The only parts which you could call useful that stay on a banger are the running gear and panels, and even after racing, a large percentage of the running gear is still useable.

Most (some) Banger drivers advertise the parts removed from the cars on the specialist websites etc so the useful stuff can be recycled and it also helps put a few quid towards racing.
why do people do this to classics why not use modern cars oh sorry they cant do that they will not be able walk after the crash classics are stronger please use escorts or mondeos please as the parts are hard to find now
Most modern cars are destroyed, or at least undrivable after anything more than a minor shunt due to the crumple zones. Plus to prep a car for a race you need to remove as much stuff as possible for lightness and to prevent fires. Pulling apart a modern car is difficult because of all the electronic stuff. Classics are stronger but I'd sooner be in a crash in a modern car than any of my three pre-'72 classic cars
what a shame?, get a clue, scrap cars are a blot on our landscape. We the banger racers do the country a favour by removing all the crap. All material raced is recycled to make new stuff, you've all seen the can recycle advert. Without racing, much of todays steel would have to be processed rather than re-used.
Nothing gives the "fan" more enjoyment than seeing 50-100 old fucked cars take part in the "biggest and best" send-off you could imagine.
It is racing u knob you are still driving around a track at speed over taking other cars etc. I bet if you had a go you would be hooked!! The guys that race are just in it to have a laugh and some fun. Give it a try and then tell us what you think of it.

For us, Triumph lovers, its frustrating and sad to watch, BUT I don't think any 70s and 80s cars deserve this, be they Fords or Triumphs, as they all have there respective enthusiasts, who'd feel just how we do when we watch that.
It's miserable entertainment for ignorant and simple minds and its also rude to those who spent years assembling these cars with pride and dedication.

They didn't put these cars together with pride!! They stood on an assembly line all day long how boring would that be. They wouldn't of done it with pride. It's funny that people like you complain about this but you don't say shit to someones face who actually competes in the sport. Why don't you go on a save all 70's and 80's car saving spree. Cars were made to be driven, not to be in someones shed for 200 years. Im sure you are wasteful with something you do in life

They tried to convince me to have a go and 'sell it' to me on how little preperation is required!! I find it dull I'm afriad.

I'm a classic car enthusiast, I own a Triumph 2000 and a P6 but I don't especially object to this on the grounds that most of these cars are so rotten they would be crushed anyway. I've bought parts from banger racers before. I visited Swaffham banger track more than 50 times when I lived in Lincoln and less than 1% of the cars there were easily restorable before the race. Many were fire damaged. And what's so bad about 70's Fords that they CAN be raced and destroyed while 1960's cars can't?
Whilst it's a gruesome spectacle when you think of what MIGHT have been lost, if you don't want cars to end up this way then buy them yourself and restore them! I've saved enough cars over the years but I can't do each and every one! Most banger racers I know have a conscience, and not one based around money - anything good is kept or sold, and although the cars look tidy on the track, before they are given a paintjob they certainly are not!
if you dont like banger racing dont watch the videos, and dont bother commenting, simple as!!! it is a much loved sport by many. just because you dont like it doesnt mean that u have the right to call banger racers wankers, pikeys and all the rest!
I has a 2.5PI and it rusted itself to bits. It may well be amongst that lot. The thing is, a 2000 can easily rust requiring 1000s of pounds of weldin only to be worth 1500 quid tops. It is a shame that so many here are getting trashed but there's every chance that they were rot boxes and there are a hell of a lot of people who are enthusiastic about these cars and restore them. Still, I'd rather they were Marinas.
