I was very wary of watching any of Zac Efron's films, simply because every time I heard his name, I thought of High School Musical. He's actually a really good actor, though!

I just watched this because of Richard Linklater and this was his first misstep. What a piece of monotonous dung! It's a stinker! Nothing happens, nothing! "Junior" overacts on almost all of his scenes. Christian McKay does his job but nobody can save the script. This is a poorly written bad idea. From the title, I thought this was going to be in the style of "Julie & Julia", present and past which would have suited Linklater's direction style. This a 90's idea that should have been left there.
Perhaps it would have been better if directed by Michael Bay? Throw in some explosions, maybe a few aerial stunts and a leading lady with cleavage coming up to her chin? I suppose that type of movie has its place....and its fans, like you.

Just watched it at a movie theater and loved it. Funny dialogues. The way many characters pissed each other off with their colossal egos ... marvellous. :-D The acting was great.
McKay is the star of this picture. He steals every scene he is in.as Orson Welles. Richard Linkater and Christopher Nolan are two of the best directors working today.

Besides the fact that this was one great freaking movie & Claire Danes was so good it hurts, the question remains, was Orson Wells on speed? He was 23 at the time & it could have been all his energy... but I doubt it b/c it never is. Street drugs, alcohol, pills, steroids, especially steroids today are able to push talented ppl ahead of the competition. Brando, Wells, Coward, great writers, painters etc.
Some people are saying that he looks proffesional now, and that he isn't just another disney figure. But I mean, if you're so young, would you play in a kinda like 'grown up' movie? Theres this cool little theatre in my town that plays indie films, stuff like this. We go there every weekend (or at least try to), and i kept begging my parents to go see it! never got the chance :(
I like the way they show that Welles was such a force-of-nature; that he is the center of the movie, even though he is not the film's central character. It's about what it would be like to be stuck in the orbit of his genius.
Christian McKay is so good as Orson Welles, it's scary. Okay, yes, Welles is supposed to be about 22 in this movie; but that's trivial when you consider McKay nails every nuance of Welles' personality.

Ugh. McKay's Welles impression (it's no more than an impression) is pretty good, but honestly... This may suffice as theatre porn for wannabe thespians, or as teeny-bopper romance for the Efron crowd, but what does it really have to do with the art of Orson Welles? Is it actually a tribute to the art, or does it just use Welles' personality to make itself interesting?
Maybe not...but the younger generation seems to have found him. It was inevitable that they raise him up again. There will never be another man like Welles - ever and a new generation wants to be taught by him. It Says a lot after he's been dead for 25 years.
The actor playing Welles looks like him & has his physical & vocal mannerisms down nicely. But Welles was 23 at the time, not 35! Every movie thus far depicting Welles's early career has cast him 10 years too old...and thereby some of the magic of Welles's amazing story is lost. 23! Does it make a difference? Remember yourself at 23? His "boy wonder"-ness was one of the reasons Welles was a once-in-a-century figure! (Movie looks good though, and anything that keeps Orson's memory alive is OK!)

I like the way they show that Welles was such a force-of-nature; that he is the center of the movie, even though he is not the film's central character. It's about what it would be like to be stuck in the orbit of his genius.

Christian McKay is so good as Orson Welles, it's scary. Okay, yes, Welles is supposed to be about 22 in this movie; but that's trivial when you consider McKay nails every nuance of Welles' personality.

i'm impressed to see zac efron in a movie like this. he certainly needs a sort of role like this to show audiences that he is not just another teeny-bopper. the movie seriously looks good

Ugh. McKay's Welles impression (it's no more than an impression) is pretty good, but honestly... This may suffice as theatre porn for wannabe thespians, or as teeny-bopper romance for the Efron crowd, but what does it really have to do with the art of Orson Welles? Is it actually a tribute to the art, or does it just use Welles' personality to make itself interesting?

Maybe not...but the younger generation seems to have found him. It was inevitable that they raise him up again. There will never be another man like Welles - ever and a new generation wants to be taught by him. It Says a lot after he's been dead for 25 years.

The actor playing Welles looks like him & has his physical & vocal mannerisms down nicely. But Welles was 23 at the time, not 35! Every movie thus far depicting Welles's early career has cast him 10 years too old...and thereby some of the magic of Welles's amazing story is lost. 23! Does it make a difference? Remember yourself at 23? His "boy wonder"-ness was one of the reasons Welles was a once-in-a-century figure! (Movie looks good though, and anything that keeps Orson's memory alive is OK!)

My gosh i think this looks like an actual good movie! lol did not expect that but i need help!!! Please someone help me what the music is starting around 0:52 and I believe it runs the rest of the trailer (except for the timpani roll and it changes key around 1:37.... please help this is an amazing musical piece which helps make the trailer as good as it is.
