Based on my studies with Gmod i have noticed that striders tend to 'step' on larger enemies such as the antlion guard. if i am able to attach a living/dead antlion guard to the stick or a look-alike decoy, then the chances of the strider moving towards the antlion guard/ decoy will increase. then attach a rotating motor to the stick and we have a successful prototype of the mounted strider. and to increase the effect of the guard/decoy we can study to find what attracts striders.

nope, i use thrusters to push the various segments of the legs and feet in the right directions, i use ropes to constrain the movement of the leg. i have diagrams i can send to you if you need help.

not if you want any sort of manual control over its movement. otherwise it will always walk exactly the same way in the same pattern

Ok im trying to make this Tripid, I got it standing on its own, decently. How do i make the legs walk and keep thing going straight with out them straying off to one side? I have things noclipped, I could try a few more elastics =\

Ok, I missed the Ankle parts xD...k Now i got those on. Now i just need to make it walk smoothly, right now its just rather sudden, jerky walking, but its actually walking, not shuffling.

with regard to making the legs go straight, make sure your hinge joints are perfect (helps if you make just 1 leg and duplicate it), as well as the axles connecting the top of the leg to the body. oh, and i didnt use elastics, theyre ropes, used to stop the leg from bending further than i wanted it to. when youre finished, upload a vid and ill take a look =)

Are the thrusters at the bottom of the feet used to move the legs? Also, you could like stick a Monitor in the cockpit and have a camera somewhere.

Uh, partly. the thrusters on the bottom are to move the feet off the ground, and angle the foot forwards, so the thrusters push it forwards as well as up. there are many other thrusters on the legs to make the joints of the legs move in the desired way.

...of course im using thrusters, whats the big deal? how else would you control the legs? hydraulics and muscles would only work in a set pattern, so you wouldnt be able to compensate for terrain variations or the swaying of the torso. I challenge you to make a better walker without thrusters. =)
