  • giving credit where credit is do.

  • AWESOME!

  • Yeah he nailed the beauty of these. But that's not all. Go listen to his classical stuff. He recorded a bunch of it and applied his inventiveness to the arrangements but as with the lads, imbued his respect for that too. What a guy. His low key playing and few words kinda hide the techniques he must have invented to get those unique sounds. He also knew how to record a guitar so we get the whole business.

  • It's hard to hear his guitar over his shirt. Great stuff though. No one could ever play like Chet.

  • What a great combo, Chet and the Beatles. Chet gave me my love for the guitar and some of the best music of the 20th century was written by the Beatles!

  • yes in just about everything there is going to be someone who is better then you but musicians don't have that mind set, nobody should be so narrow minded. downfall of people all together.

  • Regardless of whether you think Chet is better than Tommy, or vice-versa, (personally I like both) one thing I think we ALL can agree on is............they're MUCH better than any of the stuff we hear these days, atrocities liek Justin Beiber, Rebecca Black, Willow Smith and Jenna Rose are killing the industry.

  • Atkins was the most influential guitar player of the 20th century. Players from Tommy Emmanuel to Earl Klugh & Carlos Santana, say hearing him when they were kids is why they started playing. I'm 68 and not liking country I never listened, didn't know of all the jazz, rock & and pop he played. In the last few years I've come to understand what a talent he really was.

  • He loved the Beatles. And you can see that Paul and Johns beautiful melodies lend themselves perfectly to the guitar in a very romantic sense.

  • When God made Chet Atkins he broke the mold. No one comes close to the pure magic he made when he picked up a guitar. Rest in peace, Chester.

  • Chet at his best with Paul beautiful

  • like god damnit ! even tina turner at the end says 'ive been waitin to meet you for a long time' thats not just something you say to anyone .

  • i agree with what skaedia and alot of people are sayin, that you cant compare guitarist simply because its not a contest. .. there are obvious guitarist who are better than others, you cant deny that. but there is not point in comparing tommy emmanuel and chet atkins or fight about it, im sure tommy would think you were insane if he saw what some people were writing here.. with that being said,,, i do think chet is the greatest guitar player of all time.. no no one mezmerizes people likehedoes

  • A lot of guitar players were under the influence of Chet Atkins!

Where else is ther such a powerful influence? Chet was known to

give credit where credit for being one of the best was due.

Still, Chet is the GREATEST THAT EVER LIVED!

  • EARGASIMS..!

  • chet chupala!

  • @gargolaoscura Es demasiado

  • and then Mr. Tommy Emmaunel picked up the instrument

  • Would be so much better without this cheap backing from the early 80s!

  • @themanwhosmokedthewo Backing track didn't sound 80's at all to me.

  • amazing........

  • beautiful picking,miss ya chet

  • 2nd song.....For No One?

  • @jerrytetzlaff yes..... my fav beatles song!

  • No body was smoother than chester, Watch others hands jump around, he was so good that he almost makes it look easy, the world misses him,

  • wat song is it about 1:40 to 1:44

  • @gunpowderageboy for no one

  • @gunpowderageboy Something-Written by George Harrison

  • god on guitar

  • what's the name of the second song?

  • @badbom92 The second tune is "For No One"

  • aw, I had premature ejaculation 1:32

  • Beautiful man, wonderful gentleman, gorgeous guitar player in any style he chose to try.

  • exelente!

  • Wow. Regardless of where Chet "Mr. Guitar" Atkins fits in the hierarchy of pickers, he will eternally be unique...and beloved...to the many, many people whose lives were enriched by his music. His music is part of the soundtrack of my youth. It will endure long after we're gone. Isn't that enough? The comparisons don't do much to diminish (or heighten) the legacy of the man and his music.

  • OK, it was Larry Carlton, not Knopfler...

  • Yeah, you are correct about the C.G.P. Mark Knopfler called him the real "Country Gentleman" of the guitar. And Chet often referred to himself, "with characteristic humility," as "just a country guitar player."

Incredible artist. One of the good things in this world.

  • In Chet's final years he gave himself the title C.G.P.: country guitar picker. Of course he was so much more than that. I got to see him shortly before he died. I grew up with Chet's music in my house. He almost seemed like part of our family.

  • @jimmiblue7

actually your wrong about C.G.P it stands for Certified Guitar Player.

He gave himself (along with John Knowles, Tommy Emmanuel, Steve Wariner and Jerry Reed) the honorary award that he created himself CGP, standing for "Certified Guitar Player"

  • On his album, "Chet Picks on the Beatles" George Harrison wrote the liner notes

  • If I Fell

    For No One

    Something

    Lady Madonna

  • Chet was not a country artist? Wow, every CD I bought was always located in the country section. How could so many stores be so wrong?

  • The fact that country artists pay tribute to The Beatles shows you just how HUGE The Beatles really were.

  • chet atkins is not a country artist, he would tell u himself if he could and there are many quotes of him sayin this

  • @murfdog19 yeah, but the the beatles, themselves, were inspired by country (and by all things american such as blues, motown, elvis, etc) ringo, for example, was a huge buck owens fan (act naturally is a buck tune).

  • que bueno!!!

  • what's the name of the first song??

  • if I fell

  • If I Fell

  • 2:20 Super Mario Hammer bros?

  • Lady maddona

  • haha i kno but doesn't it sound like it?

  • Lady Madonna is a great great song!

It´s cool that you noticed it kinda sounds like fighting the hammer bros in super mario 3^^ lol glad to see i´m not the only one that picked on that. XD

Excellent performance by Chet and Paul

  • the second song reminds me of tears in heaven

  • Chet was INCREDIBLE !!!

  • *is

  • Kindly elaborate...what does " *is " mean ? Chet has departed... Chet Atkins has LEFT the building...

  • Lovely blue plumage on the Norwegian Atkins.

  • I have NO idea what you're talking about...

  • @spadinajack

don't you mean "is" left the building?

  • This is one of the nicest pieces of music I have ever heard....

  • This is so beautiful.

  • I think to many people put tommy and chet in the same category and you just can't do that. they are differnt, sure they finger pick. but they are in different leagues, plus! Tommy Emmanuel would be nothing without Chet paving the way.

  • Agreed

  • @holysnikees98

There is no doubt. Notice that Chet was a trailblazer. Also, that he kept perfect timing and rhythm, never rushing the pieces, or embellishing them more than necessary. If you haven't done so, listen to his own version of 'Young Thing' which he composed. Blew me away. Too bad we never hear his music much on mainstream radio. Sad.

  • no guitarist today can even start to scratch the surface of chets astonishing talent R.I.P. Chet

  • dumb^

    guthrie govan?

    tell me that isnt talent.

he can play anything chet ever has and mass amounts more.

  • they are the same level they are just different people tommy is great chet is great

  • Even Eddie Van Halen and Eric Clapton would honor Chet Atkins! That is just how awesome this man really was!

  • Simply the best....

  • look, every can like whatever they like but chet gave a better show as proven by record sales, tv shows, and the hundreds of albums he was asked to play on. chet is flat out better.

In fact I'm so sure of this if you asked tommy he would say chet was better without a doubt. tommy does some different things than chet but not even hardly better

  • Chet himself would not like the tone or subject of your discussion. He gave Tommy Emmanuel the rare title C.G.P. I think you never grasped the idea that playing the guitar is NOT a competition. Don't spoil our fun by remarks of who is better than the other. We really need not know. Chet was always willing to give credit to other players. Why don't we follow his example?

  • @skaedis i think you need to fuck off

  • @JoshIsNumber3 What a cool remark. You are brilliant. I simply adore you.

  • This was AWESOME!

    Thanks for sharing.

    Banjoistically yours,

    Jon Eric

  • Chet is an angel, Tommy is God.

  • Chet = Mr. Guitar.

    Tommy = Mr. Guitar, reloaded.

Chet played everything so effortlessly that it appeared deceptively easy. I think Tommy evolved the art and took it to another level. Technically, Tommy is unequalled. From the standpoint of innovation, you really have to tip your hat to Chet, though. He gave Lenny Breau the idea of using cascading harmonics, he changed Tommy's life with his thumbpick, and he was Earl Klugh's main inspiration. Not to mention countless others.

  • You are right ! Stop asking "who's the best, who's the god"... They all have their own particularity, even if it's just a vibrato on a single note ! And Chet is like a father for them and us. We miss him.

  • And as I heard one very wise fellow say at the C.A.A.S., no matter how good any one picker is, we're all playing in Chet's sandbox! True, brother, true. Thanks, Chet.

  • you really think that? I haven't heard anything from tommy that would make me think of him as a guitar legend or even as good as chet or les paul or many others...

  • And Jerry Reed is the ultimate guitar God.

  • whos better??? chet atkins or tommy emmanuel?

  • What is that second medley what Beatles song?

  • 1st song = if i fell

    2nd = for no one

    3rd = something

    4th = lady madonna

  • the second song sounds heavenly.

  • it was one of paul's best compisitions

  • thank you.

  • thats awesome

  • good pikin

  • Wow! What was that at the very beginning?

  • It was two seconds of Tina Turner

  • She was a looker all right!

  • chet was so good and relevant to this day. He is so good

  • My dad had that exact shirt, which is also the one Chet is wearing on the cover of his album The Best of Chet and Friends with all the dogs lying around. haha.. I used to tell my friends it was THE shirt... I was only 12

  • wieso diese übertriebene hierarchie? why has the rhythm guitarist has to sit behind chet in the dark?

cool medley, Chet brilliant as usual ^^

  • i agree - Paul Yandell is cool

  • i was at work today and the radio was on... it was a bad day...

  • What a great medely ...Now I know where Tommy Emmanuel got the idea .Chet was the greatest Thks for posting

    Calgary

  • yeh Tommy 'borrowed' a LOT from this guy, Earl Klugh, Jerry Reed...and came up with his own sound. Not easy!

  • could this be shortly after the death of lennon

  • he ist still the greatest!

  • no, they're female.

  • cool i guess..

  • Unico e Straordinario!! GRANDE!!!!!

  • let me say, lady madonna. unstoppable

  • does anyone knows the name of the second song?

  • "For No One" from the album Revolver

  • For No One!

  • truely beautiful! xo

  • chet atkins in gettin some

  • why don't they show paul at all

  • All people who love chet adkins should also see robert normann. Chet and Robert are my favorites!

  • Love the smooth playing. Chet was one of the best at finger picking style.

  • he's amazing. i dont even have to say anymore.

  • Wow, Beautiful

  • I love Chet's voicings on the melodies...

  • My all time favorite guitarist performing a medley of my all time favorite band. Soooooo nice. I miss Chet, John and especially George. Everyone should have a copy of "Chet Atkins Picks on the Beatles". I wish more young kids would give him the respect he deserves. He's truly amazing.

  • couldnt agree more

  • How the hell does he make it sound so good??

  • When that recording was made, Chet had been pickin' for 40 0r 50 years....

So basically a few decades of dedication, living and practically sleeping with your guitar as well as making over a hundred albums, and you start to sound pretty good!

But it's true..I have a photo, and Chet often fell asleep with his guitar on his lap.

  • This has to be early to mid 70's.. those lapels, Tina Turner is too young.

  • good stuff.

  • nice, he played 'if i fell' 'for no one', 'something','lady madonna', just in case you're not all extreme beatles fans/

  • a truly great man in all ways .

  • amazing.......

  • what guitar is he using?

  • it doesn't matter

  • imagine playing guitar in that age

    chet is insane

  • There will never be another Chet Atkins.

This man was born to play beautiful music.

    This is a great video.

    Thanks for the post!!

  • Check out Tommy Emmanuel, he's up there.

  • Tommy Emmanuel is an amazing player, but I still think that Chet played on a whole other level...

  • i agree

  • i agree There will never be another guy like chet, and the reason Tommy Emanuel is up there, is becouse he learned from chet himself :)

  • Absolutely, there would be no Tommy w/o Chet..and there would be no Chet w/o Merle Travis.

  • And there would be no Merle without this guy and no this guy without that guy. To be honest, there also will never be another Tommy so just sit back and enjoy.

  • To say the least. Take "Lady Madonna" for example...Tommy plays of the parts at the same time. That's talent. But you can't ever discount Chet Atkins. Without him, there would be no Tommy Emmanuel!

  • Chet is also playing the melody and the bass riff of lady madonna at the same time on this video.

  • agree..unless an android...or a clone...but even then wouldn't work...thanks for the post too!

  • I liked the way Paul Yandell played the ending of Something.

  • if i feel in love with you

  • can cone 1 plz tell me the 1st song that he plays???

  • its titled "if i fell"

  • Chet rocks! Nice appearance by a young, 60 year old Tina Turner too!

  • i'd give anything to play half as good as good ol' chet

  • Listen to the master !!!!

  • What a nice medley of songs from the greatest songwriters played by the greatest guitarist! Love and miss you, Chet

  • Can it be that the man in the back is Tommy Emmanuel???

    He really looks like him!

  • It`s Paul Yandell

  • okay thx man you got knowledge!

  • Never heard about him until now ???

    Strange

  • What a great medley of Beatle songs! The title of the tunes he played are (1) If I Fell (2) For No One (3) Something and (4) Lady Madonna.

  • What's the second song?

  • This man inspired so many musicians!

He is not only ane of the best Guitar-players,

he is also a great inventor!

Thank You for charing your life with us!!

  • We must be proud that this man ever exist. He was inspirational to many other great playes like Tommy Emmanuel. This music is indeed timeless. We wont forget this man. Not ever......

  • 35 years ago I wouldn't have liked hearing their music like this but now, I love it. Timeless!

  • Two of the best!

  • Chet was such a great man in so many ways, but he never gave Paul Yandell enough credit for his contribution.

  • Maravilhosos; ele , eles

  • Excelent performance.

    The Great Genius of guitar.

  • All it takes to sound this good is 25years of hard work, a 10.000$ acoustic guitar plus a hired back-up blender/guitarist. Plus some incredible talent and humble behaviour. But where is second part w/Anna Mae Bullock?

  • beautiful

  • wow what a genius he was R.I.P Mr. Atkins.

  • his rythum guy is not bad either back there in

the dark ,no credit for him i guess

  • E Deus criou O instrumento : a Guitarra

  • God Bless Chet Atkins-He will live forever! Thank God for Tommy Emmanuel!

  • Amen !

  • If I fell.... For No One.... Something.... Lady Madonna

  • what are al the songs called?

  • beautiful medley

    thank you muzikman74
