Uhm...i did the same test using a 75-300mm lens but i didnt get the same great results like you, I used crop + 300 (and i knew about the crop factor but still)
hey im new @ photography and would like to show some of what ive done and learn with your feed backs, please chek out my channel, give me your opinion and subscrive if you like , ill do the same, thank you, you will find me as nesiebella, thank you once again!!! :)
Amazing. I need to try this. One question - did you keep everything auto, or were there certain settings you had to make to capture the moon so clearly? Thanks.
hey m8 have you turned of the image stablelizer? The moon seams so hot i meen you can see heatwaves there or whatever that is :D. I have btw also taken some footage of the moon with a 135mm and crop mode<<.
@blackorwhiite YES, 7D, t2i, 60D all are 1.6 crop factor sensor. 5D is 1.0 full sensor and 1DM4 is 1.3. ...35mm film cameras are 2.0 crop. so it really comes LENS...btw...this vid looks good for a$200 lens.
this is awesome. i'm about to get the same camera with the same lens, so i have two questions for you.
first of all would you recommend this camera?
also, does this function well in low-light conditions? i would be using it sometimes for shooting @ high school musicals with no flash. would it work well or should i consider another lens?
@jonasobsessed5295 : To answer your first question, the camera is awesome and has great iso performance (good for low light). Lens however is a slower lens - it will not help in low light, no flash conditions. For your purpose, you will need a faster lens like Sigma 30mm 1.4 (I have it) or Canon 85mm 1.8 (depends on how far you will be and how wide you want to go). This is a great zoom lens if your budget is not too high.
@HashimChaudhry Crop mode is available in the menu system of Canon T2i and perhaps some of the newer models like T3i and 60D (not sure). It basically uses the 18mp sensor of the camera to zoom in further into the video - a clever hack from Canon I would say.
@humanizr: Tricks, well you bet there is one. The video has been taken in crop mode which basically multiplies the focal length by a factor of 7.1. Have you tried that option? It is only available in T2i (550d).
@ArcanePath360 : Not really. The camera offers highest video resolution of 1080p which is about 2 megapixels in still format. This one is not even 1080p resolution - more like VGA. I have take some equivalent crop photos of the moon with this camera. You can take a look at them here:
@dbjunction Nice shots, the Moon does look a bit sharper in your stills, probably due to longer shutter times I'm guessing. I may yet get this camera and lens (maybe in the January sales) - Thanks

@DKruns I had switched off the image stabilization because the camera was on a tripod and IS was adding a little extra vibration to the whole setup.

Very nice, you can see a shadow something like a satellite from 2:18 to 2:20.

@dobledeldemente There are a couple of more instances where these UFOs are seen if you look carefully.

javavan100 8 months ago
Hello @javavan100 you need to put the dial in movie mode, then press menu, and in movie rec.size press set.
It will show you all the resolutions, and select the one that say crop 640,60.

Hello @StephyWiggins unfortunately you can't take pictures wile in crop mode.

how long did it take to record this?
how much is the maximum memory card you can use? i thought it was 16gb, that in full HD is pretty limited in time...
mynmyself 11 months ago
@mynmyself Around 5min - it's in real time. I use a 16gb card but this is not HD - it's in crop mode.
