  • to people who have some concerns about this car, I have 2006 sonata V6, it has 122,000 on it, believe or not, so far I haven't had ANY problem, it works like the first day that I got it!

  • I'll take an Accord. The 4cyl has 190 hp better quality, dependability and resale value

  • I'll take an Accord

  • I like this generation better than the newer gen.

  • I have a 2007 Hyundai Elantra Limited and bought it brand new and would not mind upgrading to a used 2009-2010 Hyundai Sonata Limited. This one is quite nice

  • I got my 2009 sonata v6 today. love it my god and the price is unbelievable. $9.6k for 5.4k mile car. and the car just completely clean, it was a rental car and they let it go for cheap. I'm lucky. the reason i buy it because i have a 07 sonata and i love it so much, i alway keep my eye on sonata. l'm so happy now, highper all day now, can't believe i get sth like this for the price.

  • @jnnycliff Lucky bastard. I paid 15k i think in Jan 2008? For my 2006 GLS V6 with 20k on it. PLUS, since it's the old design it may be a reason why. In 2008 they were the first starting to come into the used market from lease return and trade ins. Now, there's quite a few out there. 107k and going strong.

  • @studpuppy69 well, no so bad for the price, i latter find out that my car was having some startup problem, but only cost $200 for starter replace because Hyundai said they didn't see any problem on the car. so i have my friend replace it for $200. after that it is running like new. My 2007 getting 90k just do a full Maint myself for lesser than $100 with the help of my friend. easy to maint, change oil and driving strong. love it

  • I got a 2009 Hyundai Sonata GLS 2.4L 4cil and after more than 5000 miles on South West of US I can tell you for true that the real mileage is over the advertised 32MPG on highway . I scored 32.8 MPG on a 490 miles run with A/C on and about 2 hours of stop-and-go in LA traffic [I10 Highway], two adults, empty trunk.

Next round I scored 32.6 MPG with no traffic at all but some heavy winds from side.

The best I scored 33.3 MPG from Sacramento to LA with no traffic, during the night, on I5 Highway.

  • this guy have problem with his mouth

  • @L4TIn0St4NdUp yeah...

  • I bought the car a little while ago.

They forgot to mention the VERY high quality interior. The camry feels very cheap. I test drove it along with the accord.

Hyundai has a new loyal customer :)

  • I agree. I cant appreciate it until you actually step into it, but damn its nice.

  • @EliteSlayer542 Not to mention the Sonata is a good looker too. I wish I could get one.

  • If you want the sonata in the video you better hurry up because the 2011s are rolling in very soon.

  • I guess so, but sadly they are out of my price range at the time, maybe in a few years down the road I will get a Genesis 4.6. That's the car i really want, next to the Equus.

  • @EliteSlayer542 guess u will notice rubbish shifting tranny very soon

  • @EliteSlayer542 thank god there are people out there who now like hyundai

  • @pattycarljackson Once you own one you realize how good Hyundais are. Between my Sonata and my 08' Audi A4, the A4 has needed repairs 3x as much as my Sonata.

The worst thing to ever happen to my Sonata so far was a poorly sealed windscreen letting some water seep through. Repair was free and done without questions. While my Audi was having problems with the power steering and its brakes. I had to fight to get them repaired for free. They tried everything to get me to pay those bastards.

  • beats any american car, and even with honda and toyota.

  • Ummm not really.... People these days don't take care of their cars my mom has a broken down toyota, my dads Hyundai is turning into crap my neighbors honda isn't working... I've had 3 chevys none ever broke... Stop listening to the 1990s news of domestic cars dude

  • lmao..your a inbred...enjoy your domestics..if thats possible ...^^

  • You have thumbs down but I have to agree. Cars are cars. things happen. Things wear out and break down and people need to take care of their cars better.

  • The thing is, the Malibu is an American car, meaning unreliable crap.

The Sonata kicks the malibu's ass in design. Especially the interior. The Sonata is beautiful inside.

    Malibu is also more expensive.

BTW 30 mpg does not suck and 4 cylinder power is perfectly fine for everyone's needs.

  • i like tht car

  • Great car.

  • You know, both Sonata and Camery are very quiet. Do you know why? Because Sonata sold their engine formulas to Toyota. Surprised? Well, it's true. Sonata was the quietest car in the world, but when Toyota found out, they wanted too, to buy Hyundai's ultra quiet engine, so they did and now they put it in the Camery. So, don't say "Oh, Camery is much better, and Sonata is cheap" because both of their engines, are the same. And also, test drive a car, before giving an opinon. Hyundai improved alot!

  • Also, Hyundai is Kia. Hyundai bought Kia in Korea very long time ago. They both are very good cars!

  • Camry

  • The Camery has a 2.4-liter DOHC 16-valve VVT-i 4-cylinder. The Sonata has a DOHC 16-valve engineDual Continuous Variable Valve Timing. (CVVT) 2.4 lite 4-cylinder.

  • fail comment

  • i have a korean co worker here in canada...he bought a new american made van and having lots of troubles in just 2 years...he said next time he will just buy a sonata....not because hes korean...he said in korea they use sonata as taxi cabs and they last more than 500k kms and still runs good..thats what he said

  • what van?

  • pontiac montana

  • i have one 2008 and is really very good in all the parts

  • Nice. Someone I know has a 2000 Hyundai Sonata with around 128,000 miles on it. The only problems were an oxygen sensor going out and a window not fully closing, otherwise no problems at all. Never broke down,

  • accord is better car but u have to pay premium for it. for the money, this car is very competive.

  • Does anyone know how to change the Dash Dluster?

  • i have this car the V6 3.3 L and its really fast

  • For 25 grand? This car is screaming value. You get the top of the line model for about the same as a base model Camry, and this car is by far, more attractive than that horrendous looking Camry...

  • You can get a pretty nice Camry for 25K, but it's still a value.

  • The style of the Sonata is more traditional. The Camry is quite a bit more unique. I do think the Sonata is more attractive. I price compared the Sonata to the Accord and there was a $5,000 difference comparably equipped. I couldn't believe it! And get this, the similar Kia Optima, which was redesigned for '09 also, is even cheaper than the Sonata, making it a screaming value. Fully loaded for $23k.

  • You're ignorance is ludicrous. Just because a car doesn't carry a badge or cost exactly as much as you would like it to, you frown upon it and look down your nose at it.

Maybe you don't recall, but you're the one who ran your mouth about merc and Hyundai parts.

Have you run a Mercedes for 200,00 miles? or a Hyundai for 150,000 miles for that matter. No, you haven't, you're just being a little bitch and putting shit down just because you "think " it's right.

  • You're grammar is ludicrous.

  • Well I can tell you I owned a Mercedes and it was a piece of junk. Someone was always breaking on that car and it only had 100k miles. I drive a Kia Optima and am so far pretty happy. DON'T buy a car because of the badge. My two worst cars were that Merc, and a Camry.

  • Your view is tainted, you're not just looking at it with a macro view, you're viewpoint is biased.

Give me consumer reports and actual manufacturer's reports that the materials they use are lower quality and durability than Toyota, Honda, Infiniti, any of them.

Until then you have no business talking to me.

  • Really? Durability huh...?

Interesting that you bring that up because I've got a Hyundai Azera, 3 years old now, and my father just bought himself an Audi Q7 less than half a year ago.

Now, if a Hyundai is meant to break faster than those expensive luxury brands, why is it that he's had to go back to the Audi dealer just as many times as i have had to go back to Hyundai in the last 3 years..?

  • I think the previous Sonata looked better on the exterior .. but the new interior is sweet and high class looking

  • if i were in the market for a 25k car, i would without a doubt for a second in my mind, go for the new Mazda6. It is unbelievably good

  • Hyundai's aren't reliable? I'm at 150,000 with mine. I'd call that reliable.

  • I convinced my Aunt in switching from Oldsmobile to Toyota, and she has LOVED her '01 Avalon for years now without trouble. Another example, is my Dad whose loved Buicks and Cheverolets all his life, but is now FINALLY getting rid of his '98 Buick Century for an '09 Limited Sonata. Point here folks, we all know the "Big 3" are suffering BADLY...!!! That said, instead of "limiting oneself", give Hyundai a try. I guarantee with the '09 Sonata's MAJOR improvements, they have Toyota & Honda nervous

  • J.D. Power & Associates, along with Consumer Reports, have rated the Sonata VERY well with regards too saftey & overall reliability. However..."people are people", and its unfortunate, that Hyundai's inital reputation got a bad rap. This said, i just don't think people are ready too "shake" or should i say sway there opinions, in a more positive light on this manufacturer. My whole family, has been GM for years, then i convinced my Aunt a long time Oldsmobile lover to switch too Toyota......cont

  • that's why when you buy a hyundai brand new, you need to run it to the ground.

  • Hundai?

  • Hyundai does well.

  • Great Video. But as a consumer, In the long run, You are better off buying a 2 year old Camry for the same price as the new Sonata. As an added bonus, you do not have to see that HYANDAI monicker in your driveway. Lets face facts who is going to buy this thing when it is 5-7 years old with 120K ON IT? The original cost is now completely depreciated.

  • I sort of agree with your first statement, but there's a lot of people who buy Sonata and plan on keeping it until it finally breaks down. They're pretty popular in my town, and I think they're a good buy, especially if you're like me and intend to keep your car till you can't drive it anymore.

  • Hyundai's aren't reliable

  • So uninformed.

  • I gotta admit it Hyundai makes great cars for the price, and looks good! I would like to have a Genesus 4.6 V8 man those things are nice! Hyundai has step their game up, not to mention their warranty is great, they stand proudly behind their cars being realiable

  • God, please tell me why "bad"( not really meaning bad, but sort of "could do better" cars) look soooo damn good, and "good" cars like NIssan, TOyota, Honda, etc have cars that really dont convince me (looks). This car is beautiful, yet I would not buy a Hyundai, I would buy a camry, but god that car is to conceptish (ugly). PLease people, I'm 16 and soon getting a car, but WHAT DO I GET? Im so confused. I love the Cobalt, but the car is just a toy basically. Help Please, what do you recomend?

  • This is a solid car.

  • That's crap, I've seen limited v6 ones cheaper than 24k around my area. This is a sweet car

  • The Passat is VW's flagship car so to speak so when you compare a Passat to a Sonata its kind of not a fair match, but I bet the Sonata will hold up really good when compared to a Passat. Passat vs. Azera now thats a fair match, one thing is for sure the Genesis will own the Passat in a comparision.

  • Hahaha your a dumbass. I highly doubt you even driven or rode in one of Hyundai's new products. Hyundai makes fine cars, infact Hyundai tided with Honda in terms of quality, reliability, and safety, Hyundai is ahead of Nissan but behind Toyota. So before you talk shit go do some research. If Hyundai sucks then Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, Kia, and Mitsubishi sucks as well cause they basically run the same engines and transmissions. Its called GEMA go look it up okay faggot.

  • Instead of purchasing this car, I purchased a Genesis. While this is a nice vehicle for such a low cost, it needs just a little more than value to be better than the Toyota or Honda. As for their reliability, my wife had a 2001 Accent. We put on 21k miles a year for 7 years. We then traded it in on a 2007 Elantra and it has been pretty flawless. The Genesis is too new to estimate. But so far one flawless trip to San Fran. with zero issues and 29mpg @ 79mph.

  • The warranty is pretty stellar for these Hyundai

  • The Hyundai brand has improved, but the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord are still better.

  • "Improved every single area that this vehicle has been lagging behind in."

Well, it's still small, it's still unreliable. And we can't say the new ones are reliable yet since they have just came out. Only time will tell.

  • @TheJabHattEnt

Stop talking out of your ass and gets your facts straight before making biased unfounded comments. Do some research, you might learn something...

  • It's true though. The Hyundais weren't that reliable. And I'm saying that we can't say the new ones are reliable yet, because they're too new to say. So stop hating so much on the internet and start getting what people say, start having some real debates rather than saying "Stop talking out of your ass". You're the reason why people around the world think Americans are ignoring.

  • "You're the reason why people think Americans are ignoring."

No apparently you are because you can't even correctly insult someone. The correct term is ignorant. All I am saying is that if you actually took the time to do some research rather than relying on what you hear from others and being stuck in the 80s, you would know that the Sonata has one of the largest interiors in its class and has consistently been very reliable over the past decade...

  • It's still small and cheap. And the interior,s trust me buddy, I bought a Hyundai because I go to school, and I really did not like it. I really like the new ones, but we can't say their reliable, we unfortunately cannot look into the future and say that it is reliable. I said this before, stop hating, it won't get anywhere on the internet.

  • Dude are you blind, incompetent, or just plain stupid? I wouldn't sit here and argue with you if I didn't know for a fact that the Sonata is not small (maybe the Accent/Elantra is what you're thinking of) and it definitely doesn't feel cheap. The Sonata has one of the nicest interiors in its class with this new 09 redesign actually. And as previously stated the Sonata has been on top of the reliability charts for the past decade. So what am I hating on exactly? Just stating facts...

  • You know what, I'm not gonna lie. The interior of the 2009 Hyundai Sonata looks nice. I like the cleaner layout. I was impressed that I went to check it out at the dealership, and I just didn't like how it felt. It doesn't have the same quality materials as the Hondas or newer Nissans. It still feels cheap and hard-plasticy, which is the same reason why I hated my old Dodge Caravan.

  • Now that I can respect. Thats your OPINION and you're definitely entitled to one. It just irks me when people take their OPINIONS and spew them over the web as if they were facts. The Sonata's interior feels plasticky to YOU and thats fine. I disagree and several auto magazines back up the claim that the Sonata has one of the nicest interiors in its class. But oh well I guess we can agree to disagree...

  • I do can say they are reliable, I suffered a car accident on a 2007 Accent, My car saved me from something worst, just minor injuries, and I fixed it after that, it is up and running, the other car was a Lancer, it got TOTALLED, not functional anymor, not fixable. So, I got facts, I dont give a fuck about Hyundai Haters. Facts are on the table, if haters dont want the see them, it is their problem.

  • ignorant or ingnoring?

  • my cuz bought a new camry 2 years ago. the repair history is overy 50 pages and counting, He is going into abritration with toyota to see if he can get his money back or get a new car. do u think toyota will buy him a sonata?

  • Yes, they should buy a Sonata for your cuz, and accept that Toyota is not longer what they used to be before 2000. Toyota is just name now.

  • lol, "Hunday"..

  • What Jeremy Clarkson thinks of this car?

  • he hates it

  • But James May loves it

  • Who would pay $25,000 for a Hyundai? Not me.

  • Yeah neither would I. It just doesn't seem right to pay that kind of money for a "Hyundai" no matter how good the car is.

  • Is there any advantage to being so close-minded?

  • I'm not saying Hyundai's are bad cars...it's just I'd rather drive a brand with a little more of a reputation...

  • Why though? Honda & Toyota - long considered the industry leaders - recall their Accords and Camry's too. In fact consumer reports no longer recommends the Camry. And they don't offer the warranty Hyundai does.

  • but you basically just said that it doesn't matter how good the car is, it's still a Hyundai. That is willfully accepting the fact that a car's reputation (badge) is more important to you than how it actually performs.

  • i agree. me personally, i'm into the more established car brands ie ford, chevy, cadillac.

american cars might be going bankrupt rite now, but they still have that good quality driving imo.

  • oprankster69, hyundai is more established than chevy.

  • Good quality?, dude, American cars have very bad quality in the interiors, specially the Ford Explorer, MPG is the worst, your sales are only good on US and Mexico. That is why they are going to bankrupt. Those cars has very cheap material feeling. I have driven many american cars, all are the same.

  • GM is the only company that brought out some good cars this year. (ex. new malibu, the corvette, and the new CTS.) Ford & Chrysler are still shitty tho...

  • C'MON!! New Malibu is SO UGLY!!! the rear part and the tail lights were done like with no inspiration and just to finish the car, it doesnt have that "speacial touch" that many other car maker have. The CTS is another "luxury car wannabe", why should I pay for a CTS when I can pay the same for a real luxury car like BMW or Audi? You see. About Corvette, it's not bad, but I dont like it.

  • the Pontiac G8 is awesome. I want one!

  • i agree, the G8 has gotten very good ratings... but no good sales numbers...

  • What year explorer are you talkng about? MGP? it's a truck, and no import truck in the same class does any better and most worst. Your a Hyundai lover, good for you. but don't bend facts to fit your opinion. You mentioned accident in a accent, where was the accent hit

or where did the accent hit the lancer to write it off? and what year lancer? stories ain't balanced brah, be fair.

  • About the Explore, it was a 2008 Explorer, very bad interior quality (materials and design) poor MPG as all North American SUVs. About my car crash, 2007 Accent, got hit like Crash Test on internet, offset frontal. The Lancer, 2001, GOT THE WORST DAMAGES, Lancer drunk driver, got into my lane. I aint fitting anything. If I love Hyundai is because they gave me many reasons to do it, same way as other brands like Honda, Subaru and Peugeot has done it before. Now u got the balance. R u happy now?

  • Now I know you're crazy! all north American SUV's, how about all SUV's with v6s and v8s excluding hybrids? have you any idea how many people I know bought import SUV's because of perception? now all I hear is how bad the gas mileage is. Fact, Yukon with v8non hybrid gets better mileage than a Toyota 4runner with a smaller v8. The big ass Yukon hybrid gets almost as good gas mileage as a Hyundai Tucson with a i4 engine. check the FACTS.

  • Good Facts, I mean, I aint a Toyota lover, actually there is no Toyota or Lexus in my wish list. Regarding Hyundai, I'm expecting their Diesel 'R Engines', when r u North Americans will realize that diesel is better for SUVs and trucks?. Regarding the Hybrids, you said it so, HYBRIDS, all Hybrids are fuel efficient. Companies like GM has done good job with some engines after getting technology from Europe and Asia. Now they have to improve their design. Just check what is Ford Focus in Europe.

  • LOL, sorry for the bad grammar, I was gonna say something and wrote another, my bad!.

My question was When r u North Americans gonna realize that Diesel is better for SUVs and Trucks?.

I dunno if you in Canada have Diesel SUV or trucks, but gas is ok for speed, but if we're talking about a truck or SUV, it doesnt need to be fast, it needs be powerful, then Diesel have the Torque and also good Speed for big cars. When u drive one, u feel the difference. And Diesel is more fuel efficient.

  • Slowly Diesel SUVs are coming. VW is pretty much the only manufacturer that sell diesel here in Canada. But alot of people are ignorant when it comes to diesel powered vehicles. So car companies are going to have to convince the typical north american that diesels are no longer noisey and smoke belching vehicles.

  • Maybe not you, but lots of other folks...Hyundai is now the 5th best selling automaker in the world. (That's ahead of almighty Honda by the way).

  • I am a big fan of this car, and I have a honda accord and have always driven honda. I think next year I will buy the limited v6 model. There is so much value in this car and hyundai's are the next honda and toyotas, and unlike toyotas, there not boring, and bland. I really wish they did a longer review of this car.

  • Trouble with these cars is they only last about 5 years then you have to buy another, not really economical when home built cars last twice that!

  • how wud u know how long they last. they just came out this year

  • My sister bought a Hyundai and it was stuffed after 5 years, no reason they would improve on this built in obsolescence is there? Give me a locally built car every time!

  • if u look at some of the cars coming out lately and some of the re-designs ud know that there is a huge difference in build quality these days. i dont care for Hyundai but they r making significant improvements and u have to acknowledge that. and if u think local cars are of better build quality then u have other issues

  • Locally built? Well where are you, because this Hyundai, like so many other foreign brands these days, is not only built right here in America but designed by Americans. (Hyundai's design studio is in Ca. in fact). You can however buy a Chevy or Chrysler that's built in Canada. Do some research!

  • umm new redesigned sonata is coming in 2 to 3 years. its' one of the 12 products of hyundai's new line up. all started with genesis sedan~

  • I gotta say it really looks like Hyundai brought their a-game for the '09, I still don't think it'll be more than a sleeper unfortunately.

  • looks better than previous models but i am not really a big fan of hyundai
