  • irish everyone in liverpool wuz irish !!!!!

  • one of the most beautiful talent for the music...

  • she sounds like Kate Bush...

I wish she and Nick Cave would have married and had a kid...

  • The Big Book of British Smiles...........

  • between two ferns? anyone, david, anyone?

  • @nikbeatmb - "scouse (Liverpool Irish)"

WTF? haha, dont think Irish has much to do with scousers, i'm sure scousers and the Irish alike would contest that

  • Have to disagree there la - Liverpool is renowned as 'little Ireland' - a scouser

  • psychedelic

  • I never thought about it but PJ is guilty of singing in an American accent weird. No worse then Green Day singing in a cockney accent i suppose..

  • if u listen to american singers theres a good chance you will sing like them

  • I remember this show... David Byrne's interviews always sounded like he was child waiting in the Principal's office.

  • not all brits have an american accent -- listen to alot of early Beatles tracks and they have sung ina scouse(Liverpool Irish) accent especially george but certainly PJ doesn'T sound particularly english when she sings but she's great anyway!!

  • what the fuck do you mean by "liverpool irish"? there's nothing irish about it.

  • why is it that when british people sing they usually sound like they have an american accent???

  • Tons of performers, while appearing totally confident/relaxed on-stage, admit that they are shy and shitting bricks at the very thought of performing... guess the adrenaline takes over. Having performed hundreds of times myself (admittedly on a much smaller scale) I can relate to what DaveTube68 said: "Byrne was absolutely terrified to be onstage, yet he felt very compelled to be up there."

That is so true of me! Wish I was as big as David Byrne though, maybe I'd feel a little more relaxed.

  • pj harvey is sexy and the british people are the best at rock music one single has all the greatest bands of all time thats amazing

  • i think she was tired of all that eyeshadow and eyeliner and false eyelashes and heavy lipstick and hair extensions she sported for a couple years... the 'to bring you my love' era.

  • nothing but the flowers some forwards masking artifice, first thoughts. time also is tomorrow of tea time with heddy lamar. also as a baaboon on mars seeing a spider walk backwards on earth in some way< i'm an allligator, baby, i'm nick ronson on mars. Nasa. for that kmatter, lol, ha

  • how old is david byrne in this video?

  • If the info is correct, he'd be about 46.

  • How cool is this! David Byrne interviewing PJ Harvey. Awsome!

  • She is beautiful, talented and sensitive.

David is as well talented, sensitive and handsome but way too shy.

They might be a nice couple.

And fuck all these "smart" macho remarks.

  • if i was interviewing pj harvey,i'd be a little shy too.

  • I would say Byrne is not shy but socially awkward. To be a performer one can't be too shy.

  • I was very interested to learn recently that Jimi Hendrix was a very "shy" person too! Of course you could say that he was socially awkward and not shy but... I dunno I try to imagine someone who is socially awkward but definitely not shy and all I come up with is an obnoxious wanker! I think I belong in the rare "shy but not socially awkward" category!

  • Sly Stone is a shy person as well, and as such, he couldn't handle the spotlight and so turned to drugs and alcohol to calm the nerves, help him cope. And we know where that has lead.

I'm not sure how some people who are performers and also very shy manage to avoid the same path. Some inner strength that the others like Hendrix or a Stone didn't have, which allowed them to muddle on through without resorting to mind altering substances? who knows.

  • I read a book about the early days of the Talking Heads ... according to the author, Byrne was absolutely terrified to be onstage, yet he felt very compelled to be up there. It brought an interesting tension to the early days of Talking Heads' live shows. Byrne got a lot more comfortable onstage in later years.

I think both Byrne and PJ are sort of more comfortable on stage than in everyday life. It's maybe a matter of having more control over their environment.

  • Whats with the lack of respect, out of all the things they are saying you focus on the teeth ? thats just weird.

  • One question, Just how the fuck can you see her teeth?

  • They can't, they just have something against British people.

  • eh? why are u looking at her teeth?

  • That's also david byrne. hello? Talking heads? Legend? Genius?

  • this is from sessions at west 54th street.pbs.

  • I dont thnk so. FEar of Music kicks ass!

  • I don't know if it's a "logical" pairing, but it's good to see someone interview her that she must have some respect for, and that wouldn't just ask mindless questions that would probably bore the shit out of her. I think if I saw PJ harvey on the street I'd be a little reluctant to approach her just because I have so much respect for her as to not want to impose on her privacy.

  • Thanks, stiffo8. I figured it was from around that time based on her hair (!) and comments (I know she had somewhat of a nervous breakdown during/after 'TBYML' and 'reinvented' herself far more simply for 'ITD?')

Again, thanks for the interview and the response !

  • What a logical pairing ! How old is this, and where did you find it?

  • its from around 1998 when she was promoting 'is this desire.' i can't remember exactly what website it was from, but it was a pj harvey fansite.
