Strange, beautiful, ethereal. And yes, at times utterly baffling. But a brilliant film nonetheless. Certainly one of my favorites. Pity the restored version hasn't been released in the States yet. I should buy a multi-region DVD player. The U.K. gets all the cool sh*t. :-)
@viviadiesdreaming Restored UK DVD from Second Run is all regions, so that's not a problem, though it's also 576p/PAL which might be.
And, um, HOUSE on Blu-ray Disc and cinema release, Paranoia Agent uncut, Cat Soup, Tôei Dôga features from Discotek and restored Max Ophüls from Criterion just to name a few region 1 or A-locked examples. Though, the added resolution of PAL and TVs and players' near-default compatibility with NTSC as well are on the other hand definitely advantages.
Have you seen "The Company of Wolves"? It was heavily influenced by Valerie and her Week of Wonders. The Czechs are reponsible for some of the greatest films ever released. Your right, the soundtrack is amazing. I`d love to own it, but I don`t think it`s available on C.D. :(
