God, you people sound like a bunch of snobs. This guy, like Aphex, put out whatever they want whenever they want. They dont care about the fan base. Also, remember this isnt entirely Squarepusher. This is Shobaleader One. A collaboration album. But who cares. I still listen to it because it's good music.
even though it doesn't feel new to me, this, it seems like he's still pushing the envelope of his usual instrumentation and effectuation. it still feels like it has a fresh vinagre of pure funky harmony poured over it =)
This is just ok...'Go Plastic' is his finest work the whole album is genius! but this album aint great lets be honest. he's still a legend in my eyes but i cant help thinking he's lost his edge abit...maybe its an age thing
I think Go plastic was a big "show-off" album. for him personally. I love that album too. I think here. He is maybe more just enjoying new things? not worrying so much about impressing? all his other albums have a lot of work put into it too and are just as fierce as Go plastic. These albums you could definetly hear and not be able to guess that Tom is in there.
Cant beat 'Go Plastic'....this is just alright. He is still a legend in my eyes but i cant help thinking he's loosing his edge abit...maybe its an age thing
@MailSivad Not really. Kinda sounds like Herbie Hancock and Weather Report from the late 70's (who I'm sure are major influences) but slightly less cheesy, and no horns. This is totally contemoporary. That "jazz" from the 70's era... now much of that is ahead of it's time, by about 40 years.
i cant believe Squarepusher isnt making music that suits me....how dare he....just who does he think he is.....its all about me...me me me meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
@kurtchircop I completely agree with you, people get too fussy when their favorite artist starts to experiment. I love it when he just goes and pulls something completely different than he's done before. This shit's funky.
@Heliosphan15 well, probably because they don't know what's on the mind of the artist and the artist also don't give fuck about the opinion of their fans and for me the artist is the first and the last critic of his own work!!! i love Squarepusher
I'm actually quite surprised I find I prefer the Mr Oizo mix over the original even if it is a bit raucous. Original's not bad but it doesn't make me jizz in my pants like his older stuff...
You people can bitch and bitch because it's not skittery, fast-tempo breakbeat music, but hasn't he done his fair share of that already? This track is laid back, but it's funky as hell and I love the retro sound he always keeps with his synths.
squarepusher seems to be using shitty samples, bad mixing and terrible sound design in his recent stuff
this has no ambience at all, which is something he knows how to create better than anyone else. maybe he's following some spergy rules about doing the opposite of what he used to do or something...
I don't know if it's to be different or to piss people off, but he should really use compressors and reverb again.
@LimpBizkitFan4Lyf do you really he think he didnt use reverb or compressing on the album. Im not kiddin when i say eveything is compressed you hear over most of our mediums here.
This is song is plain sick and i thought the radio version was good. This one has goes on and gives me the same chills tunes like first hearing tundra or whatever
@mannotaurable You're comparing this to Tundra? What the fuck? This is just him trying his best not to be pressured into making something good for ed banger and "having a laugh" instead of putting any effort in.
@mancubus22 hahaha! you must not listen to any electronic music... try autechre, aphex, alva not, old squarepusher, BOC, edIT... really anything but this
@stethoscanomaly are you confusing production value with genre? Yeh this isn't the crazy breakbeat stuff that made squarepusher famous, but the production value is still very good.
@Cinefixia haha um yeah right. listen to squarepusher from 90s- early 2000s, its lightyears ahead of this boring dance stuff. this could have been produced in the 70s. Oh how i remember the days when squarepusher was good: Go Plastic!, exploding psychology, greenways trajectory... this just sounds like some tired daft punk imitation. what a shame
@stethoscanomaly yeah, yeah i had been a big fan of squarepusher since his early years, the thing is that i find this song extremely sweet, its true that the voice is quite boring or very similar to kavinsky's night call style. but the instrumental, in my opinion, is just sublime.
God, you people sound like a bunch of snobs. This guy, like Aphex, put out whatever they want whenever they want. They dont care about the fan base. Also, remember this isnt entirely Squarepusher. squareman from the ol;d days great and influenced a lot of artists... one of my favourite ever tracks is his wish you could talk...makes me orgasm
but i like his last albums.... shows his true skill at bass playing...
i think the ability to manage to do alot of styles in music is wonderful and makes me eager what he will put out next :)
