I have terrible speech at time.. I had Adhd all my life. Why does Cannabis helps me? I never like side effect of my medications doctors gave me. Cannabis just calm me down and help with my depression. My thoughts slow down but not my body when i used Cannabis. Do you think it a crime to used Cannabis? Dr. I feel i would done better as a child if they gave marijuana instead of those pills. I m much older now.. i been very misunderstood and confuse as a child to teens.
Not really.. I got ADHD too but I can still think logically. Yes you can't control some impulses and all of that shit but.. If you're raised a certain way you can still just function like anyone else really. You just need to try a lot harder to do so then people without ADHD have to
@eL3ctr1c4L --one would, regardless if one could not get therapy or medication, reparent themselves. use gratification techniques, rewards, punishments. treat one's self like a puppy. put posters of goals and tasks on the wall. use an agenda and a cell phone with multiple alarms. have other people aid you if they will. if you keep a job well, pay people to take on aspects of responsibility. create routines. this is your life. there are no rules for how you get some of these functions going.

sounds like this doctor is trying to convince parents that if they don't take their children's ADHD seriously, then they will not have these executive functions. what can i do about it if i am an adult with adhd and don't believe in stimulants.
@tomhuynh77 Sounds to me like he's saying that the executive functions are impaired in people with ADHD, and that those functions are required for optimal functioning as an adult. I don't think he's saying that a parent's actions will have any impact at all on a child's development of those functions (at least not in this video).
I'm an adult with ADHD and I've tried with and without stimulants.
With them, I have choices about my actions. Even then, it takes practice.
@tomhuynh77 if your issue is with stimulant medication specifically, then there are natural supplements that apparently work decently well. I haven't researched them myself, but it may be worth your while. Presumably they affect the brain in similar fashions to medications though, so you will have to consider what it is you are truly opposed to. Otherwise, there are cognitive and behavioural therapies that may help, but you would have to look into that yourself.
This was an excellent video. The 5 mental facilties you mention, I notice, are lacking in my mind. Not all of them, but quite a few. I believe strongly that I have ADD and am just beginning to figure it out. I've got a Dr. recommended therapist that I've scheduled an appointment with. I pray that I can finally manage this disability.
