  • THANKS

  • Oh thank you so much!

I"m a girl and I needed help with this!

  • I use this knot for a casual look on weekends!

  • How Did People Do that before YouTube

  • First method I'd learned was this one. Simple and does get the job done, especially if you're short on time. Unfortunately as it's only half-braced, the knot tends to come out lopsided. Which can be good if you're going for a less-professional look, but still need to wear a tie. Also good if you want to accent the thinness of a tie by using a small knot.

Still prefer the reliably-symmetrical full windsor, myself.

  • Grrr, whenever I do this (or any tie, really) my knot always looks ate up. Fuck ties.

  • Thank you so much for teaching me an easier way!!! <3

  • Thank you!!! I did it within 30 seconds!!!:DD and came out perfectly!!:D

  • i dont like it , its too small and not even

  • hey look at my diy skinny tie! make ur own! please :)

  • THIS IS VERY SIMPLE !

  • that looks like shit, windsor all the way

  • XD well i have been calling it the wrong name since elementary school XD

learned the proper name which is great and the video freshened my mind too

had to tie my tie yesterday and forgot how XD thanks for posting this

  • @azbrc1984 I would like your comment, but I couldn't bring myself to take it off of 169 likes

  • Thank you ! it is the only video which i understood

  • wow unbelievable!!!

  • whats the point? all knots look the same to me 0.o

  • THANK YOU! Even it is not oriental... :)

  • awesome! I've been looking for this knot for like 6 years. now if only their products were as good as their knot.

  • also known as the Pratt knot

  • @miketallica665 The Pratt has one extra step in it. But, I think the Pratt looks a little nicer than the Oriental - better symmetry.

  • I think the St. Andrews knot is the best.

  • Isn't this called a four in hand or schoolboy knot?

  • Avvi66

    Thank you for lessons!

    Great job!

    Simple perfect!

    A hug from Brasil!

  • shit i still dont get it!!!!

  • i may do for him everyday :)

  • I like this knot :)

  • don't bother using this method... it just isn't good in any way

  • penis

  • thank you so much for this video. I could not tie a damn tie! I looked at several videos before this one and still could not get it. This one was the best!

  • Isn't that the shelby (prat) knot? I thought shelby knots started inverted. Also, what are people referring to when they talk about the "dimple" on a tie?

  • What is this? The Matrix? Speed up the damn video!

  • @Reprobate5150 I like tit slow, gives me time to see what he's doing.

  • excuse me, but this is bassicly the shelby/pratt knot......

  • @aikidochess the shelby knot first goes under and around(wrapping around the small side) then goes across and down, the oriental just goes straight across and down. the benefit of the shelby is it falls apart when you remove the small side whereas the oriental forms a knot on the thick end

  • what is the best knot for wearing a suit? i mean, i like big knots

  • Comment removed

  • ive been doing this one for years and it made my ties look like crap

  • Why is this method called "Oriental"? we don't "all" do it this way. It sounds like a stereotype to me...

  • @chinatownpimp it's popular to the chinese, it doesn't mean every azn does it!

  • all of these knots look the same, like the windsor

  • I think this is my favorite tie knot :3

  • Why is this knot causing so much controversy? It's obviously different from the Four in Hand (and VERY different from the Half Windsor), and that should be obvious to anyone who has actually tied any of these knots.

  • @z4ckm0rris How is this not a Four in hand knot?

  • @XxTeamHazMatxX Watch this guy's other video and you'll see. Also, it stands to reason that he wouldn't bother making two videos of the same knot and claim they're different.

For one thing, though, in this knot there are less steps, and the tie actually starts facing backward, and when you take the tie off the knot stays in.

  • I'd like everyones opinion would you say orignal is better I think it looks pretty sweet

  • Thanks m8 :-)

  • Wow. First off, China is Asia, not the Orient. "Oriental" should refer to old Persia and the middle east. Secondly, this is a really old knot, usually referred to as a "Four-in-the-hand" knot, or a "Cigar knot." But WAY to make it sound exotic.

  • @kendrian

You don't know what you're talking about.

People are Asian, things (such as a rug, vase, or a knot) are Oriental.

It's called a Four in Hand, not a Four-in-the-hand, and it is similar to, but not the same as Oriental because the Four in Hand starts right side out and has an additional step.

  • made in china huh

  • this is like the easiest of them all lol

  • which knot should i use if the tie i am using is relatively thick and stiff.

    thanks

  • finally now i dont have to use the zipper tie lmao

  • this is prolly the best knot

  • this should be used for short ties,.. ive tried this on my long tie and the remainder was damn long,..

  • i've always tied my tie this way. I didn't know it was called the oriental knot. what a strange coincidence because i'm chinese

  • it was hilarious menyu ! LOL !!!

  • @menyu not surprisingly, probably the simplest knot to tie too :P

  • @menyu: Awesome.

  • You're wrong... Look at my video The Half Windsor and you will see why. The Half Windsor has many more moves AND doesn't start INVERTED like this one.

There is nothing called a MORE or LESS professional knot. The choice of knots depend on the make of the tie, the fabric and the thickness. MOST important is the shirt. You have to choose a knot that suits the cutaway. A wide cutaway is suited for the Windsor. A narrow cutaway will make the Windsor look cramped, and hide each side of the knot.

  • yes, thats right!

  • @avvi66 well if you notice he never said it was a half Windsor knot it said a oriental knot

  • @avvi66 What knot would you recommend on a tie that its fabric is thick?

  • @MultiPhilip09 lol this was one year ago, but DAMN you just got owned xD

  • i DiD it yeahhhh

  • This is the only knot I can do xDD I don't know how all you guys can do it.

  • damn i hve to wear a necktie in my school and the necktie hve the school badge so it rly damn hard xP

  • Thank you man, I've started to use tie

  • the oriental knot???? Oh is this the one Saddam Hussein got.... finally .`-)

  • lmao...i get it. hehe

  • This is the knot that all the retards at school did. I was like the only one who did the full windsor.

  • thank you

this techn is so simple and it help alot

  • Youtube. Replacing mothers everywhere since 2005.

  • loooool true

  • lool

    Best comment ever ;)

  • My mother definitely taught me how to tie a neck tie.. Father... used clip-ons until someone aught him AFTER I learned... smh...

  • wow lol seriously i love your comment xD

  • that comment made me laugh a lot

  • Comment removed

  • @azbrc1984

Your mother tied your tie for you?

  • @azbrc1984 yeah.... my mother didn't know how to tie a tie. And my father is really bad at teaching things (yes even simple things) and he only knows the one knot.

  • Thank God , i was looking for it

  • AHHH! This saved me from going to homecoming without a tie! :)

    thanks you!!!

  • No, half windsor. A full windsor looks like a equilateral triangle, kind of.

  • some people do not realize that on many knots the dimple below the knot is supposed to be there!!!

  • During Basic Training, if we left a 'dimple' below the knot one of our instructors would use the vulgar term for a very stupid person by pointing-out that: "a c*nt belongs between a woman's legs not on a man's chest".

I've always tied a four-in-hand with two or three wraps (depending how long the tie and how high my waistband), so this seems a lazier version of the laziest knot.

  • Basic training for what exactly? Doesn't sound loike the job of my dreams anyway!

  • For the armed forces !!! Duhhh!!!

  • Just like the Four-In-Hand knot except you start with the back of the tie facing forward and wrap in the opposite direction.

  • thx ;)

  • lol, this is the only way I know how to tie a tie :D

  • This one looks really half-hearted. like you could wear this if you wanted to look like a slacker w/ yr sleeves rolled up, no coat, etc. for the summer

  • it looks pretty good for the amount of moves used. I'd probably use it they way you just described. Or maybe when I'm in a hurry.

  • Wow, to me they all look the same...haha.

  • I guess, I'll do it. Since it is somewhat my heritage...

  • great now ive choked myself to death

  • Very smart, quick, and impressive. Thanks!

  • The Half-Windsor is tied on another one of my videos, check it out. Something I'm wondering about though; if you think this knot is asymmetrical, why do you think it's the Half Windsor?

    Cheers :-)

  • Nope, not a half windsor, but the same as a four-in-hand.

  • isn't it asymmetrical? it sure looks asymmetrical...

  • It is. That's what you get for really really simple styles. Try a nice full Windsor.

  • cool awesome! now i can do it!

  • haha i tied it... yay!

  • QUIT RUBBING IT IN MY FACE!!!!!!!!!!! *Whimpers in corner*

  • very easy. thanks

  • It looks just a good as the full Windsor and much simpler!

  • its the samn winzer not without the double turn around and i've been doing all thoses extra moves for what

  • I've been stuck with the half-windsor all this time... lol

  • looks easy to me.

  • Is it me, or does it look a little bit sideways? Maybe it is me.

  • its suppose to be like that becuase its the simplest.

  • ah so this is the knot my dad showed me and that i've always used ...

  • this way for chinese because we used to tie the "red scarf" the same way. :p

  • some how erotic.

  • Thanks!!! Now I can leave for the party. I only had to watch once! haha. Great stuff

  • this video saved my ass big time!

  • Best knot ever, my father taught me this one, he wore ties for most of his working life, he knew a bunch, most had gone in and out of style, but this one is the workhorse. It works well, when tied right, with ties of all sizes and styles. But it is always great to learn more.

  • FULL WINDSOR=

    -Easy

    -Professionale'

    -Realest

  • looks the same at the end...

  • i like the half windsor knot better..it doesnt have that sideways look..but this is a really easy way to do it..its cool

  • Thanks this was one of the easiest to do. It beats all the other weird videos I found.

  • the easiest knot ever! thx a lot

  • that was really easy

  • thanks so much. great now i have mastered the matrix knot, the half windsor, and now... the oriental

  • this "oriental" knot is not good. i do a windsor knot wich is better just with 1 move in plus.

  • i found the windsor too fiddley im epic with this style tho =)

  • Windsor FTW. ;P

  • I think you mean the half windsor. Not that it matters or anything though...

  • no wait... even the half windsor is 3 more moves than this. Time to stop talking to myself now I think...

  • thanks, about time i learn how to tie one

  • ...nevermind just seen the other video.

  • Isn't this called the "Four in hand"?

  • To really save time just loosen it and slip it over your head

  • learn this one, its the easiest...

  • I find it amusing that most women are on here to tie a tie for there boyfriend/husbands. lol

  • well actually for my school I have to tie a tie for red ribbon week. so I am trying my best to tie a tie.... that and I am in the school band and all the 8th grade percussionists are boys except me and they always ask me to tie their tie

  • my dad wears this kind of tie a lot because he's asian. XD

  • sweeet this should save me sum time in the mornings

  • why are there so many different kinds, yet they all look the same. lol. but i can do most of them. hehehe.

  • THANKS! im going to a new grade and they make us wear ties even tho were girls...and i wanted one instead of a clip-on so i bot 1 but didn't no how to tie it! thx u helped a lot ;-)

  • TYPO BOYFRIEND

  • NOW I GOTTA TRY THIS ON MY BOTFRIEND

  • lol bot friend hehe

  • what's the problem?

    something funny?

  • lol! :-)

  • i have no idea how but i got an interview for an office software administrator and you just saved my ass dude

  • this one is really easy, thank you

  • you're the man. thanks.

  • it's also called a half windsor

  • :-)

No, sorry. The Half Windsor has three more moves than this one. They are the exact same shape though, but the Half Windsor is considerably bigger.

  • It's time I embrace my heritage.

  • this has to be the most simplest one lol. thanks alot man =)

  • So many knots but in the end they all look basically the same!

  • Thanks man! This is the easiest knot to tie so far!

  • oriental !?

    SO THEY MUST BE ASIAN
