James Brown has a distinctive dance move, his is a feet slide backwards with a distinctive shuffle. This is also a part of the moonwalk origin, as many of the dancers like Bill Bailey did this James Brown move also.
This is a Moonwalk. Has anyone realised that why had Michael Jackson and others in entertainment not given true origins of this dance. Michael Jackson has said in countless interviews that his influence for the Moonwalk was from street dancing. There are numerous old black and white footage of other American dancers of the Bill Bailey era that did moonwalk style dancing. It is also a very distinctive move, that must have been known in these dance circles of entertainment.
I do agree that Yes, Michael Jackson refined ths dance better than anyone else, into a distinctive move, in which he moonwalks across an entire stage.

that wasnt even anything like a moonwalk come on ppl..... he is tap dancing and to me it just seems like he's walking backwards while tap dancing.... the moonwalks real name is the back slide... the moonwalk is another dance. back in the early 80's kids on the street were doing these dances (moonwalk & back slide) micheal saw the back slide and had a dancer by the name of jeffrey daniel teach it to him. but he some how ended up calling the back slide the moonwalk.. but it worked out in the end.

Thats where he got the idea for it because every new invention and dance comes from some past idea. Not saying ppl arent original, but it comes from something. So he saw ppl doing somethin like that and made it his own. He invented the Michael Jackson Moonwalk and made it mainstream.
@GiGiChante18 Sorry I love MJ to death but... if movement can be copyrighted. MJ would have infringed on the moonwalk's copyright. There is no such thing as him inventing his own. I have seen B-Boy break dancers in NYC grabbing their crotch and holding their head/ hats while doing the moonwalk before MJ did it. There wasn't even a 10% difference. I agree that MJ has taken it to the mainstream and that's it.

@GiGiChante18 - well, he did actually "steal" a couple moves from The Electric Boogaloos who he hired to teach him a lot of the stuff people think he invented, but the Moonwalk was one he learned from Mr. Freeze of The Rock Steady Crew. There was a scene in the 1983 film "Flashdance" of Mr. Freeze. MJ was definitely the man, a great dancer for sure, but I don't think he publically gave credit where credit was due.
@MosesHightower Michael Jackson always gave credit to those who inspired him. As for the dance moves I have seen many clips and read magazines where MJ gave credits to the "beautiful kids from the streets". When it comes to MJ, you really have to do the research as to what is factual and what is gossip.

its like this: in wrestling, Bret Hart did a sharpshooter then Sting did also the move. neither of them invented the move, they just made it famous.

Yes, the moonwalk was not invented by MJ in fact he was taught it by another dancer, but mike studied all great performers and did his best to live of to there expectation, not the expectation of his audience. so he looked back acts long before his time. a time when gifted artist were all over the place. people dont realise, just how commecial and fake everthing has become. I hate when ppl say Michael stole the moonwalk from other people. Of course the moonwalk, glide, whatever you wanna call it has been out for a while. Thats where he got the idea for it because every new invention and dance comes from some past idea. Not saying ppl arent original, but it comes from something. So he saw ppl doing somethin like that and made it his own. He invented the Michael Jackson Moonwalk and made it mainstream.

@GiGiChante18 Sorry I love MJ to death but... if movement can be copyrighted. MJ would have infringed on the moonwalk's copyright. There is no such thing as him inventing his own. I have seen B-Boy break dancers in NYC grabbing their crotch and holding their head/ hats while doing the moonwalk before MJ did it. There wasn't even a 10% difference. I agree that MJ has taken it to the mainstream and that's it.

I mean sure other people do stuff that looks like it almost exactly the same, but no one can do the Michael Jackson Moonwalk, but Michael Jackson. It may look the same, but trust me its not. Copyright isnt the issue, its inspiration and the movements will be different for everyone.

@GiGiChante18 - well, he did actually "steal" a couple moves from The Electric Boogaloos who he hired to teach him a lot of the stuff people think he invented, but the Moonwalk was one he learned from Mr. Freeze of The Rock Steady Crew. There was a scene in the 1983 film "Flashdance" of Mr. Freeze. MJ was definitely the man, a great dancer for sure, but I don't think he publically gave credit where credit was due.

MJ's only claim was that he loved 2 learn, old or new moves, no matter what style, etc.., he just loved dancing, period! Of course he developed his own thing, like ur supposed 2, but it's quite easy 2 see he was inspired/influenced from classical, 2 tap, 2 streets dancers, etc.., now please, Let the man R.I.P. !!

Yes, the moonwalk was not invented by MJ in fact he was taught it by another dancer, but mike studied all great performers and did his best to live of to there expectation, not the expectation of his audience. so he looked back acts long before his time. a time when gifted artist were all over the place. people dont realise, just how commecial and fake everthing has become. Mike was the LAST of a great hystory of american performers. hardly any exist today on that level.

MANY people did the moonwalk before Michael Jackson!! He just did it the best.... My father told me how it was just something dancers on the streets used to do, or in clubs. He was the first one to take it mainstream... many things start right in the ghetto and when its done it isn't knew to the world. Just knew to people not from the hood.... you'd be surprised how many things that are loved today that started right here on the streets

Michael always said he got the moonwalk from Black kids on the east coast. Did the children on the east coast see this film? Were they the relatives of the guy in the film? We don't know any of that sh*t and we don't need to. It's all connected in a beautiful and awesome way so just enjoy.

ok...a guy named JEFFREY DANIEL taught mj the moonwalk 3 yrs b4 mj 1st performed it at motown 25 in 1983...there's been interviews about it too...dunno where people keep getting the marcel marceau thing from or even thinking that mj was the one who creatd it...sum people.......

It was Adalberto "Resortes" Martinez who FIRST created the moonwalk!!!...Mike and this guy didn't steal it, they just improved it when they did it later.
