mit neuem Automobiltechnick usw.), so bekäme's noch neue anhänger von denjenigen, die sich heutzutage angesichts der durchgeknallten kantigen zu modernischen Designrichtungen der heutigen Autmodeln nix passendes finden...Hoffentlich wird uns Mercedes-Benz künftig noch so etwas vorstellen.

Wää bloß nicht. Endlich sehen die Autos etwas gleich, ich bin zwar absolut kein Merzedes Fan aber die jetzigen Merzedes sehen endlich einmal schlön aus. Futuristisch, modern, aber doch elegant.

Man kann nur hoffen, dass sie dieses hässliche 90er Jahre Design für immer gekübelt haben.

this vid brings back memories of my old 1994 S500. It was my first Mercedes and my one true treasure. It was the safest car ive ever owned and also the most reliable. What a tank-car. It looks ugly now but back then it was the best looking thing on the road hand downs. I will always remember this car :)

This car is great i have drive it but i dont owen it, i have drive 500S, and i have drive BMW 740IL, i think BMW more sporty and Daynamics, and better handiling,and i also found that mercedes 500s is more comfortable and silent, and the vibration level is alittel pit less than BMW, But mercedes W140 dosent have navigation system and TV screen,

like BMW, the accelration of both car is simler
