  • Nice video, I must try that crop mode on a 500mm lens.

    Thanks

  • wow amazing

  • Uhm...i did the same test using a 75-300mm lens but i didnt get the same great results like you, I used crop + 300 (and i knew about the crop factor but still)

  • this is really cool !

  • What about the shutter speed?

  • @Cuajinice Shutter speed or frame rate?

  • @dbjunction Shutter spped

  • Amazing. I need to try this. One question - did you keep everything auto, or were there certain settings you had to make to capture the moon so clearly? Thanks.

  • hey m8 have you turned of the image stablelizer? The moon seams so hot i meen you can see heatwaves there or whatever that is :D. I have btw also taken some footage of the moon with a 135mm and crop mode<<.

  • /watch?v=nSpGY3mFoXA

  • @DKruns I had switched off the image stabilization because the camera was on a tripod and IS was adding a little extra vibration to the whole setup.

  • FAKE

  • @ZigZegTv What - the moon ?? :)

  • t1i has crop mode?

  • @blackorwhiite No, as far as I know.

  • @blackorwhiite YES, 7D, t2i, 60D all are 1.6 crop factor sensor. 5D is 1.0 full sensor and 1DM4 is 1.3. ...35mm film cameras are 2.0 crop. so it really comes LENS...btw...this vid looks good for a$200 lens.

  • Very nice, you can see a shadow something like a satellite from 2:18 to 2:20.

  • @dobledeldemente There are a couple of more instances where these UFOs are seen if you look carefully.

  • Where can i find Crop mode? i couldn't find ir on the menue :(

  • Hello @javavan100 you need to put the dial in movie mode, then press menu, and in movie rec.size press set.

It will show you all the resolutions, and select the one that say crop 640,60.

  • @ramfery23 Oh :O Thanks :D

  • Is it possible to take pictures in this mode? Or how do people take real close up shots of the moon. Wonderful footage! Moon is so beautiful.x

  • Hello @StephyWiggins unfortunately you can't take pictures wile in crop mode.

The camera is 18 MP, they zoom in in the picture and cut it will be the same as crop the image.

  • how do you crop?

  • how does this lens compare to canon 75-300mm?

  • @ncs2000 I have not used that lens but from what I have heard, this lens is much better.

  • how long did it take to record this?

how much is the maximum memory card you can use? i thought it was 16gb, that in full HD is pretty limited in time...

  • @mynmyself Around 5min - it's in real time. I use a 16gb card but this is not HD - it's in crop mode.

  • 2:30 ALIENS!!!

  • Is this croped? My 55-250mm lens doesnt zoom this far!

  • @Saggmos95 Yes it is - as i mention in the video details.

  • this is awesome. i'm about to get the same camera with the same lens, so i have two questions for you.

first of all would you recommend this camera?

also, does this function well in low-light conditions? i would be using it sometimes for shooting @ high school musicals with no flash. would it work well or should i consider another lens?

  • @jonasobsessed5295 : To answer your first question, the camera is awesome and has great iso performance (good for low light). Lens however is a slower lens - it will not help in low light, no flash conditions. For your purpose, you will need a faster lens like Sigma 30mm 1.4 (I have it) or Canon 85mm 1.8 (depends on how far you will be and how wide you want to go). This is a great zoom lens if your budget is not too high.

  • @jonasobsessed5295

Buy the T3i! I recently bought a T2i... i didnt knew that a new one would be comming out =(

  • amazing and the UFO at 2.33 looks like a satelite but doesn't seem to orbit round the moon? amazing capture and just shows what a 550d can do

  • @peregrinestudio ..doesnt seem to orbit round the moon...and that shocks you... this is a joke right?

  • Is at 250mm ? Or you use something more ?

  • @daugathierry Just 250mm but using crop mode which gives me 2800mm of effective zoom.

  • @dbjunction Hi, How do you use the crop mode? Is it build into the camera or you do it on your computer?

  • @HashimChaudhry Crop mode is available in the menu system of Canon T2i and perhaps some of the newer models like T3i and 60D (not sure). It basically uses the 18mp sensor of the camera to zoom in further into the video - a clever hack from Canon I would say.

  • @dbjunction you can do this in T3 as well although video quality is not as good as what you got. Excellent video.

  • Also, can the crop mode be also used in picture taking

  • nice vid man

  • sorry i am a noob, but can you get this much zoom using still imagery?

  • what is this thing at the 2:33. interesting...

  • @haryigit looks like an airplane....

  • ive got the same lens but never managed to zoom in to the moon with so much clarity. Have any tricks up your sleve?

  • @humanizr: Tricks, well you bet there is one. The video has been taken in crop mode which basically multiplies the focal length by a factor of 7.1. Have you tried that option? It is only available in T2i (550d).

  • @dbjunction i have a t2i and am fixing to get this lens. how do i take a video in crop mode?

  • @CellphoneTL Well there is direct option to go to crop mode in the video menu of t2i.

  • awesome!

  • Thanks for the sample. Would this be the same resolution as if you took a still at 18mp and cropped to the same size?

  • @ArcanePath360 : Not really. The camera offers highest video resolution of 1080p which is about 2 megapixels in still format. This one is not even 1080p resolution - more like VGA. I have take some equivalent crop photos of the moon with this camera. You can take a look at them here:

flickr dot com/dbjunction under "Moon Shots" set.

  • @dbjunction Nice shots, the Moon does look a bit sharper in your stills, probably due to longer shutter times I'm guessing. I may yet get this camera and lens (maybe in the January sales) - Thanks

  • KOOL

  • WOW!

  • wow! thats a perfectly clear picture. impressive.

  • awesome
