If your car has low torque some wheel spin can be a good thing to the the tires going. But generally with front wheel drives its a bad thing =] From what I've experienced at least.
Remember, dropping the clutch is bad because it just makes the wheels spin and burnout. Also it makes you go nowhere because of the lost time you already had from a bad launch. Making the wheels hook up is what you want to do. I'm not saying any wheelspin is bad, but it should be at a minimum to get a decent time from 0-60. I'm sure if you do it right, you';ll be in the 6.5-6.9 second range.
I think it's pretty quick. Why does it look like it's shifting at 6500, instead of 6900 like you said?
Check out my 0-60 run in my Mazda 6 in my vids. The best I could do while taping was 8.0 seconds to 60 with a passenger and slightly uphill. Any tips for me as far as launching and shifting? I know the car can do high 6's in perfect conditions.
It was the ECU and the car didn't feel as good as it should have been. I have other video's of my car and was "only"hitting 6900rpm instead of 7.1k rpm where it normally can do. The car did 7 seconds flat in this vid. I know it could be much better as well.
Also I saw your vid, seems like your car is Slightly lacking, but that may do to your bad launch.
Best is to rev your car to 4k and feather the clutch off the line. once you did that, fully accelerate the car. read next post...
So you're talking about launching at 4K and just slipping the clutch a good amount so that it doesn't spin much? I've done that before, and it did in fact feel quicker off the line, but I'm worried about burning the clutch that way.
I'd rather be burning the clutch than get wheelhop and ruin many other components like the transmission or the engine. Dropping the clutch is much harder on the drivetrain than feathering it.
lol dunno the south shore that well, but I do know each time we made roadtrips to Ontario or USA, you know you`re back in QC when the road gets bumpy :D
you are quite the guy! i'd like to meet you someday (:

Well yes, wheelspin is a good thing in most cases, but in my video, there was too much of it.

You can get it down to 6.0 on a sticky tire, there's alot of wheel spin on 1st gear. Good run tho. What's ur 1/4 mile time?
