My friend and I were tallking to Dick before a show in Chicago, we had seen the Beat Farmers many times before. My friend says to Dick "we've seen you everywhere" and Dick says "You ain't ever seen me in rehab".
Damn those were good times, thanks for posting this.
I introduced my Dad to Country Dick at SlimsSF, while the first band was on stage. When The Beat Farmers were supposed to go on, Dick was still up in the balcony with my Dad still drinking beer. They were calling him over the mic to come down so they could start the show. Classic. He even commented the next time we saw them about my dad. "Where's your Dad?" he said. I said, "at home". He said "well as long as he drinking or fucking something, then that's alright.Tell him I said Hello!"
At a show in Tucson, I was standing in front of the stage, holding a pitcher of beer in each hand. (one was a friend's) guzzling from both when Country Dick finishes a song. Everyone's cheering, flipping him the bird, spraying beer, when he looks down at me, smiles, and says, "God Damn it, I like the way this man drinks."
It was like having Renoir say he admired my brushstrokes.
i was lucky enough to sing with the great country dick as a regular in his garage band, sang back up on his devil lied to me cd and also recorded a single with him "Lets put the X back in Xmas." He was a one of a kind genius legend and will never be forgotten.
I got to go onstage and whistle "Big Rock Candy Mountain" - I was lucky enough to have the import EP before it was released in the USA. Dick saw me in the audience and asked "how the f... do you know this song? - why don't you do the heavy lifting and finish if for us?" Thanks for posting this - takes me back to my youth and a much better time in my life.
The greatest live band ever!! The first of many times I saw them was at Bogart's in Long Beach. When I saw the cardborad sign posted at the entrance which read "No Beer throwing tonight" I knew I was in for a great evening.
Tom Stinkfinger, are you the one posting these vids of the BF'ers. If its you, thanks for posting all these gosh darn good memories of jerry, buddy, rolle, and yes, COUNTRY "MOTHER FUCKIN" DICK. And thanks to everybody else who recorded these guys, it brings tears to my eyes seeing them again.
These were the days, back in the late 80's early 90's. Bob Dobbs readings, Gin Guzzlin Frenzies, and Country Dick Montana ridin on your shoulders thru hell or high water, leading his pony to the watering trough of life either it be the old Lone Star in Kansas City, Mississippi Nights in St. Louis or that show in Columbus Ohio, too drunk to remember the bar name, where Dick bestowed me with a used condom.
It may me the softcore version from what I remember but that video rocks! If you're just now tuning in.... give this shit a few seconds and it gets better. I was there! Maybe not at this performance but I WAS THERE! And I'll never forget how ---- back stage --- Country Dick Montana touched me in places that made me feel uncomfortable. What a night!
The greatest bar band ever, San Diego's finest. In this version he actually contains himself to the stage. I've seen him finish this song on top of the bar after stomping across the room tabletop to tabletop. God bless County Dick Montana! RIP.

My dad bought him a couple of shots of tequila after a show, and asked him to sign a napkin for my mom, Emily. He starts it with, "Dear Bev,"
My dad says, you know, wait wait, her name is Emily!
Country Dick looks at him and goes, "What the hell's the difference?!"
We still have a napkin that says
"Dear Bev Emily,
Stay out of jail
Country Dick Montana"
