  • I first heard this song played at my fathers funeral. It broke my heart!

  • @spillane444 I wished we'd had this played at my grandfather's funeral... Had to have it played at his wake instead...

It breaks my heart, yet fills me with pride at the memories of my grandfather, every time I listen to it (like right now as I reply to you!).

  • I lost my Dad one month ago and this song expresses exactly how I feel. It's beautiful and painful all at the same time.

  • @dennis789111 'beautiful and painful'... You're so right. Adding his soft voice just makes it all the sadder.

    Thank you.

  • I was so touched by this song, that I even dropped a few tears

Some time has passed since my old man died away, but

hell there is so much truth in these words. "thought he would live for ever, he seemed so big and strong..."

Thank you very much for sharing

    Cheers

    Sam

  • Some almost 30 years ago I was a prof Piano tuner in Ireland. For 8 years I tuned for many, many of Phil's concerts. On The Tranquilty tour of Ireland I will never forget the final 2 concerts in Cork. He sang this song, things were still very raw for him. How any of us got through that song I will never know. Phil you are a true gentleman! All these years later I still prize your signed letter of thanks. I look back on working with you with the fondest of memories. It feels like only yesterday.

  • thanks!!I love this.

  • kawanatyou,

    Thank you for watching.

If you want to hear Finbar and his brothers version; have a listen to my granddad's memorial video.
