Sprite is a part of hip hop as baggy jeans and sneakers??? Are you kidding me??? I wonder how much they are paying her, b/c I guarandamntee she is overpaid.
Understanding kids are easy... generational fads tend to repeat themselves, just with a different packaging. Nothing is original really, just repackaged garbage that "looks" new, yet is a throwback. I need to apply to these companies.
We have the power to choose. Change the repetitious behavior, switch it up. Try something new and challenge yourself everyday. Soon enough, you will be the barometer and master of your life and this Government/Corporate complex will crumble leaving us the ability to shape a better galaxy.
I cannot think of a generation that can be called inspirational. Every generation is the outcome of its previous ones. We have learned from history about other generations which lived through gender discrimination and race harrasments which at the time were completely legal. I am not saying these do not exist today but at least not to those extremes. This generation is getting better in the same amount that it is getting worse.
@TalibFiasco Well this was made 10 years ago so things have changed. A modern example is how Monster energy, Red bull, Amp, etc. is part of most action sports including car racing like rally car (ken block, etc.)
These corporations are really willing to thoroughly study teens to manipulate their buying habits and lifestyles! I've got to admit though, they've been very successful. Wow, "teens are like Africa?" Harsh.
are hiphop fans that fucking stupid that they can be sold "culture" when i was a kid hiphop started along side of punk as a reaction to and indictment of society ,there was a very real underground, now the "underground" is a product, I never thought Id be that crotchety old man goin "these damn kids, back in my day"
I agree but i would argue thats its greater now.i wouldnt also just reduce the whole issue to being simply a maturity issue as if though adults dont try to always "keep up with Jones." The difference is that the moral fabric of the past was more intact than now and i would argue that there was a wider distinction in the past between consumeristic values and pples values. now we are fully immerged, american culture is consumerism. Public Broadcasting Service, British Broadcasting Corporation, History Channel, Discover Channel, Turner Classic Movies, American Movie Classic (Old) Cartoon Network > CN, MTV, Vh1, BET, (the) cw, CNN, and FOX
Et cetera. the list goes on and on. The music industry can just take any semi-talent and turn into (or should I say "make the seem to be") "Musical Genius." Example: Lady Gaga, Rihanna. I'm not saying they don't have talent, I'm just saying they can't stand on their own talent and...
@Morahman7vnNo2 thank you for noticing this. I've been listening to AM/FM radio for the past 6 months. On all of the "pop" channels(2 in my hometown), it seems like over 3/4 of the music that is played has no emotion or feeling at all, and not much effort was put forth.. It's like the record labels just threw out some bullshit for a quick buck. Damn, I hate the radio.
It was a horrible moment seeing Tribe Called Quest selling Sprite. Horrible. Puke. what other rappers sold out to Sprite..was it also Common, also briefly KRS one??? Mannnn
Very little difference between this ( 02:35 ) and the likes of 'COINTELPRO' ... at a different level... a much LOWER level by targeting the younger ones.
same thing happen with the hippies. Think tanks got together and instead of complaining about the new generation decided to market to them and cater to them. Thus the free minded generation that was so heavily oppose to the radical side of capitalism ended up becoming... radical capitalist with the held and still held belief of being revolutionary. I admire the attempt at least
Ya exactly... I always wondered how the hippies became yuppies when the values seem to shift 180 degrees. It's like even as a hippie, they didn't really believe their own message of a better world.
Meh, my stance will never change, no matter if it's cool or not. I've seen the enemies of democracy and I won't let them buy me off for a nickel. Hopefully people learn to think for themselves.
@hectorh29 Not your generation. Just the mind of a young man/woman, its been happening to all of the young minds before you. A teen growing up trying to figure out life and who they are and how they fit into the world and corporations prey on it. Corporations=predator, Young man/woman=prey. Is it right that corporations prey on youth for money? Nope. Can anyone ever stop it? Nope. Can we complain about it on a website that doesn't matter much in real life? Yep and that's about it.

MTV programming is soft-core porn and empty promises
MTV also puts remarkably dumb people on its network in order to make the viewer feel smart.
