don't get me wrong, I like this a lot, but I really wish the mandolin had a more unique part. I feel like it's always in unison with the violin, and because usually the mandolin is playing an octave higher then the first violin, it tends to mask the first violin's sound. They should either give the mandolin its own part or not have one at all.
I did the arrangements; except for the intro to "Country Club" where the mandolin (domra actually, a Russian version of the mandolin) and violin are in unison the mandolin part is almost always above the violin part in pitch.
I like their version of Country Club - especially the mandolin player! What's her name and is that an Iucci mandolin she's playing?! The rest of the band is pretty wimpy - too classical in their approach to this kind of music in my opinion.
Thank you, we did a concert recently in Sedalia, Missouri where Joplin wrote it and found out how many different styles there are for playing this music.
I've always called this neo-classicism. That's my story and I'm stickin' with it. Such a loving tribute.
