No... angle is fine... there is not a "set " angle just because it has a tom bridge. It all depends on fretboard thickness and fret height... and besides, some people like a lower feel on a TOM bridge... so i recessed it. the body is routed, and the tome bridge fits into the rout, requiring less angle... Its a common practice.
@killemall1983 How did you recess the TOM? Your guitars look good and look like they would function well, and I happen to be building a guitar. It would help me a great deal if you would share some knowledge.
I don´t know if i see right but it seems that neck on all your explorers isn´t glued in 4 degree angle. So the action is too high - and to prevent that you put the brige as closest to body as possible and because of that you have very low angle between tailpiece and bridge...
Thats because you are incorrect... It does not HAVE to be 4 degrees. EVERY guitar will need a different neck angle, unless the fretboard and fret height are EXACTLY the same. And no, the action was not too high. It could go low enough to touch the frets if i wanted it too. the angle between the bridge and the tailpiece does not matter anyway.
Angle between bridge and tail piece matters... If the angle is too big you get clear and straight tone but you loose tons of sustain and if you have too small angle (like yours) sustain is ok but you loose tone clarity and sound of the quitar will have too much bass frequencies. My own experience with guitars that have too small angle between tailpiece and bridge is - sound which is much more buzzy and palm muting doesn´t sound too well because strings make much less pressure on the bridge.
But it has also some pluses - mostly great solo sound for sweep picking etc. , but rythm sound is a bit too harsh and undefined and this fact is for me the most important cause i´m rather rythm than solo player. But don´t take this comment as negative. Your guitars look awsome and i would like to try one. Maybe the sound will be totally awsome and i will go to hell with my stupid opinions :-D
Well, I still completely disagree... The tone was great. I have a video of it here on youtube... I'll send you the link in a message right now... Trust me, all of that your speaking of is just TONE VOODOO. Ive made near 60 guitars... I know what affects tone and what doesnt.
@T1Mastr im building the same guitar and got a poster the full size of guitar and it said 2 degrees but everyone has a different way of doing stuff even if it is to high he can always change the bridge hight like im not saying your wrong but i say its 2 degrees
Well like i said, there IS NOT A SET NECK ANGLE for guitar building. If you use a thicker or thinner fretboard and bigger frets, the angle is going to be completely different!
Why ESP tuners?
