Ah yes, this is when the storm that produced the Spencer, SD, tornado and the Great Lakes derecho arrived in NYC. I was and am still in Kentwood, MI - and we got hit about 21 hours before this local forecast aired in NYC. We lost power for 12 hours, and our cable didn't come back for a few weeks.
I remember back in the summer of 1998 when i was 8 years old, we had some incredible thunderstorms here in new york city. I remember specically the storms the night of 6/17 and 6/30, ones that i cant remember exactly were those in july and august. but the granddaddy of them all was labor day. around 3-4 PM as i lived on the queens nassau border it was creepy!!!!
Yea but I'm not sure if all of southeastern Mass had severe weather. If anyone has a video of this stormy weather from southeastern Mass, can they load it up?
I heard that there was more thunderstorms on the 29th but I don't think they were as severe, but maybe I'm wrong because like I said, I'm not sure all of southeastern Mass had severe storms that night
there was a decent line of storms that moved through that friday afternoon (29th). then the derecho event on the 31st. on top of that, there was some crazy storms two days later on the 2nd. it was fun to be around albany then.
@weatherguy80 I live in Rochester NY and I remember the days you were talking about. That Friday the 29th I remember being in class when we got this really bad storm and then the next day Saturday was beautiful and sunny, then the next day we got more severe weather. My 9th birthday was a few days after that. I'm born in 89 not 92.

This was the same system that hit syracuse earlier in the night. Binghamton and albany were hit hard with severe tornadoes that evening 5/31/98.
