  • I fell about a month ago catching myself with my right arm. It did hurt right away but has gotten worse. (can't say that I've taken care of it since) Right now there is no way I could do the towel exercise, it hurt just watching it. I've had such bad experiences going to doctors. They don't seem to care as much as caring doctors may think. IF I have a tear would these exercises be harmful to it. I'd like to try them to see if I indeed need to be seen. Thanks for any answers.

  • Speak louder!

  • i play baseball im a freshman catcher in college and either my rotater cuff or or front deltoid most have a tear in it. since junior year in high school sometimes id throw it down to second base and id be in so much pain i couldnt lift my arm. any idea what it could be?

  • I think I've tear it so many time now... but my arms still somehow worjs.. is this normal? O.O"

  • hey guys.. I am training in kickboxing for competition..

I recently find that my lead shoulder pops out when I throw a lead punch every now and then. this happens when it gets hyperextended. this happened two times in a row in sparring. It doesn't seem to have been dislocated, and it isn't debilitating or painful, but it puts me off for the rest of the night when I'm training.

I'm probably going to the doctor for this. would swimming, light overhead lifting be a wise thing to do ?

  • Thanks for the video! This could save me a trip to physio. The exercises are very simple and effective.

  • Thank you.

  • very informative bt the way he speaks makes me sleepy....ehhhh...typical mono tonus lecture hall style:P

  • im eating 50 mg of dicoflenac sodium.... my arm feels so weak.. im scared to do anything with it.

no pain anymore.. i tore it 3 days ago ( i think i tore it) it felt like i broke my shoulder....

I slipped when i snapped the ball playing football.. when i accellerated, i slipped and over extended my left arm to try not to fall.. and bam... my shoulder pain was INSAANNNE

    so worried... fml

  • @Sensfan613 same thing here....it went SNAP when I threw a punch then it was mild soreness...but the shoulder doesn't feel as strong as it should

  • 4:05 is when the explanation of the workout (stretches) begin.

  • thanks for posting this - I was diagnosed with this earlier today...will rest my shoulder in a sling for a week and then begin rehab!

  • @JoshyDude15 Do you have any advice for me? I hurt my cuff from benching and military press. It's not terrible but it definitley hurts.

  • I hurt my rotator cuff doing bench press. It's not terrible but it does hurt fairly bad. Has anyone had the same experience and have any advise for me?

  • @arreoman2 train your rear delts more & stretch

  • @arreoman2 Train shoulders with control, stretch and warm up, all u gotta do :) But dont stretch too much before or juts after training. 2 - 4 hours after training, stretch a little. Before training, warm it up with sets of 20 reps, with VERY low weight. 1-5kg is ok for everyone.

  • Dr. thanks for your good info. especially for people who are far from med. facility.

  • Should you not do these exercises if you have not had the surgery yet?

  • i found his tone very relaxing...

  • 3 years ago I was in a snowboard accident and I dislocated my shoulder. The clavicule is still out of place to this day and it hurts when I'm lifting weights. Will my clavicule ever be in place again?

    Thanks in advance

  • This is the best presentation, for content, I have found. The exercises helped.

  • good exercises and info, but work on your presentation, ZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz

  • @garydotwindass

By the way, if you do ever wear a sling, be sure not to wear it for too long otherwise the shoulder will stiffen up too much. The sling should only be worn to give the shoulder / rotator cuff a little total rest time.

  • i had a motocross accident, im 26 and my injury was 5 weeks ago, ac joint seperation (grade 3), decided not to have surgery, but my biggest pain is my rotator cuff, i can't rotate my arm or even lift it, ive been doing a lot of painful exercises and stretches but there's no sign of improvement, it feels like my shoulder is subluxating, i'm still in a lot of pain and havnt had a good night sleep since doing it.

  • @garydotwindass Maybe try some Glucosamine / Chondroitin Supplements might help.

  • @garydotwindass

It sounds like you shouldn't be doing any exercises yet, instead you should rest your arm in a sling, use anti inflammatorys or something to reduce pain as well as ice. Once the inflammation and pain has reduced, then you can start to do exercise. I think doing exercises could make it worse at this moment in time. I was also kept up at night due to the pain.

  • Thanks so much. These exercises really helped. My doc refused to send me to physical therapy and just gave me meds. After three days of these exercises, I feel much better. Not healed, but much less pain.

  • damn. my shoulder is so fucked up

  • Fuck all that wanna fix your shoulders..... Low weight, High rep, side raises.... i shit you not

  • @therealplease I have to agree with you there

  • @therealplease you stupid

  • Damm this sucks I wana bench again.!!!

  • BTW, its the inner rotation hurting me, not outer and I have two pain spots, one, low on the back of my shoulder. The other, higher nearer the shoulder corner itself

  • I've been hurt for three months. Stopped swimming, stopped push-ups, pull-ups, carrying heavy things, pushing heavy doors. I started getting ice and electrical pulses along with massaging cream. Still hurts. Had MRI today. i'm so SICK of this and I want to satrt exercising again, but I still feel pain. 48 years old. Any clues?

  • all those damn exercise hurt exactly where its been bugging me!

  • thank you so much

  • Hi,this was very helpful thanks you :) All it takes is a bit of exercising!

  • ice video, very interesting! thanks for sharing, god bless!

  • this guys voice makes me want to stab myself in the ears

  • no jump to 4:00 or u miss the first one

  • Damn i hope this helps, my bench has gone down like 40 lbs because of my shoulder injury, it doesnt hurt but its like my front deltoid just completely stops working at a certain point, frustrating to say the least.

  • I got a torn rotator cuff on Wednesday and it doesn't seem to be getting better. And I'm shipping off to boot camp in a month. Should I go see a doctor and push back my ship date or try to let it heal itself?

  • @300MUSIC I personally cant speak about the other branches but i can say for marines push your date back, its much better to let it heal at home for another month or two than to heal in a holding platoon for the same amount of time while you wait to start over. If your not 100% showing up there then it WILL become a problem again. i had to push back for a month over similar training issues, its better safe than sorry; you will be pushed. Hope this helps SEMPER FI

  • @300MUSIC Do see a doctor - you will not be able to survive boot camp with a cuff tear! You could end up crippled.

  • hey, i've got an injury to the shoulder, and was wondering if i could get an opinion on it before / if i gotta go to the doc. I took a blow the left shoulder blade and heard two pops and had trouble moving my arm up. the next day, still the same arm problem, and it bothered me when i sneezed (athough breathing's fine). Today (2 weeks later), shoulder rotates almost perfect, sneezing's not much of a bother, but clavicle and upper part of shoulder blade doesn't feel "right" (no pain at all).help?

  • @starkyliam try dmso. i did. it works.

  • @secutorclaudius so is that stuff for inflammations? i tried doing exercises involving shoulders. i'd say doing dips is the hardest, because the upper shoulderblade and clavicle area feels "weak" and (maybe inflammed? not sure what that feels like). i've never had a serious injury before...r u sure nothing's broken? i don't have any serious pains.

  • @starkyliam yeah, that's what they say, it penetrates thru tissue. dips are hard on shoulders, especially if u go deep. a few yrs back my right shoulder started hurting so bad i couldn't even do 1 pushup. for some reason shoulder presses didn't really hurt tho. i applied dmso and took it easy for a while, and started benching 2-3 mos after. it was in the same area u describe. but i'm no doctor.

  • @secutorclaudius could i find dmso at a local pharmacy or is it prescribed by doctor?

  • @starkyliam oh, lord no, no doctor would touch that. i used 2 buy it from henry's but they pulled it off. see, it is only sold as a "solvent", because the fda would never approve such a cheap "cure". when they can sell a month's supply of "joint support" bottle of pills for $40-50, a $10 of dmso that'll last u for months is not good business. as far as i know, u can only get it from the internet, or if u know a horsefeed store (it was 1st used on racehorses). gotta get me some soon, too.

  • @starkyliam sorry i'm ranting, but the us health corp. and fda disgust me. if u decide 2 try some, please leave a comment on my channel and tell me if it worked. i read that u can mix it with some other stuff like arnica oil and what not. they say it's the ONLY stuff that penetrates thru skin and deep tissue, unlike creams and all. also, if anything was broken or torn (badly), u would know it! probably strain, impingement, etc. lemme know & good luck!

  • You people are crazy...

  • hmmhh smells strowberry lol

  • lol i swear this guy looks like russel peters

  • I'm 47. Two weeks ago, got a RC strain. Swimming, slowly for 30 minutes. Good ?? Bad??? Generally. Swimming is repetitive, but if I do it generally?

  • I have hurt my Rotator Cuff by playing table tennis. I'll try this and let you all know how I go.

  • Thanks, Very articulate.

  • The Cane as well the Towel werks well for Me. Nt so much so as for the wall

  • Thank you very much for this videp presentation, it was very informative and helpful, and it has certainly given me some more insight in treating an injury that I've had a quite a while. Thank you

  • I didn't fall asleep watching this. I found him very informative and he's someone who knows his profession. I'm going to use some of the therapy examples here

    Thanks for posting this

  • Sorry.. I fell asleep watching this.. I'm sure this Doctor is knowledgeable but I was hoping for a demonstration.. not a lecture.

  • Shoulder Exercises for Rotator Cuff Injuries by Citihealth that you posted online at "Physical Therapists NYC"

  • how do you know its hurt and not just stressed from the workout? like how if you pick up medium weights alot after awhile your muscles will feel tired and somewhat painful if you try exerting them

  • This video demonstrates three STRETCHING maneuvers; NOT three exercises as the title would suggest.

  • There is no way I could do even 1 of those exercises! Shoulder Impingement from a job I was fired from due to my health. No lock my pop. bad co

  • @meodrowski You need to apply or Workers Compensation and get medical treatment. If you tell me where you live, I can try to find you a qualified orthopaedist.

  • i go to docs and they tell me to rest it for 3 weeks, i come back and its still hurting so what shal i do doc?oh rest it for 3 weeks!!!!my shoulder keeps clicking and its musculer as well i think, does any one know if this sounds like its rotator cuffs?what should i do?exersizes ect?

  • i'm going to try this out, i've had injuries before, none recently but i wld like to prevent them

  • thank you

  • This guy forgot that there are 2 T's in Rotator Cuff.

  • Thnks for the uploader

  • any chance the doctor actually looks at the messages and comment? I did the wall exercise and felt and excruiating pain sort of in the back portion behind my underarm, actually it felt kinda like someone was pinching my skin extremely hard with their fingernails. ummm is that supposed to happen?

  • "insignia patches"? What is he talking about?

  • to much upper body Pressing is not good for the old RC

  • Injuries suck.

  • Thanks for this excellent video! I appreciate when a doctor actually takes time to help patients like this. I hope to heal my shoulder without expensive medical visits, so I'm going to ice it, rest, it and then later use these excercises. Bless you sir!

  • This guy talks good stuff but man, his slow monotone voice makes me want to knife myself......

  • @createcoms i laughed so fucking hard

  • Great video. How many times a day and how many times a week should I do this for tendonitis?

  • for the towel exercise do you place to towel on the shoulder pain cause i need to know and for the arms um i think i do but just in case help me on that as well please i need some help i put some medicine oil but i think it might come back maybe depends if i press the shoulder pain hard but please help me on this please someone you 2 citihealthjso

  • for the towel exercise do you place to towel on the shoulder pain cause i need to know and for the arms um i think i do but just in case help me on that as well please i need some help

  • The title says 3 exercises. The first two minutes have none. C'mon, be honest -- either re-title this or get to the point. This is YouTube, dummy. No windy intro's.

  • lol love how they show someone eating it on a snow board

  • not 430 just to 3:48 for exercises

  • basically even with operation there will be no more football DX

  • Jump to 4:30 if u wanna see the exercises.

  • @NicolaiResch

    Thanks

  • @poposisa i know, cant edit now. Ill tumb u up

  • thank you so much! I've been dealing with a rotator cuff injury for 7 years and you helped me almost completely heal my injury through these exercises... no idea why I didn't search for this earlier. I guess I thought the injury happened so long ago that anything I did now wouldnt help. I do them everyday now for about ten minutes.

  • Nice video

  • FUCK...IM GONNA BE A CRIPPLE...ON MEDS FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE?...IS THAT WHAT YOUR SAYING DOC?....

  • nicely done, advertising and providing some valuable information, worth the viewing

  • HA ! I have number 2 and I have a lot of pain when I'm trying to do it !My only problem is that my affected arm feels more boney on the posterior...so I'm scared that I have a posterior dislocation.

  • Thank you Dr. Tashjian for making this video.

  • no serguryyyyyyyyyyyyy

  • same issue from volleyball

  • thank you

  • how often are you supposed to do these exercises?

  • Comment removed

  • i poped my shoulder out of socket i dont get much pain at all but my posture in my right shoulder seems to sit forward slightly wat exercises could be good for me the only way it hurts is when im throwing a quick punch and it hurts then i can feel it popping out again but just stays in socket my shoulder blade seems to sit different too i use to do lat pull downs behind neck could this cause a freak muscle to grow and push my shoulder forward slightly ???

  • @y3sprint Hello there,I'll recommend to go to see orthopedic and have it checked up,I have the same injury as you and I didnt really tooked care of it during the years it kept popping out untill now my should its easily pop out,I cannot even play any hand sport like basketball, tennis, hockey or any martial arts and that sucks.

  • @y3sprint I have same issue!!!

  • dang these exercises are tougher than bench pressing lol

  • Good source of info.

  • dude looks stoned...

  • I agree with politically censored. The info in the video is exactly what a doc told me when I saw them about my rc tend. However, the video provided more info and, quite honestly, was more personal and warm than my face to face visit. go figure. i could have saved my 35$ co pay.

  • and once again

  • if u have a full or partial tear . will u be able to move the shoulder at all? mine hurts after bench pressing.

  • I had open rotator cuff surgery at the age of 46. The rehab was excruciating, and I found tennis ball therapy as a form of self massage to be great but moved on to softballs. It doesn't require anyone to assist you and this simple therapy provides deep tissue manipulations increasing circulation, breaking down scar tissue, and some joint mobilzation. My range of motion is virtually normal, the arm has good strength, and is remains pain free 6 year later.

  • @ShiatsuMD What sort of tennis ball therapy?

  • For anybody with a rotator cuff injury is it painful to do pushups and bench press.

  • @ramundo07 yes rediculously painful but im always playing basketball and i play through the pain with no problem its more when i try to move doing household tasks like simply reaching over to lift my laptop was impossible this morning

  • @and1balla4life that sucks, im just doin my own rehab at the gym, i can now do pushups put its painful and i think i tore a ligament. im hoping it heals within the year cuz im trying to join the military.

  • and OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY too! :)

  • tht sux cuz both my shoulders a screwd up "/

  • Want free health care? Youtube is a start. I've been to three "doctors" and found Doc Youtube for more helpful: no appointments, no fees. sweet!

  • @PoliticallyCensored same story here bro, i had an injury in my shoulder, i swear i spend 1 yeah in physioterapy with no good response from my shoulder.. in one month doing exercises from a channel in yputube i got 100% good. Now my other shoulder is hurting, so here i am, learning how to fix it. Viva youtube doctors! lol

  • @PoliticallyCensored I am going to get an MRI soon, but its been 2 years now for me in my left. Does your pain ever travel into the back of you're neck? I am a little scared to see what the MRI is going to say

  • @StealYaMind

It doesnt really matter what info the MRI gives you. If YOU have sensation then YOU are aware of an issue whether or not there is structural sign. You have not given much detail but it could be you are feeling levator scapula sensation which is dorsal scapular nerve which exits C5. So it could be a neck issue. Could be tensioning of that cord in the brachial plexus that is giving you the appearance of a dorsal scapular issue. DS nerve also feeds rhomboids so u may have a rhom issue

  • @ZachariahSalazar That is all Chinese to me , but thanks for taking the time to explain it. I will probably be arthritic by 30 lol oh well, God bless

  • @PoliticallyCensored

I never thought of it that way, but damn... you're right!! :)

  • Great stuff, but I want to be sure this is what I SHOULD do...

When I rotate my arm or do, for example, a YTWL exercise, my shoulder cracks...

Same thing happens when I rotate my arm...

  • Excellent! Thank you very much.

  • thank you doc, very nice. :)

  • thank you we appreciated.

  • THANK YOU VERY MUCH

The THIRD exercise repair my shoulders .

  • Would a shoulder dislocation count as a rotator cuff injury? I just recently dislocated my shoulder, and I'm looking for some exercises to help prevent it from happening again.

  • Wouldn't recommend these exercises to anyone with a rotator cuff problem (past or present). Without writing a dissertation as to why, find a physical therapist w/ OCS or FAAOMPT credentials. Let the orthopedics deal w/ the non-conservative treatments, not the conservative treatments!

  • Atta Boy! Good Dr!

  • Thanks Doc!!! Thats the best video on the shoulder I've seen on the tube.

  • the towel raising; whenever I do that with my injured arm it hurts. so what should I do please help.

  • i tore my rotator cuff when i was 13 playin baseball last year. Now i'm 14 and i'm just going to therapy

  • i saw this vid - months ago - and have been doing my physio exercises and exercising with light weights all has been good, my pain came back 2 days ago, as it does occasionally - we are only human - i searched on you tube tonight - in a lot of pain and found this post again - I performed the walking wall stretch - instant relief - thank you x one million times - Craig

  • ive been having shoulder pains. excercises like pulls ups any kind of presses and swimming inflame my shoulders. doctor and therapists says nothings wrong but it just dont feel right. i wanna get back to training hard but am unable. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • @DimaSilchenko you are a very stupid person to make such an ignorant remark wow!

  • @DimaSilchenko How many of your friends did you have help from, to post this comment??? Because i bet you iq is way lower then your age. !! And a relevenat shot at your age would be 13. Good luck with your life and remember breathe innnnn and oooout...!! ALLWAYS..!!

  • i have a tendonitis as a result of weight traning!!!! what shoul i do to heal it fast

  • REST

  • wrong! resting it is not good. u have to stretch often and rehab! there is little blood flow to ur shoulders so to fasten the healing process, u need to stretch and do rotator cuff exercises.

  • sorry buddy there is no way to heal it fast. I injured my rotator cuffs and had minor tears. after 3 and half months of physiotherapy, I can finally lift again. that is 10 lbs dumbells. but pain and everything is gone. anyways find ways ur gona need tons of patience. Im a gym rat and it was pain to stay away from weights.

  • @silentgoodhrm tiger balm takes the pain away, supposedly increases circulation so as to heal it also.

  • i have a rotator cuff injury as a result of weight training. how often should i do these exercises in order to reap maximum benefit?

  • daily. as many times as you can

  • Thank you for this information! Extremely helpful. Doctors at a visit do not have time to explain all of this. I appreciate it.

  • Cure Shoulder Pain here: watch?v=Q0uOvCtrf6g

  • CYBERPT is BY FAR the best site for physical therapy. I Definitely Recommend it!

  • Thanks for this video...I learned something here.

  • yea when i was 15 and dislocated my shoulder for the 3 time the doctor said u dont need surgeyry just work it out and now ive had this problem my whole life

  • with no basis..

no correct scapular motion...no correct function of shoulder...

today we talk more about time of activation than stretch or strengh every muscle that we see

  • @JasonRadley yeah use toilet paper on ur head If it gives bum bum hairs why not give head hairs

  • And you can´t recommend more exercises?

  • shoulder mobility is limited, so that is probably all that's necessary.

I find that Tai Chi chuan helps a lot, should probably do it more...

Yeah I hurt my shoulder while executing gedan barai (downward block I think), a Karate block, so now I am restricted to Tai Chi. Its really weird; it hurts, but not that much, and I can still do pushups, however I can't do Karate at all.

  • He is armeninan, I''ve heard armenians are the best doctors and chess players in the world

  • as well as leg lock specialists

  • Y must do this exercise after pain goes??or u do them to heal the shoulder???

  • you do them after the pain has gone so you dont cause any more inflammation or damage to the shoulder. Im one of those people who left it too long. and to have the surgery now will cost approximately $15,000 new zealand. Dont leave it too late.

  • These are useful stretches and this is a pretty good video but much more is needed than this.

Like he says, the shoulder injuries do not heal themselves, same with general weaknesses and imbalances.

Most people to one degree or other have these various shoulder problems, often affecting the neck and upper back as well.

The problem I have with the medical profession in general is that the doctor will treat something in one way, physio in another, the surgeon in another etc.

    More is needed.

  • my arm and collar bone hangs down lower than the other i beleived im screwed, my neck and whole back hurt as well, especiall;y after i almost snapped my neck on the inmubla imblugata or whtever the hell thats called

  • The good news is that you can fix pretty much anything if you have the will to do so and if you do what is required.

Most people won't go through the pain associated with strengthening and stretching the shoulders in order to stabilise them but I have seen people with horrible shoulder problems fix them to the point where they are better than ever, including my own.

  • Likewise. Often you also have to do a lot of research to figure out what to do, and many people don't have the patience for such measures or will have them shot down by others with only a basic understanding of how the body works.

  • Yes it's fair to say you have to want it badly and these days I teach others about what to do in order to rehabilitate injuries etc but I find that 99.9% just don't want to know.

People these days are painphobes and really only want an instant medical/pharmacological fix but there is the odd person who is will do do what it takes to fix a spine or a shoulder or neck properly.

My other experience is that most of the professionals are not of much use in the process either unfortunately.

  • The usual professionals definitely aren't very useful at all. For the most part, if you want to rehab an injury of any kind, the first people to talk to are going to be the guys who work with athletes and encounter these issues as a matter of course - doctors can generally expect to get away with offering sub-par advice, but top-level sports trainers (e.g. Eric Cressey, of particular note with regards to the shoulder) have to know what works if they want to stay fed.

  • thnks cspace

  • mine comes out the socket

  • That's nice.

  • Ya I'm 15 and I have shoulder problems from vigorous activity. I use a stetchable band to strengthen my shoulder

  • how about push up

  • Thank you for this information...it is EXACTLY what I was looking for. Having overcome a shoulder injury years ago with these exercises to go on to doing military press with 200lbs for 7 reps, I had forgotten all about them. Now I am 51 and just beginning to feel the "twinge" again (still doing 190lb presses) and I am encouraged by revisiting these very effective movements...and all for free!!!

  • nice lifts ;)

  • @lilscorsese You are still lifting too heavy to handle! Stop and lower the weight till it doesn't aggravate the problem. My left shoulder almost always has that twinge when I try to go to heavy to fast. You need to do more than rehabilitation exercises, you need to do rotator cuff strengthening with a band. It has greatly improved my shoulder and strength.

  • @lilscorsese You sir, are a FUCKING beast! 51 and pressing 190 pounds. Wow. I can't push a plate. Do you recommended pressing for an injured shoulder? Mine is tweaked, I hurt it years ago and it take punishment from Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai training.

  • someone please help me out i play mens volleyball and we some hi pace intense practices. first my right arm hurt when i extended to farfoward on a hit. and then my left arm which i only really raise to hit with is hurting alot oer then my main arm is like inside the arm on right below the shoulder on the side. its fine untill i movie it and then it just burns. any ideas thanks

  • What about massage? Can that help?
