  • Love the Hammond riffs....

  • Reminds me of Nam, that's because they took my brother away....

  • the music of the 60's was fucking amazing! There will never be another one like it.

  • Nice... Thanks 4/posting... takes me back

  • You're welcome, chubbie1954-san!!

    Otaku3 (^_^)/

  • Reminds me of High School years, love this song, not High School.

  • You're welcome, TravellerFellow-san!!

  • Well I just read on their website about the group so this was a rumor about the band being killed. I guess they must've got them mixed up with the Barkays who many members died when singer Otis Redding's plane went down killing Oits as well. Glad that they band is still continuing with their music. I feel much better this story I heard many years ago is not true.

  • We use to love this song when it came out in I believe 1967 or 68. I learned that these guys were killed in an accident so I am not sure how many died or lived. But I was shocked because this song was hot back in the day. We also thought they were black but later learned they weren't. They sure had some soul.

  • Didn't Randy Meisner of the Eagles play bass for this group and on this track...

  • That rock band where Randy Meisner was is not the same as this group.

    Otaku3 (^_^;)

  • @footshaman Gamble and huffs first hit song

  • Here it is finally, after more than 30 years of trying to figure out what this song was that I have been playing it in my head..... Thanks to Linda Henderson who figured out for me and she is my Hero today. Thank you for posting it

  • You're welcome, TheTPS01-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^_^)/

  • GREAT SONG bg

  • Energy radicalism feeling is what really transpires this song, but the fucking stars of today do not have any wild radical view to express. These were the 60s and 70s, the rest with some exceptions is shit that record companies sponsored to create executives yhat lost the perspective into evolution of music,

  • Felix was never in the soul suriviors. In 1967, when Expressway to your heart by the soul survivors came out ---Felix and the Rascals were at the top of their fame. At this time in 1967, Groovin' was riding high at NO. 1 in the US charts for the Rascals.

  • Is the guy on the far right Uncle Jessie from Full House ??? HAVE MERCY !!!!!!!

  • @rendog17 LMAO!! oh my friggin geeezz!! Thank you so much. I needed a laugh. IM actually snortin and gettin teary eyed! xx Merry Xmassssss

    Otaku3 (*^o^)/

  • Geez I was only 1 yrs. old when this came out, but somehow I remember hearing this....I love this song....Didn't another group sample this music in the same era...?

  • ...Remember playing this on my Akai m9 eight inch reel 2 reel...

..in Nam,1968...really loud...The LT said turn that shit down...

.So I played Whiter shade of Pale even Louder...Ha ha...

  • @fatbowe Thank you for your sacrifice and service over there in 'Nam, sir. God Bless joel in tucson

  • The Lead Singer Of The Soul Survivors Became The Lead Singer Of The Young Rascals. His Name Is Felix Calvieri

  • There is no members who transferred from this group to the Young Rascals...

    Otaku3 (^_^;)

  • @60otaku3 Yeah, I don't think it's Felix either. The old chair that the guy is in is identical to the chair from the one-room-schoolhouse in Nebraska that my late father sat on. He nabbed it prior to the school being torn down in the 60's. He sat on it in school during the 1930's. Total school enrollment...about 20 kids. Out in the middle of Boone County Nebr. He passed it onto me and I'm so lucky to have it. But...who cares in here? lol. I just saw that seat on the album cover and spoke up.

  • @Roberto56Cooks Felix Cavalieri was with the Young Rascals from at least 1963 - and before that he was a member of Joey Dee's Starliters (famous for the Peppermint Twist). He's still going strong. I saw him with "the Rascals" here in Las Vegas about two or three years ago.

  • @Roberto56Cooks Man the Rascals had been around for 2 or 3 years before these dudes. The Rascals had hits that same year, look it up on wiiki.

  • years ago I thought this was a Young Rascals song lol

  • I thought they were black? OMG!

  • I remember this song from Adventures in Babysitting!

  • We used to Shing-a-ling all night to this song . Please, don't let nobody have some Silver satin and Kool-Aid!! Those were the days.

  • I used to thnk ths was the Righteous Brothers.

  • Wow.. up until this very point (this is the first time I've ever bothered to look them up), I thought they were a black group!

  • @IAmPlaysWithSquirrel That makes two of us!!!!! The lead singer definitely sounds black. Great tune!!!

  • sandralawson18,

Because your comment had nothing to do with this song, I deleted it and also blocked your account.

    60otaku3

  • THIS WAS THE SHIT !!!!!!!!!!

  • The Lead Singer Of This Group Went On To Become The Singer For The Young Rascals Fame

  • @Roberto56Cooks Sorry, but no one in this band was ever in the young rascals, though they do sound almost identical

  • Blows my mind that it was 1967! Timeless, and still hitting it!

  • i was 3 when this song came out.. remembered it being played.. when i became of age i searched high and low..finally found it in 2000..thanks for posting it..(my CD got damaged)

  • You're welcome, looksrdeceivn-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^_^)/

  • @japinvt. ------I believe 2 of these guys who were brothers were from Philly. Richie and Charlie Ingui I think were their names. The song was written and produced by Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff who are from Philly also.

  • @77cobaltblue In fact, this was their first major hit. Of course, they really hit their stride in the 1970's when they hooked up with the O'Jays and the rest of the big acts from Philly.

  • Some serious blue eyed soul, saw them in person bitd, great group

  • Wow, I didn't know until two minutes ago that this was a white soul group. That album cover popping up kinda threw me for one. Not bad, just changes what I've pictured for like 15 years, haha. I grew up on KRTH 101 and always pictured an artist like Sam & Dave or Wilson Pickett here. Yeah, they do sound *a lot* like The Rascals, too. "Lonely Too Long" brought the same image actually. I did picture a white group for "Groovin'" and "Good Lovin'", though. Same with "The Letter" by the Boxtops.

  • These guys are Philly, right? I was 7 when this came out. It sounded tough and dangerous. The two guys seated in the front of the picture, I can clearly recall seeing a small group of guys dressed like that except with black leather coats and they were all smoking cigarettes as they walked toward the school. They looked so cool. Definitely some serious bad boys.

  • There was just something in the air back then that's absent today.

Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King were both still alive. In spite of the war things looked hopeful.

  • Great song written and produced by Gamble and Huff from Philly

  • This is one of those great songs that doesn't have to do a thing to put a smile on your face! I don't care where I hear it, when I hear it, I just smile!!!

  • Just one of Gamble & Huff early materpieces. Great song.

  • I was 15 and bought the 45 of this when it came out...an added bonus is that the B side is a killer cover of Donovan's 'Hey Gyp"...

  • I first heard this band at Billy Richie's Bar in Crum Lynn just outside of Philly when they first sang this song and the bar went crazy, they sang this song over and over many times. Shame they couldn't get the fame they deserved.

    the Frenchy

  • Wow. When I first heard this song, I thought it was a black dude singing

  • @alondraw Same here. Totally sounds like a black vocalist. I kept trying to find this song and was typing in all these black artists/bands to no avail. Then,i saw the movie "Adventures in babysitting" and heard that blues band cover this tune and i promptly went on imdb and looked up the soundtrack list from that flick, type in a few different songs(didnt even know the name of this song lol),and finally i find it and see that its done by whites and i'm all "Huh ? No way ! Holy Cow !" LOL.

  • I like so thought they were black

  • Oh yeah, SMOKIN"!!!!

  • everything the blues brothers does is old, right?

  • I do not think that everything which they do is right.

    Otaku3 (^_^;)

  • is this before the blues brothers?

  • A musical comedy film "The Blues Brothers" was released in 1980, and this song was released in 1967.

    Otaku3 (^_^;)

  • thank you

  • You're welcome, joelperronful-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^_^)b

  • The singers were Richard & Charles Ingui (brothers) and Kenny Jerimiah. All three shared the lead vocals. The group's rhythm section played on the session along with member of MFSB.

Written & produced by Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff

Released on the Crimson label in 1967.

The original session resulted in a four-minute version recorded on four-track tape. It was edited & mixed to mono in '67. Tom Moulton mixed a stereo version (the original four-minutes) & it was released on a compilation.

  • Thank you for detailed explanation about this song and the group, MusicManKevin-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^_^)b

  • @MusicManKevin I'd love to find and hear the 4 minute plus version again.

  • Holy Moley! I always thought a black group did this song! What about the rest of you guys and gals? This is blue eyed soul all the way! Great Stuff!
