As far as the lamp dimmer, I have never seen one like that, only units that plug into the wall, and then you plug the lamp into them. Did you make sure the pullchain switch on the adapter was on? If it was, the resistor is probably toast.
In my old house we still used a fuse box. You could not have the christmas tree and the vacume cleaner on at the same, or the fuse would blow and the whole house would go dark. I still have quite a few of the early glass face time and the later metal face type.
@migette1 Sorry! I forgot - it wasn't the christmas tree, it was the microwave and Vacuum. Or anything that sucked a lot of energy paired with another big item. The hairdryer, Drill, etc.
@Ethaninsf5 That would make sense both those would take loads. What I have noticed is the thickness of your power cords to those multi socket boards (extension leads) due to the current ratings being much higher. Give you a shout later dinners ready!! Peter
The "Y adapter" as I call them, that you showed at 9:40 is also pretty common. I love them! I don't own any of the fancy adapters though, and have never seen a "pop-in, pop-out" adapter before! You always make cool videos!

@Ethaninsf5 How many strings of lights did you have on, seems strange all the lights went out, here we have ring main and each plug is fused.

yes, the pull cord would only be for the center light bulb, since I see those adapters with the outlets and lightbulb everywhere!

At 4:38, I have seen those in use everywhere.

you can still buy screw-in fuses, even though we use circiut breakers now.
