I am FULL aboriginal; this is amazing that only in times of turmoil will out people come together. Had our aboriginal government leaders had the actual power, this 'HST' would not have even made it to legislation. HST should have been stopped long ago, why now, where was Beaucage then? Where was Aboriginal Senator Patrick Brazeau then? These are the leaders wanting a stop to the Indian Act altogether. LISTEN TO YOUR LEADERS PEOPLE.
This is only the START of the walls that come tumbling down for Native rights in Canada. Slowly the treaty pages are starting to be ripped apart at the seams. Native rights are slowly falling away.
Time for truth to be told. I am ashamed of the way the First Nation people have been treated by successive governments. There is NO EXCUSE for it. Period! I am one of the low income persons who will also be hurt by this unfair tax burden. I stand with you!
I am a Ontarian on ODSP and guess what? This white gal stands with you!! That HST places an UNFAIR tax burden on yourselves, and every low income person in the Province.
This Hst is The Same stance of Trick they used with us when they Threw Churches and Residential Schools in to our Communities, they put it there for us to Adapt to, and to slowly take it in to pay. Here in New brunswick... We dont pay tax, on Reserve, and thats it, off reserve/territory, We have to pay Delivery to Recieve Tax Free Items.. . if Hst happens in ontario,, the Same will happen to your Community, Say no t HST
When the time comes to draw the lines in the sands of Northeastern Ontario we will be ready to stand tall and proud. I am a member of Matachewan First Nation and waiting for the signal.
I also have to pay the extra taxes, and am not happy about HST, but is there not a more peacful way to protest rather than blocking traffic? Many of the people being blocked from going to work or running an errand are also against HST, so why make them suffer? This is not asked out of disrespect in any way. I just honestly thiink more people would lend an ear of they weren't caught in the crossfire like this. We need to learn how to co-exist.
I think this is an important point that warrants discussion. The Government continues to get away with dictatorship while citizens point fingers at each other- yes, people were inconvenienced- but First Nations people have nothing left to lose. We have given so much and when we decide to protest in an effort to protect what little we have left- Cdns focus on inconveniences and not on the criminal actions of govt. It was not our intention to get public support- it was a way to create awareness.

I know very little about the treaties in question, so I cannot give you my honest opinion on the situation. I do, however, intend on reading a few things to learn a bit more. So I guess in a way, you have succeeded in raising awareness, as I am deeply interested. I look forward to further discussion.
