for years i believed boss metal zone or boss metal core are the best high gain distortion pedal available but now, i wanna have this one...no doubt...
I love this pedal....I run it through my Marshall on low distortion...WOOOOW... What a BEAST of a pedal... Killer Marshall Distortion kicked up a notch..... Sound great with a band....
I have it. It has a nice range of distortion; from old Judas/Maiden to Slipknot. If you put it on 9 o'clock you will get old school metal, brutal enough to sound metal, but clear enough to play chords without sounding muddy.
It really sounds great. Don't be mislead by lack of tone controls, it is just perfect!
Hehe the way you said input, output, onoff switch..... sounded like you could make a song out of it,... input, output, onoff switch input, output, onoff switch lol
i see many of ur vids, and most are great but i think you made a very misleading fact, you said that scooped helps cuts through the mix and sounds great. its my experience that scooped mids are horrible fro cutting into the mix, or in a band. however i wont argue that "scooped" dont sound great. i have this pedal its the most organic sounding metal pedal i have ever tried. compared to the boss mt-2 and the digitech tl-2 or mxr fullbore. this one rocks. the micro is cool to.
Great sound and good demo over all, but it would be nice if Dave would show the Distortion range on this thing or on the Micro Metal. In both vids, he never touches the distortion knob. Makes me a little suspect that that is where it has to stay. He is a fun demo guy though! Makes me want one and I don't even play metal!!
Think I could use this as a volume booster to help me cut through the mix during solos? I just picked up the EHX Linear Power Booster 1 and it gives me a little more volume, but I'm thinking about returning it and swapping it for this one.
If you're looking for a solo boost, try the standard MM, this thing comes with footswitchable top boost and can create a really cutting sound, just dont hook it to an already overdriven or distorted amp ;-)
I'm looking forward to get this pedal, and for all I've seen, it's just worth the try... I have an Epiphone Les Paul Special II, and a Beta Aivin 35 amp with a nice, smooth clean sound, and I was wondering if with my equipment I could pull off those amazing metal sounds with the Pocket Metal Muff...
Great review. In fact, this is probably the best review of a Metal Pedal. He goes from a great clean sound in the best Fender tradition to a really full but defined Metal sound. Awesome.
I use this pedal with my '05 esp stephen carpenter model. I had a seymour duncan invader pickup installed in the bridge and it is a beast. I dont even use my boss metal zone anymore. I play everything from zeppelin and van halen to avenged sevenfold and pantera. Hella great buy!
I own one and it sounds VERY metal. It also brings out the sound of your guitar with the distortion really low. I haven't played without it since I've gotten it
I wouldn't recommend using a cheap guitar with it. The pedal itself is pricey
I tested it with a friends Epiphone LP, my Washburn WG208, and my 87' Cort Performer Series. All of which are stock. They get the job done, but that petal is best suited for something with some nice Duncans or EMG's.

Just get the original, it's gonna give you a lot better options for tonal tweaking.

I actually think it's drop B because he keeps going back to the B power chords.

Dave Weiner plays pretty much exclusively 7-string guitars. So it's actually standard tuning.
