I first heard this song on a beach in Alassio (Italy) in 1984. Never tire...it's appeal is ageless. The black and white robed monks represent his polar depression...his heady highs and singular lows. No one understood then but his peers represented it well in this fantastic memorial to a very unique and talented man.

I'm a huge Joy Division fan and have been since I first heard them. I saw them in Bournemouth in 1979 supporting The Buzzcocks - I was blown away.

But I've always thought that this video is awful and tacky and adds nothing to the song. A eulogy it may be but I cringe when I see it.

It reminds me of the opening footage to the '79 Neil Young film, Rust Never Sleeps in which hooded figures also stumble around with large objects occasionally falling over - and for me, that spoilt a fantastic gig.
