Awesome friend, the quality of the Canon T2i is phenomenal, I just buy it but I can not minimize the delay of the image to make panning (Full HD 1080 24fts) pauseado is rather fluid. I could tell how to do it and tell me what settings you used in your video? I think export to blueray. Thank you friend.
at some point I was expecting them to go back to a gay club. The story was really bad. The cinematography was ok if you like a derivative style over use of shallow DOF And over use of glide track. Let's face it unless you are completely incompetent everything looks beautiful on Thease cameras. It would have been nice to see some lighting, a good story, good acting instead of an advertisement for glide track.
@sodiumwinter1 Interesting that you think that the video looks like this right out of the camera. It doesn't. Neumann rocks the color grading, editing as well as framing their shots. Actually you sound rather jealous.
I'm an independent film maker myself, sliders, cranes, dolly's are tools that help you tell your story, they are not meant to be the center of the story. Anyway, you did a great job, I am not criticizing you at all, there is no rule in personal expression.
really great work, the color correction was impeccable. The only thing that bothered me a bit was the excessive use of the slider, too much camera movement.
@pedrosttau Camera movement is what separates Filmmaking from Photography. Pay attention to a Hollywood production and see how much the camera moves. In my mind Indie Filmmakers need to get off the tripod.
These men's eyes are gorgeous! Love the way this is filmed. Makes great use of the glidetrack and the facial expressions are hilarious. Really entertaining. 5/5
@FivePointProds Ha ha. Pete spends his time picking up cans in the woods. He makes the mistake of crossing onto my property. I set up an "Excessive Ruse" to steal the cans by feeding him cupcakes and drugging the milk.
The Canon t2i is mines by tomorrow. I was at first going for the t3i, but after noticing the t3i had no significant upgrades the math made sense to get the t21 for $700 as oppose to the t3i for $900. The video quality on the t2i is cinematic quality, and worth every penny. The Pentax K-x was on my list, but after comparing video caliber to the canon t2i, its hands down the canon wins by a landslide.
I liked the the diagonal horizon shots to show impending hi jinx. The facial cues were well played, something jarred with the clasped finger roll for me. I'm not sure why. Dropping the bag of cans/bottles could have used SFX. Otherwise, You got me inspired, because this was beautiful!
@jimmyj37 Yeah, I love this one so much and every time I watch I wish we would have done some dialogue and sfx, we just didn't have the sound equipment with us that day...and this was just a random video we decided to film on the spot.
Things I liked: The angle shots on the slider. Color. The drum beat at 0:58 and the tree shots in general. Vertical slider work at 4:53. Story line. Location.
Things I'd do differently: A little less slider between 1:47 and 2:04.
That's about it.
It's taken me a while to catch on to you sense of humor, but I got all the facial expressions. Nice job you three.
Loved the look. You just love that glide shot dont you. What were the setting you shot this at? I know you used mojo, but did you do anything major in terms of the contrast, sharpness and saturation on the camera?
This is absolutely amazing! I can't believe this is the Canon 550d. Compared to other Canon 550d test videos, they are not even near this quality. I know there are many effects, but the quality is so good? well, nothing I understand I guess :p Great job!
amazing movies really great stuff. so good i've just gone out and bought the canon 550d ;-), more tutorials please for use that know very little please ..
LOL i really liked this. amazing shots and details. i laughed. i dunno if it was supposed to be funny or not but like, the seriousness that the man had while drinking and eating was just sooo funny. this was great. thanks.
Your photography style is absolutely beautiful. I am amazed by your ability to get movie quality out of this camera and lens. Great job! My only input would be this and please don't take offense - Are you working on acting skills too? The technical and photography are so beautiful but sometimes gets overshadowed if a particular scene displays overacting or unnatural acting. You guys are incredible though and I am sure this will soon match the photo quality!
@Dod3032 - Luke, I thought your evil expressions were a bit too comical, or over the top, but maybe that was your intent. It seemed to me that you were overdoing it and perhaps the expression could be a bit more subtle. It was like you wanted to make sure the viewers knew you were evil. In "Cemetario", your wife made a frown at the end which also was overdone. Maybe she was trying hard to get the expression because she was wearing glasses? Silent film is difficult.
@Dave51262 Yeah, both of those were intentional, ha ha. It's a mix of our weird sense of humor and the fact that we wanted to convey certain things without using audio or dialogue. So in a way it had to be a little more over the top to get the point across. Like I said though, you can attribute 80% of that to our sense of humor. That smile I give for instance is something my younger sister and I have done since we were kids, and so it's almost an inside joke
@Dave51262 Same thing with Marika's face in Cemetario, she always gives that face to me when I do something that offends her and so it was more of an inside joke in between us, but, that face is pretty funny. Also with that one, there was no script of no point to the story other than to use it as a tutorial so we were just having fun with it.
hi ! beautiful shots. How did u set up ur camera ? like the ISO , Shutter speed , Picture Style , is it 1080 24p .... ? Did u use any lights around to help ur lighting or u only use Magic Bullet mojo
What shutter speed did you shoot this at?? I use a 50mm 1.8 prime too at 1/50 in daylight, but it doesn't look as crisp as this. Am I missing something? Did you make enhancements in post?
@zume2600 I actually just finished filming my 3rd tutorial which will be all about this subject. It will be a setting by setting breakdown of each shot from a short movie we filmed...should be out in a few days!
@CleanEdgeProductions Good question...what is the shutter speed?? When I shoot with my 50mm prime at 1/50 it doesn't look this good. Am I missing something?
@CleanEdgeProductions I really don't remember the exact settings for this one. I am going to be posting a little tutorial soon that will be all about settings that we use for our movies. Should be out soon!
that response explains nothing, and everything I've heard and read and from my experience shooting with your shutter open for half the frame gives the most pleasing motion blur. Depending on the situation and if no ND filters are available then you may want to wander from the 180 degree rule, but if you're totally clueless try shooting at 1/50th 1080 24p with widest aperture and lowest ISO using ND filters to control exposure. Typically this is the look people are going for...
@Slixys Well, that part is true. But having that motion blur is only a matter of taste. I love the harder look of a fast Shutter Speed and I always have. There is a time and a place for both really. With a fast Shutter Speed (1/100-1/200) and no movement from the camera, you can get some very nice results.
I think you are mixing up rules here too btw. The 180 degree rule has nothing to do with Shutter Speed. The Shutter Speed rule isn't a rule, it's just a guideline. But it can be broken
faster shutter speed IMHO gives a choppy look and detracts from the flow of motion, however it can make it easier to motion track and roto in post...
In some situations you would want that effect, however if you are trying to mimic film you should shooting somewhere near the 180 degree shutter rule.
If you think that the shutter speed rule has nothing to do with shutter speed then you should do a bit of googling
@Slixys I didn't say the Shutter Speed rule has nothing to do with Shutter Speed. I said the 180 degree rule has nothing to do with it. The 180 degree rule has to do with camera angles. I also think you are listening too much to what "Videomaker" magazine tells you. The "film" look can be many things. Have you ever seen a Tony Scott film? Have you ever watched Gladiator. They use Fast Shutter Speeds constantly and are shot on Film Cameras.
@William82oct Not too long really. You should be able to get the basics right off the bat. To master it would take more time but really, more experience using it.
If you are shooting someone from the front, as in, you are shooting their face.
Imagine that they are standing in the middle of a big circle. Now imagine that you have to cut that circle in half (180 degrees). Now, you can only get angles from within that remaining half circle.
So, assuming you chose the front half of the circle, you could move over to the right or left side of their face to get a shot but you couldn't shoot from behind them.
I love the great moments of tension in this, works really well like a good the bad and ugly type thing. I also have a 550d i bought recently, and I have heard people talking a lot about the 50mm lenses for filming with the 550d and say it looks excellent, what is your take on this?
great video man it would have been nice if one was wearing a different color shirt because if i didnt watch it twice i would have thought it was the same guy at the start walking away with his cans and then the short wouldnt have made sence. awsome job though i really like the dolly shots great work man
@Bemersd Ha ha. That actually was going through my mind as we were getting the last shot. It was just one of those random movies we came up with and filmed on the spot...quite literally made it start to finish and came up with the ideas as we went.
@Dod3032 : I like your movies. you're very yeasty. The way you see the shot is just like pros. I can't wait to see your zombie stuff ;-)
And you know what, last week I watched your movie "chips"...I don't know why but for some reasons I can't even eat any of these now...that is probably good for me...so thanks! Cheers from Luxembourg!
:48-53 Beautiful; reminds of some of those shots from the Fellowship of the Ring, when Gandalf enters the Shire! Where can I watch episodes of LightFace?
@Dod3032 You three guys are becoming the advocates of the T2I in youtube. I love your videos, how they look, and always i get a good laugh with the content and as many other users i will get this camera soon, but for Visual FX work. Cheers.
What font are you using in the opening credits. Not the very first font, but starting with "Pete Dryden" are you using any plug ins to make the font move like that?
Awesome friend, the quality of the Canon T2i is phenomenal, I just buy it but I can not minimize the delay of the image to make panning (Full HD 1080 24fts) pauseado is rather fluid.

@Gillesv147 Yeasty eh? I like it! It's funny, I haven't even been able to think about Chips since we shot that.

:48-53 Beautiful; reminds of some of those shots from the Fellowship of the Ring, when Gandalf enters the Shire! Where can I watch episodes of LightFace?
StillicdiumInclino 1 year ago
@StillicdiumInclino Wow, comparing our little movies to The Lord of the Rings is quite the compliment!!!
Dod3032 1 year ago
@StillicdiumInclino Lightface is on hold for the time being...sorry bra!

@Dod3032 You three guys are becoming the advocates of the T2I in youtube. I love your videos, how they look, and always i get a good laugh with the content and as many other users i will get this camera soon, but for Visual FX work. Cheers.

What font are you using in the opening credits. Not the very first font, but starting with "Pete Dryden" are you using any plug ins to make the font move like that?
sixamsedna 1 year ago
@sixamsedna I cannot for the life of me remember the font! It's just a simple tracking keyframe in Sony Vegas for the move

awesome zoom in shot on the eye
first dolly pan shot was awesome
but i think i might agree with @pediamuusika, the dolly shots did get kind of excessive

Booo! Hiss! Can never have enough camera movement. It's what sets us apart from Photographers...Booo! Hiss!
Dod3032 1 year ago 2
@Dod3032 haha, i understand. some aerial shots would definitely offset the dolly's in my opinion, i just don't know how practical that is
AndThePursuit 1 year ago
@AndThePursuit I actually just got back from Aerial shots for Lightface yesterday!
Dod3032 1 year ago
@Dod3032 awesome can't wait, will they be in the next installment/episode?
AndThePursuit 1 year ago
@AndThePursuit I think they will be in Episode 3 and 4.
Dod3032 1 year ago
AWSOME!
But I think there was too many dolly shots.
pediamuusika 1 year ago
@pediamuusika I'm pretty sure you mean, not enough dolly shots.
Dod3032 1 year ago
Interesting, but I found the drinking and eating part quite extreme, and I didn't understood why it was like that.
TheARTnSTUFF 1 year ago
@TheARTnSTUFF You're right, it was a BIT excessive. You should check out "CHIPS" it will be much more of what you're looking for!
