mega cd/ sega cd version 1 ( front loader) miles better then the Mega cd/ sega cd 2 was
I had a UK spec mega cd 1 and an asian mega drive ( jap look pal output) i managed to make it switch between 50 hz( pall bordered screen pic) and 60hz full screen the UK Mega CD didnt like 60hz so by turning on the console in 50hz and hearing a click on the mega cd you could then turn it to 60hz anbd play sega cd games in full screen PUKKA
I remember how elite I felt when I got the 32X add-on which created what many remember to be the most gargantuan game console ever. Where to put all the damn power adapters!!
The sad thing is I love the background music on this thing, but I never owned a Mega Drive/Mega CD as a child, the first video game system I ever owned was an Atari Lynx and that was in 1996. Man I love this music, I'd love to get a MultiMega, but they're not cheap.
has anyone else noticed the similarities between the music for the Mega CD and the game After Burner? I just noticed myself. My question is was it on purpose or accident?
This was the most amasing thing I found out about my Mega CD.
You dont get catchy tunes like that built into the consoles anymore, whats more remarkeble is the graphics as well. This and the sega saturn space ship cd palyer in ROM.
Yeah, what's even worse is that all the good ones are assssssss expensive now, like Snatcher, Shining Force CD, etc. At least it had more good games than that "32X" Sega calls a system of their own :)
Yes it does. Music was changed for the USA versions of Mark 1 and Mark 2 Mega CD's . SEGA America even made the CD menu screen look far worse on the Mark 1 Mega CD while they were at it :(
The JVC X'Eye (Wondermega in Japan and never released in Europe) made it to the US and the background and the logos were changed; however the original Mega-CD music was intact.
still better than ps3 n 360 :P

@greyhoundgill
The disk tray was for Version 1.00.
The lid is for 2.00.

The reason the movements go well with the music is because they're synchronized with it.
Did you ever notice how the logos just sit there doing nothing for long periods of time? They're actually wating for a certain music que.

VHS has no grain. It has electronic video noise.
porcorosso81 1 year ago
SoE do fuck all but at least they don't mess around with games and ruin them like SoA sometimes do.
Apart from Shinobi X when they Richard Jacques did a new soundtrack for it, but he did do it in the style of Yuzo Koshiro so I guess it was good.
CornishCreamtea07 2 years ago
Isn't VHS all grainy? This looks like DVD quality running throuch composite video.
mattsprinter 2 years ago
@mattsprinter VHS isn't grainy as such. Grain tends to be very fine and resides in the high frequencies. VHS is more mushy and noisy than grainy.
lyris1 2 years ago
@lyris1, it's actually all 3. I had vhs and a SEGA system. The SEGA pic isn't nearly as bad as VHS.
mattsprinter 2 years ago
Yeah, VHS is pretty much bottom of the pile.
lyris1 2 years ago
Especially when it's played on 'EP' the lowest tape speed. If it were played as fast as it fast-forwarded, the picture would be great.

Same, we only had the Megadrive on itself. We never had one either and I've still been trying to one.

this music is very awesome, but the us one is sooo irritating, and the logo movements actually go well with the music in britan.

Why is Europe in the background on the Mega CD?
Kargaroc286 4 years ago
The Sega CD is called "Mega CD" there. Maybe that's why.
(I believe the name "Mega CD" was also used in Japan as well)

Because this is the European Startup.

sapphiresanchez 4 years ago
they call it mega cd first in 1991 but why does america call it sega cd like megadrive
os2005 4 years ago
Because in America, the Megadrive is called the Sega Genesis.
SegaMegadriveMic 4 years ago
copyright issues with the "Mega Drive" name hence the Genesis, and Mega Cd would no longer be a matching name for the system, so Sega Cd it was.
lostboy626 4 years ago
I actually looked it up, the name Mega Drive is owned by some bicycle company. Weird...
kfcjpo 4 years ago 2
So rare....haven't seen that before....too bad SOA had to call it Sega CD, not 'Mega' at all...
