Beautiful and deeply moving. The only reason this film was called Pan's Labyrinth was because it 'sounded better in the English title' as Del Toro stated. Pan was a Pagan god, as well as a prominent figure in Greek Mythology, and was in fact a Satyr, not a Faun. You'll notice that any Greek depiction of him has human legs and feet, and has almost an entirely human appearance save for the horns. Fauns were commonly the more virtuous of the two creatures and were half man half goat :)

No, it's Pan, the faun. But it sure looks a lot like some images of the devil. Curious huh? But fauns are Roman mythology, they came "before the devil"

Depiction of the devil are similar to those of Pan, because early christians used the attributes of Payan gods (especially Pan in this case) to shape the look of the devil in their illustrations.

It was a way to make pagan tradition look "bad".

@UrieNanashi I think that's it's power and beauty lies in the simplistic richness of the harmonies. I've always thought that lyrics are just icing on a musical cake, and there's usually too much icing and too little cake. That's just me though. :)
