Jerry gets no respect, he was and is a bonified out-of-control comic genius! When I was a kid (late '50s and on) there was nothing more exciting than a new Jerry Lewis movie.
He compared himself to Charlie Chaplin. Nope, I don't think so. And I don't think he was in the class of the great mime comedians including Harpo Marx and (even) Jackie Gleason.
@298625 Exactly, I couldn´t agree more: He was not in the class of them, he was in an elevated class, MUCH better than those dudes. I´m so glad we agree on this :-)
im sorry for my ignorance but this is an honest question.
i just dont get it, what is he doing? is the orchestra playing the typewriting sounds and he is pretending to type? are they making fun of typists? well i have to admit that it is funny.
@aprandecki It's just one of his shticks. It's like the typewriter is an instrument in the orchestra (which is why he's dressed up like all those fancy pianists) and he's just being his usual goofy self. Hope that helps!
@aprandecki The piece is called "the typewriter", and the composer uses the typewritersounds like a theme in it. He also wrote pieces like "the syncopated clock" where the clock ticks in the background, and "the walzing cat" where we can hear the cat meowing. It's funny :)
In this clip, Jerry pretends to play the typewriter, and makes fun at the same time, so it won't get boring :p
LOOOOOOOOOL. Gosh I just love this whole act. SO funny. Thanks for posting. BTW, love how Jerry looks at the camera in the first 50 seconds and gives a crooked smile. Such a cutie :D
wow, just wow! so funny i love Jerry Lewis!! But i can tell that the age Jerry and Dean lived in was much more innocent than ours. If someone got on stage and did that today, theyd be booed at or laughed OFF the stage :( so sad. I miss good old fashion slap stick.
Awesome Video btw :) thanx for putting it on youtube XD
It's a spoof of the Classical Pianist. The "no hands" part is just a great example of this. He was also probably making fun of some of the odd characteristics of pianists (ie Glenn Gould playing style). Please don't anyone be offended by my comment: I am a classical pianist and can see the humour and the truth in this sketch. Classical fields often take themselves to seriously. And it's genius' like Leroy Anderson who bring humanity back to the field
There's so many versions of this and it's all his. But I think that this video--in my opinion is the best! It has so much energy and funny faces. Love him :).
er is einfach nur genial egal was er macht jerry kann leute zum lachen bringen ohne das er andere in den dreck ziehen muß hut ab you are the best of comedy
yeah, Jerry's definately alive, thank God!! ;) maybe u mite also b thinking of jerry LEE lewis (they're not the same) but i just thank God just about every day thta he's alive. i love him soo much!!
oh wow.. this is bittersweet. My dad and I used to watch this all the time and he said that when he sees me type I remind him of this skit. Thanks for posting it.
What exactly is a pantomime? So many people have tried to explain to me but I can only understand that whatever it is Jerry LEwis does it REALLY WELL and he makes me laugh :D
Now I can see where John Ritter got a lot of his mannerisms on Three's Company, he ( and I found him funny) was just doing Jerry Lewis. Jerry is hilarious!
Dean Martin is famous for being an on-stage 'drunk' after leaving the Martin and Lewis act. He actually did drink quite a bit but it wasn't serious until is son Dino was killed.
that was'nt me....thats was my little brother....he was on my account and i told him not to post anything....stubbor...sorry lol.....jerry lewis rocks!!!

Hi. I love this clip so much I bought all the Martin Lewis comedy Hour dvd's. Can someone tell me which show this typewriter clip is on to save me hours of looking? Thanks!
how is the video very poor? i want the video in HD?..the video is good...and the funny thing about jerry lewis is that hes original. and nobody had done this before him.
you should never analise shows it was a comedy rutien you oviocly have not seen jerry in the rest of his skitts so dont talk about somthing you dont under stand and of course the video is poor it was probably taken from vhs this show is really old of coures it is bad quality
