  • good drummer too !

  • The ultimate in cool!

  • Timeless!

  • mits difinitely a classic

  • @mrjewmuslim so what... they are bloody geniuses...

  • Nice version, haven't heard it in a while, always liked this one, even without Young it still is nice.

  • great

  • thankyou you tube for having acsess to any song

  • Stills on this song was so good, damm good

  • Haven't gotten sick once!! Stephen Stills working it on this song....what a great guitarist..

  • GREAT live rendition. A timeless song by a great group!

  • If only i had been born 10 years earlier, these guys rock and their old geezers hope im that good when im that age!!!!

  • THE BEST!! :-)

  • I'm in love. Sing it, my lovely souls. Your music lives on!

  • Forever a Hippie, Where has all the great music gone? CSN, & CSN&Y your music filled a void, it's timeless. It represents a better time and place. Nothing like it today.

  • Thats the same guitar on Stephen Stills Live !

  • Stephen Stills takes the song over right at 2:30 and flies !!

  • 木の舟、スティヴン・スティルスの勇姿、ギター技~70年代の要~DeepRock

  • we ain't talkin 'bout practice....we're talkin 'bout very free and easy!!

  • I was a teen ager

  • One of the greatest songs of the past century. Immortal.

  • epic

  • Really loved this ... Thank you.

  • instant favorite

  • this song will rip your fucking head off

  • MUSIC

  • Now this isssssss music!

  • Leave the likes at 420, please.

  • Excellenté!

  • What a shame that edit is - seemed like it was just about to get cooking. If anyone knows if there's a full video anywhere, it'd be much appreciated!

  • @jbuck2112 the video I have is not this whole concert, like I thought it was. the dialogue at the beginning gives it away, its a compilation of footage that spans their career through the early 90's.. its called "long time gone." i wish i could find a whole concert set. hope that helps you!

  • Graham is incapable of messing up... he knows how to cover for people that do, too.

  • A classic A+ thank you

  • As a wooden boatbuilder, by trade, I can relate to the theme of this song......which is,,,tradition vs the modern age. David Crosby knows about wooden boats, and their time-honoured construction vs the nuclear age, and its peril.

  • @mrjewmuslim Graham didn't mess up. Artists will often perform a song differently than the recording. I'm surprised you didn't think David "messed up" when he sang "probably will keep us ALL alive" instead of "BOTH alive" as on the recording.

  • @transonic7 different solo etc, they arent screwing up get over yourself

  • There is an edit at 4:45. Does the full video exist anywhere?

  • There is an edit at 4:45.

  • Paul Kantner (Jefferson Airplane) co-authored the words, and the Airplane also released a version on their Volunteers album. I like both versions.

  • we saw them together 22 times-just lost my love-God I miss you-love me-lou's

    favorite song

  • C,S,&N at Their Very Best !!

  • FRED NEIL

  • in August of 69 I stumbled out Vietnam in to CSN I swear I wore their album out in a haze of pot trying to pull myself together. thxs guys

  • @db95018 Me too, my friend. Welcome home! 1972 for me.

  • @db95018 Thank you for your sacrifice. Welcome Home !

  • Kick Ass !!

  • Stills can really hold that note. Awesome song.

  • This song is about the aftermath of a nuclear war. Those in the ships are escaping from the devastation. The purple berries reference concerns radiation sickness while the "silver people" are wearing protective suits. The images of desolation on the video are perhaps from the nuclear bomb tests at Bikini. A similar but bleaker theme was pursued in The House at Pooneil Corner. Those of us who were adults in the Sixties were always aware of the threat of nuclear annihilation - Cuban Crisis 1963.

  • Four people have never been on a ship.

  • airplane version is better

  • @RANDOM1Z3R no its not...this is a beautiful mellow version....theres is apsychotic acid trip. THIIS--a GOOD TRIP...THERES a BAD trip.

  • @RANDOM1Z3R

it's good, but not better. These guys wrote it. Who bettter to interpret it.

  • Studio is a bit better their voices aren't as good live

  • Awesome song! Just heard it during a documentary on surfing. I am not a surfer nor a CSNY fan but I have to say both were awesome!

  • Damn good!

Always wondered why there are so many 70s vids around from The Summit in Houston??

Did their whole archive from those years get leaked or sold... or something? Has to be a reason.

  • "Wooden Ships" refers to the coffins coming home from VietNam.

  • @1968ankhe no it doesnt

  • "Wooden ships on the water, very free and easy,

Easy, you know the way it's supposed to be,

Silver people on the shoreline, let us be,...."

  • great tune.....

  • 3ohfive you are exactly right, it makes more sense for you to tell people what they should and shouldn't do. After all you are a people person. Good for you keep on keeping on my fellow mortal.

  • This song just takes me away. There's no music like this anymore

  • @3ohfive You're very creative, write this stuff down. Unfortunately, I wasn't bitten by a radioactive spider, but that is a very interesting theory. I am wondering if you were bitten by one of these spiders, because the thought you put into your reply is amazing. Keep up the good work, I am proud of you.

  • Is it just me or does Stephen have a really nice booty in this vid...lol

  • @saibondy -- ohhh, Stephen has such a nice everything-- I used to find him just the sexiest thang....

  • @saibondy Ladies, I'm gonna go with Graham as my man, LOL, but the music is universal! and awesome!!

  • Lead us away from this hostile land!

  • What a great song. I haven't heard it in quite a while, but it resonates today as well as it did when it was written.

  • Great version of this classic. Probably my favorite CS&N tune. Saw them in '74 in Texas Stadium, preceded by the Beach Boys and Jesse Colin Young. Neil was with them that tour. Never forget that time. The next weekend was the Allman Bros, preceded by Marshall Tucker and Joe Walsh and Barnstorm. Dig that old farts and farettes:) another old fart.

  • Byrds, Hollies and Buffalo springfield alums rock a great song.

  • This song takes on new meaning and resonates today just as much as it affected me when it was first released. All because of the MASSIVE ecological disaster happening in the Gulf of Mexico. There are many ways to destroy our fair planet. We seem to be trying them all.

  • so good when you are high

  • Actually I proudly love this video, my comment means that everybody likes this whether they admit it, or not.

  • i remember how free and easy this jam was to rock to when it came out...back when the war was still in our minds...we were scared to graduate back then cuz our ssn could come up...there is not another band so in tune to the love flower age then...we loved them, smoked pot and said far out...

  • Say, can i have some of your berries?

  • Awesome! Forst time i have heard this vision and it is just as sensational as the original. Thanks guys..love you all!

  • Saw this show in Houston in 1977. We had just moved back from Calgary, Alberta. Very nice show. At the time....great acoustics. Now still the teenager...wooden ships! ;-) xxx

  • What kind for guitar is Stephen Stills playing on here?

  • @solings gibson firebrid

  • If you smile at me I will understand, cause that is something everybody everywhere does in the same language.

One of the best lines ever.

    Viva smart people!

  • Stephen Stills is one of the most underrated guitarists in the music industry. He's amazing, as is all of CSNY and every combination of the four.

  • thanks for posting i cant play my record all the time and this seems to be the only real version but this is goooood

  • stephen stills BREAK IT DOWN on that solo! and mm them sideburns is sexy! whoo boy.

  • Along with this, there are some great examples of CSN live on youtube producing a dynamic band and vocal sound that is beyond what most can achieve on a recording given hours in a studio, this was one live play through of the song, amazing!

Wish I could have seen them during this period

  • smooke and fly

  • If you don't like this, you're in denial.

  • @DusCle for sure! Love it!

  • @DusCle

    So you must be

  • @mickeblue , I am in my 20s, and appreciate good music, unlike a lot of the people my age I know, who pretend they don't like something that's awesome ( like this video), because they are in denial. Keeping up with the Jones's is a form of denial.

  • @DusCle

If you don't like this, you missed the ship.

  • @DusCle haha even the original acoustic version is magic enough, this electric version made me feel these guys can rock hard ahahahahaha

  • all three played in the album in 69

  • Even as a young child in the 60's,I remember being drawn to their musicNow almost a half of century later, they just keep sounding better to me with time.Thank God for U-Tube,because I have found it very hard to find any volume of their music in stores.Since I found them here,I have spent countless hours listening to their beautiful harmonies and guitar work. There will always be a place in my heart and soul for them and their music. Thanks guys for all you've done for music, and for me.Rock on!

  • wow this song brings back some surreal feelings and memories. gotta love csn

  • beautiful! my new favorite song!!!

  • This song brings back such good memories and feelings. Good weed, good waves, diving for abulone and lobster and week long hikes in the mountains. Glad I was a "surf bum". Wouldn't change one minute.

  • People forget that live is live.....and that it is not a representation of an album cut. Sometimes, yes sometimes even, the live versions are even better and closer to what the artist originally created without overdubs, and such. AND if their really cool BOTH the live and the album cuts are both great. Eat those purple berries and carry on!

  • steven is up their with the best of them awsome

  • does anyone know who played what on the original recording?

  • @andrewcramer13 Crosby played rhythm guitar, Dallas Taylor played drums, stills played overdubbed everything else including organ

  • Album 1969 - This video 1977 - 8 years later... usually the ideas degrade only a few years later... this could have been so much worse... lol that "oh yeahhh..." was pretty cheesy. It's interesting... this record is very polarizing. People..well... rock critics (are they people?) either really worship it or hate it with the heat of a thousands suns.

  • i think the studio version is a lot better than this

theyre just improvising to the point where its not sounding like the actual song in many ways

  • You know, I kinda like this version. They make it sound more like a R&B slow jam with the changes they made.

  • are you serious? this is the most beautiful version of this song this have ever put together. look at how they're feeling the song... you can be around music, you be in music, but these guys ARE the music.

  • Neil Young was only with the group on and off. This song being from their original album from 1969, when Neil Young wasn't a part of the group.

  • I'm not sure if Neil was actually part of this concert, but if you listen really closely it almost sounds like he's singing during the second half of the song. Not sure though.

  • YEAH YOUR RIGHT!!!! WOW I WONDER...

  • mmm this song was from their 1969 album Crosby, stills & nash (of which Neil Young wasn't a part of) so hes sitting backstage crying lol

  • So where is neil young?

  • 0:33 it's as if they're having sex with each other

  • Just listen to Stills on that guitar! Would've loved to have been there to see that!

  • Me too Yoetah!!! It's rare to see a smile curl behind that stache! Love it...

  • 1 of the greastest song, and jams of all time

  • I love how david's digging stills at the beginning of the clip. They had the magic going.

  • i saw them in Charleston, SC. their still on tour now but it ends in late semptember

  • september

  • saw them in concert about a week ago. great show

  • No way where? There's no tours scheduled for them.

  • Nice Firebird with only a bridge pickup.

  • Wow...What a performance.

  • Listen & wonder.....One will never experience a union as powerful !

  • i'm seeing them at the hard rock tonight, so excited :]

  • Stupid me - had the chance to go but didn't. Saw them at Sunrise last time - they were amazing!

  • They had a new earthy sound around198-69 and I liked it. Enough to hitchike, why not it was summer, to Woodstock and I'm so glad I did, I'll never forget those three days. Donnie1=Donnie69

  • Woodstock was the 2nd time they played together. It was the beginning of a revolution which has not run its course.

  • God, those were the days. Well said adamatova: you've hit the nail on the head!

  • These are the songs you listen to when the world is exploding, reality is imploding and you just need to remember who you are.

  • These are the songs you listen to when the sun is setting on the beaches of the west coast of florida!

  • love this song, has been one of my favourites since I was 8years old. my favorite line was always 'silver people on the shoreline let us be.."

  • 1 of my Sat.a.m. @ Pensacola Beach, sippen Tangarey & Tonics, hanging out at the Dock, songs. ...very important!

  • I soooo miss these days~~crosby, stills, nash was a daily sound at our house 1968'.I saw them for the first time in 77' it blew my mind :)They will play here at the end of August in St.Augustine,Fl cannot wait....

  • This song is absolutely amazing. I agree with the person under me. I'm 16 and this music should be appreciated more and more after the days pass. These guys were a legend and always will be a legend. It's amazing they are still playing today. I just bought concert tickets today to a CSN concert playing near me. I can't wait!!!

  • im 24 years old an wasnt alive for any of this, but this music is absolutely incredible. nothing today compares to this, or music from this day and age.

  • Its something everybody does in the same language.

You are here now and appreciate it. Keep it living on.

I am of this era it still dosent get old. Peace...

  • It's a cool groove, but I don't like the poppy growl of the bass. I like Still's wide, full bass sound on the albums.

  • Um where is Neil?

  • Somebody inb the crowd yelled that same thing at a CSN show I was at. To which David Crosby laughed and replied, "NEIL doesn't know where Neil is!"

    Hehheh.

  • @El135o I was about to pose the same question until I saw your comment. lol Wasn't old enough to witness this phenomenal band. Where is Neil anyway? Ha ha Thanks for the laugh and insight. :)

  • Man I love the sound of that Firebird I Stephen is playing. A mini-humbucker mounted at the bridge and just using bare fingers to play that haunting lead and melody - doesn't get better than that!!

  • freebase cocaine was not kind to these men

  • Swift aging!

  • The Holocaust?-wow-never thought about it-and today is the anniversarry of the US turning back the St Louis, dooming over 900 jews to death-being in wooden ships wouldntve helped them.

  • Not the holocaust but a nuclear war aftermath.

  • I saw a lot of concerts at the Summit too, but not CSN. I did see them in Houston sometime pre-1976 (when I moved out of the city) but I can't remember where now. Probably the Coliseum? I don't think it was the Music Hall. Remember seeing Stills solo once too in the early '70s. This was always one of my favorite CSN songs. Still get chills when I hear it.

  • I saw CSNY and Beach Boys in Houston July 74 at The Jeppeson Stadium. Were you there?

  • They're going on tour again this summer for their 40th(!) reunion. Whenever they make it down south, I'm headed of to see'em. Not sure if Neil will be with them, but I doubt it. "Woodstock" wouldn't sound the same without the ol' boy...

  • I love the sound of Stephen Stills on that Firebird. I wonder if he got if from Clapton?

  • LOve Steven Stills!

  • stills guitar is so clean and so mellow int he intro and midway solo... very nice

  • wonderful!

    simply the best!!

    :-)

  • I'm having the best time staying up late and watching CSN videos with a Capt and Coke. These guys...DAMN!

  • I was at this show. And lots of other great shows at the Summit.

  • Bom prá caralho!!! Que maravilha!!!

  • That was great 5/5 :)

  • thank you.

  • Always thought they were the best all round band ever! They hit on everything thats important! brilliant music too!!! Thanks for posting!!

  • very cool! 5*****

  • does anyone know why so many 70s videos from the summit in houston circulate?? been wondering for years- Im sure theres a story there.

  • Great, great version. Great, great sound!

Haven't heard this since the last time I did a bong. 70's era. Just do a one-hitter now. Ha, ha.

  • love still's expression at 0:25 and crosby shakin' his fist saying ya steve your the man.

  • 1977, cool!

  • cosgirl22, sorry. too many scars. lived way too long . still a great song . for life is a wooden ship, sailing on to port.

  • Hefalump had the coolist posters,we all were puffing joints before 8th grade gardening class, my sister passed out in typing class from rainbows(tuinol),ambulace came to take her to the hospital, Ah,,,,1968 was a good year. This album is burned in my mushy brain. I might go buy a turntable. Now it's Jesus and thinking about heaven.

  • its good to be 50 the mainstream today is crack hos and whores really they need concentration camps to clean society up, really dont matter its almost over for america anyhow.;
