  • cage is clearly a cunt

  • wat?

  • This is extremely pointless.

  • @Walpolapalooza

Wrong. Read up on John Cage.

I'm seriously considering doing this for a recital.

  • Damit, I knew I shoulda kept the reciept.. . . Didn't think I would miss 8:22 of my life so much. . .

  • me encanta....excelente

  • Someone's having me on. This is really John Lithgow doing one of his "Third Rock From The Sun" weird alien routines, right? Right?!!

  • wtf?

  • i was wondering what does the score look like.....

  • ???????????????????????????????????????

  • i have the same practice mute he has

  • 作曲した奇才と演奏する奇才の夢のコラボレーション。

    貴重な映像をありがとう。

  • groovy ;D

  • this is silly

  • BUTIFUL~ :D

  • So beautiful. I'm in tears.

  • Ummmm...WOW! such a nice mouthpeice for such a stupid NONsolo

  • I'm worried I might somehow end up watching this either drunk or stoned and give myself a hernia through laughing...

  • LMFAO@ 7:11 & 7:27

  • Hilarious. But seriously, this is retarded.

  • Best 8 minutes and 22 seconds of my life.

  • 3:33 is the best part

  • lol wut

  • omg..I love John Cage.. The man was brilliant, hysterical and INSANE.. thank you for posting this..!!

  • is this a joke??

  • this video is a waste of life

  • My mistake. He is dead. Joke must still be going.

  • John Cage is just f*cking with us. He really is. We'll find out after he dies and his will comes out.

  • He isn't only a great musician. He is an artistic person too and this really difficult to find..

  • john cage....either hes a genius or a complete dumb ass

  • @godoofakeman hes just a fucking dumb ass

  • Totally, any backup piece! Could have been a bass clarinet! Toooooo funny. I laughed.

  • Hahahahaha gad I love this.

  • a pre-schooler could've composed this..

it isn't even fun to listen to!

  • @ApolyonTheSoulRender Really... I mean I'd love to see you compose something as genius as this.

  • @generalducttape I sure can. John Gage was an idiot who dared call himself a composer. He wrote garbage, not music.

  • @ApolyonTheSoulRender (cont) but I find this hilarious in a genius-ey sort of way. Hell, I've been playing trombone for about 12 years now, but I probably couldn't play this.

  • @generalducttape Enlighten me with its genius please? There's no genius in this, it's a string of random crap that doesn't deserve to be called music. And I am no composer, but I bet I can write something better than this "Solo", but no, I'm not wasting my time composing anything like this. John Cage is laughed at by musicians and the public in general. His stuff isn't good.

  • @ApolyonTheSoulRender I mean sure if you want to look at the strict box that many people see as music then yeah, it's not genius. And if you can, why not? You obviously have time to respond to a random person on the internet, so if it's so "terrible," you'd have no problem writing it quickly!

And no I'm not being sarcastic :P Not trying to be offensive either, just I find this stuff interesting. I'm much more of a fan of classics (me and a few others are playing Toccata and Fugue in Dm quartet)

  • @generalducttape unless you were being sarcastic : /

  • @generalducttape Genius? hahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaa

    You just made my day.

  • I wonder why this fool put up this shit instead of the superior berio video from the same recording.

  • What i hate about this, is that if I composed this for my music course (30% of my final grade) I'd get 0 marks for this.

Random notes, and some screaming here and there. With more rests than actual music.

  • Rogue Archangel, you owe kwonotae an apology. It is Christian Lindberg.

  • my favorite piece

  • i'm doing this at my recital. I don't know how i'm not going to crack a smile.

  • You faggot. You named it with Christian Lindberg but it's actually John Cage playing. That's misleading, ass.

  • that most defiantly is chirstian lindberg playing sir, look at the mouthpiece.

  • Solo for Sliding trombone by John Cage

    That's the description.

And by the way. I own a Christian Lindberg mouthpiece. A lot of people do.

  • it's still Christian Lindberg playing...look at his face?

  • Uhhh.... no that's Christian Lindberg buddy, the piece is by John Cage

  • actually it is Lindberg playing, the piece was written by John Cage

  • That is without a doubt Chrisitan Lindberg playing

  • I must say I did not enjoy this piece.

  • i dont get it.

  • if you have ever played orchestral trombone you would, it's basically an inside joke..

  • This is what so called modern music guys.

  • thanks fo the post

  • He's bipolar! Issues!

  • It's the song haha. This is brilliant

  • 7:33 lol

  • He's crazy but funny!

  • yep..im doing this for solo and ensemble. the hardest part about this song though would probably keeping a straight face through the whole thing lol

  • at least most people wouldn't know if you mess up somewhere lol

  • the people on my side of the neighborhood would probably think it was a joke lol

  • @cj614

where do you find the music?

  • @miles53194

Oh, lol. I was kidding xD

  • @cj614

well i dont want to play it lol

i just want to see what the heck it written!! hahaha

    thanks thouht man

  • @cj614 where did you find the sheet music? could you email it to me possibly? this is definitely a hilarious piece to perform =P

  • 4:13 is the best part of the whole video in my opinion. when he stops.

  • this is amaaazing!

  • Do a little research and learn about 20th century music before you go spouting off at your mouth again.

You are a mockery of those of us who consider ourselves musicians.

  • Good call!

  • lol this guy is so beast at "managing" a trombone

  • Maybe i can perform this at my next family reunion

  • this is retarded

  • WTF is the point of any of John Cages' music?

  • This is an Avant Guarde Peice by john Cage, who originated the style back in the 50's

  • I wonder if I could get away with playing this at my junior or senior recital when I get that far.

  • that was..... interesting, I'll give him that

  • wtf at 7:27

  • very creative and different!!!

  • I dont understand why he uses mutes when either the tuning slide or the main slide are off?? No noise is coming out of the bell so a mute is kinda pointless at those parts. I really like how it sounds when he uses the cup with out the tuning slide on

  • he pushes the trigger and plays through the other tube of the horn

  • thats the point

  • Because the composer said to do it!

  • 7:27 epic....

  • lmao! wow, that was very..interesting...i have to say the composer did their job in entertainment because i couldnt stop laughing, not bad just different, have an open mind people

  • beep!

  • This is a symphonic orchestra without the other instruments.. hilarious

  • Extremely artistic and philosophical. This is so called avant garde music. I like something different like this.

  • ez egy nagyrakat szar

  • That's it, this deserves to be favourited!

  • I have a feeling Cage was trying to be satyrical at the expense of trombonists in orchestras. Many gestures, tone qualities, inane ticks and vocal sound effects seem relatable IMO - but of course not hardly to the distilled extent of this work.

    Cage has left me :-/

  • this song actually speaks to me..I think I look like this with some songs xD

  • Yeah exactly! Those quirky vocal things... I aparently make my own noises when I'm deep in concetration mode. I don't do them intentionally but I've made the cello players in orchestra rehearsal turn heads :-/

How CLASSIC is the section where he's concetrating on a blank page? Only to come into a miniscule one note cue? HAhahahaha so relatable.

  • yes omg...if you have ever played trombone in an orchestral setting you'll understand this piece. Thank god I play lead though xD

  • No way! At least as 2nd, you are permitted to be more "spaced out", 1st ALWAYS has to concentrate, count and lead in the 2nd (in my experience anyway). Don't consider bass, they have their own lines occassionally. But anyway, how wierd that we relate to this??

  • hah I either play lead or bass...not much experience playing 2nd..only in some jazz work

  • LOL, what happened at 2:42?!?!

  • he barked duh

  • I'm gonna play this "song" in the spring XD

  • a really interesting piece. (im not being sarcastic) =]

  • he's limited by time constraints..john cage is difficult to appreciate, and pple think it's just random when everything is actually well planned..try listening out for the different colours as well as the space of time

  • i want what you're smoking.

  • Cirkusreif und wie heiß der Titel !? Eventuell: die Entdeckung der Langsamkeit beim Posaunentest in der Musikalienhandlung (hehe-harhar).

  • lol 1:02 wtf

  • What did he put on the part of the slide where the bell attaches to?

    A glass jar/bottle?

  • Ahahahaha.

That was such a great waste of eight minutes.

  • Spare me...

  • one of the strangest things i've seen in a long time

  • That has to be the best video ever!

  • ???????????

  • it must be lead in the mouth piece

  • John Cage?

am I the only one thinking on mortal kombat?

  • you're thinking of 4'33'' thats where someone sits at a piano for 4 minutes and 33 seconds and does nothing the music is the silence...john cage was a err..."interesting" person

  • the music wasnt just the piano player, it was any noise made in a set amount of time....audience members, chairs moving, squeeking of shoes, papers, anything that made noise was the music

  • yeps, was just stating the name of the piece =)

  • Amazing!!

  • What the hell was that.

  • i honestly know nothing about "20th century music" but this is the most hilarious musical video ive seen, i cant stop laughing. comedy for band geeks :D

  • Brilliant. If you know nothing about John Cage or 20th Century music...you wont appreciate this. I cant stop laughing!! Amazing! Just wonderful!

  • can somebody tell me the point of this music?

  • this is the best performance ever

  • I think John Cage is a little bit mad, and Lindberg is enjoying it~!

  • Is there a point in using the plunger mute when you take the tunning slide out.

  • It won't effect the sound, if that's what you mean. But is there a point? Cage thought so!

  • Oh yeah sorry thats what i meant.

  • amazing performance: I couldn't have played it better myself!

  • I'd love to see video of someone performing this at a solo and ensemble festival. The looks on the faces of the judges and crowd would be priceless.

  • such an amazing performance. John Cage is such an insane genius

  • It leaves me speechless every time

  • fantastic..

  • fantastic , great musician and actor so funny

  • Glorious page turn at 5:55
