@King441 Nope, there was no boot requirement for operators as the only time they would be out of the machine is when it is parked. Mechanics were the only people that did any sort of lifting that would pose a foot hazard.
@vantagetes hmm fair enough then, different countries, different rules on site i guess, i just assumed like our workplaces, you have to have em on at all times, no matter who you are or what your doing, but each to thier own

@THUND3R63 It was one of my vehicles yes. Needed something for when it was too cold or wet to ride the gixxer. Now I have a work truck and a Jeep. (and the bike)
These are`nt to far from the new 10 N keys on the dash does this have the flouresent lights those are nice ,sucks that you have to lock out to blow the rad out with fan at least the one I was running did on a chip mill feeding 2 reclaims did it for 2 yrs with the older 9 n OMG what a differance no more levers this one has the 2 track brakes ours had a twist lever forward & backwards LOVE them .
@MrMrtiki Should of tried to convince them to invest in a reversible fan. You can get ones that run on a timer and switch directions automatically at pre-set intervals so it blows the debris back out.
@vantagetes they had 4 cat mechanics working on it they changed the clutch checked wiring sat in the shop for a week NO way would not go so I came into the shop for service on the 9N and I asked if I could try it later they said giver while they worked on the 9 I pulled out and locked out to fill my time sheet I tried the fan when the whole world went by me they come running out what did you do I told them just locked it out well Thank the boss I got a nice pay check after that find .
@arbitor55555able Actually it's not, the quick fill coupler for the diesel tank is. If you look closely you will see a hose running to a box with a round silver connector. The service truck has a quick coupler on the diesel gun they pop on there rather then having to haul a 3" hose full of fuel up the tracks and across the side of the dozer.
I should not have called him a dummy, sorry about that.but white smoke from the stack indicates cold fuel start.Sorry for the name calling, that was wrong.if it was a warm engine start the smoke should be black from the fuel, unless coolants getting into the cylinder.the newer cats pumps are cut back to reduce emissions & produce very little smoke.
@dozebud no problems, you didn't know. It wasn't fully warmed up yet but it ran for a couple min to get all the fluids circulating before shutting it back down and starting the video.
@dozebud Before you start running your fat mouth maybe you should consider that the dozer was already idling for a few minutes before it was shut off and the video started. There's plenty of oil "up top".
A good operator..starts his cold start pre check..with a walk around...check hoses..undercarriage etc.Check all fluid levels... engine pre start oil level..then when running pre check running level..air filter indicator..fire extinguisher indicator...cleans track frame daily ... cleans all observation glass points..checks all alarms.
Then he does his plant running check after start up......via gauge indicator read out information ......similar to 747 pre start check up...lol
@FUCKINROCKIT There is one on each side, if it's in dual mode as the one side goes up the other will go down. Now in single mode you can keep one side at the same level (say toe of slope) and change the other side to vary the slope.
Heh Mike so much for mr cat mechanic =p But I guess maybe Dexters doesn't run quickfills? If you look closely there is a square box with a round silver quick fill for diesel so the service guy doesn't have to haul his hose up to the cab. This one was worn out and leaked every time he connected/disconnect. That's where the leak is coming from. Good eyes none less! (Hey when you coming boarding anyways? Isaac is back on the 12th and I don't work weekends).
Another awesome video..i think i have watch all your stuff man!,can't wait for finish my last year of high school and go to the operator school...my dream is to work in a compagny like you, with all the big Cat machine!:)hahah
The steering toogles on the left hand would be the cluctch/brake combo, the deaccelerator is exactly like an accelerator except reversed (you have to let it out to get more fuel). The reason being is that you spend a lot more time at full throttle.
That's diesel not hydraulic. If you pause the video at 4:00 and look just up and to the right there is a hose going to a square box with a silver quick attach fuel fitting. Every now and then the fitting doesn't pop correctly so it drips down the ripper into the fuel guys overflow bucket. We use quick attaches on a lot of our machines to minimize how often the fuel guys have to climb up and down.
I guess that means the C18 replaced the 3408 because they are the same size (18 liter). So does the C18 have a good reputation for reliability? And what about the 3400s (3408, 3412)?
The D9Ts have the C18 now, and the D10Ts have the C27. I haven't seen any Ts with engine problems yet. For the most part all the dozers I have seen (even in heavy use conditions) usually hour out before you have an engine malfunction. Of course once you start racking up high hours then you need to do some routine engine work, which usually just ends up being pull the engine and rebuild while its out, or swap.
Yeah, thanks for all the info. My own Cat 3408 has done over 5,000,000 kms or about 70,000 hours in 80 tonne road trains, which is quite heavy work, and it's on it's 3rd in-chassis rebuild. Never been out the frame and the crank & block are still in tolerance. Cat make good machines & engines.
