Something to be said about the Metolius fat cams for this situation. More contact surface = less pressure on the rock. Though deeper should have done the job. It would be interesting to look in the crack and see if the cams left tracks on the way out. All in all, solid effort, and great belay. Sometimes shit just happens...
I can't help but think that if the pro was placed deeper it would have had more chance to hold. I mean, you'd have to split the entire crag apart if it was deeper. Obviously in the video it's hard to tell, but maybe something to keep in mind when climbing on sandstone in the future?
@KurtClimbs not to mention the blue alien only unclipped because the biner spun so the gate was against the webbing. Kurt did a good job here, and similarly located gear had held earlier in the day for a lighter leader.
My heart sank when the first cam popped.
The next three popping almost made me shit my pants.

I've pulled small gear at the creek because it wasn't placed deep enough. Is this the same scenario? Cams that size should hold. I pulled a gray TCU
