  • Back in 1985 when I could see this for the first time after years of putting a mental picture to the band I guess I couldn't help crying. Not to mention the Shepperton studios tape. Thanks.

  • Alguem pode me dizer porque todos os shows das decadas de 60 e 70 sempre usam 2 microfones pro cantor? (Tanto pro Peter quanto pro Phill)

  • 28:43 - Peter, a thong - really?

  • @SupernalOne LOL never noticed the thong before!!

  • @NCMountainDavis

Thanks - yes, my wife majored in English lit & watches Masterpiece Theater religiously - so I'm getting a sense of all things British - of course, the Europeans are interested in American ways too, cowboys & indians being just the obvious example - we aren't bound by tradition i the same way, and our limitless resources for the past 200 years have enabled the US to grow & change without people being cramped in little warring countries - so we are less cunning, more forthright

  • Absolutely Epic. Without doubt the best line up. Peter Gabriel is one of my favorite vocalist.

  • there is nowhere to go beyond this. except lamb lies down.

  • A set of young geniouses! I am always amazed by Genesis. Steve and Tony rule on Magical Box.

  • heracleum.......

  • French TV 1972... check out my genesis book... argallo@aol.com

Illustrating those amazing times.... Thanks 06EROS for posting this. Pete was a bit groggy and the sound mix poor, but we can see these kids (20-22) playing old, nearly victorian music...

  • i have this one on dvd and really like it, and i see it all the time

  • genios

  • @goer965 lol :D

  • Super! Бородатый Фил, красавчик Габриэл - ляпота!!!!!!!!!

  • Awesome!!!!!! Too bad they didn't longer (I wish they had played "Stagnation" or "The Knife"). I love the energy in this showcase, and the way the footage takes you into the music. Great post!

  • What's great about this style is back in the day one didn't even need a visuial.. Just throw on any Genesis album and lets be truthfull here, take a few hits or a little wine while the lights were low & let the music carry you away. Not advocating stimulants today just saying how it was back then.

  • @Overs89 Oh you are so correct in describing when an Album was played. Hell it still happens!

  • @firthoffifthtom To me Live had to live up to what turned me on to a group listening to the album on a good stereo system under the conditions that I stated in my last post ie. Yer Album by The James Gang ,Wind & Wuthering by Genesis. I let the music show what it was in my minds eye. You know what I mean.

  • hackett looks like he escaped from an audio video department prison.

  • Love it! the very classically styled guitarist's complete lack of rock syncopation, the singer's lamentable mike technique, but all of them incredibly ambitious and literate. Good on 'em :-)

  • First time I've seen this one.No lights no costumes.Raw live Genesis.Incredible.It always pissed me off when critics would say it was the lights and theatrics that made their concerts so good. This is proof that is not true.I have seen them several times since'78.Every show top notch.Just missed the Gabriel years. Thanks for posting this, very enjoyable.

  • Brilliant band with my favourite instrument - the Mellotron

  • amazing, peter gabriel without mandela.....

  • Early Genesis...There's nothing else like it...and there never will be

  • ive always known their 80s stuff since it ws so popular but now i look at videos like this and realize how different they were back then with peter. very odd music like its almost out of this universe.... but very good :D

  • @victordelarosa50 amazing comment! out of this universe is spot on :)

  • Out of their 32 albums, I have 32 and a maybe 10 CD's. Nothing compare LP's sound for originality. After I bought ''And then they were 3'' I got curious about their previous hits. I got hooked since...

  • MDr so ridiculous XD

  • Peter Gabriel wears a thong? <:-()

  • recogiendo litros de baba...

  • thanks the uploader.ohhh i can c how both phill & peter both suffering, the best break up,sir collins made great music wth the rest of genesis and the great mr gabriel seperate

  • Tres magnifique!

  • Brilliant.

  • @ElZorroFox1

Good idea! I will ask Bill Bruford! Got his telephone number?

  • @details78 911

  • 40 years amazing !!!!

  • This is hilariously bad. :-) Glad that Peter Gabriel grew up. :-)

  • @Nigelxman It's not the best version of this particular song, but the song itself is a great example of progressive rock in it's heyday.

  • GENESIS ROCKS THIS IS THE REAL GENESIS NOT PHIL COLLINS' CRAPPY WRITTING!!

  • Fantastic live performance from their best period. There is a slight middle-classness to P Gabriel's lyrics. (I'm from a "working class" background myself). It dawned on me that alot of prog-rock musical artists probably were from middle-class backgrounds and maybe that's why they tended to appeal more to students than to popular music fans. I personally don't believe in class divides. It's more a case of those who read books and those who don't. (though a privileged upbringing usually helps).

  • @aristotle358 Heck I think these guys were even upper middle class...think they went to private schools, I know they used to practice at Tony's house and the family had some bucks...they used to chill out by the pool during breaks...plus I think they went to a family summer home to write and record Trespass

  • Friends forever. They changed my life. They'll be by my side, till I die.

  • @KentaurTV Then you'll forget everything.

  • Thanks for this upload,,,fantastic!!!

  • THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO! <3 I just recently got into Genesis but I love them. I've been in love with Phil Collin's music since his work on Tarzan but now I'm older, I get to see his musical roots and discover such quality music. Granted that Genesis did go down hill a bit in the 80's but they had to make do with what they had as the members slowly dwindled down to Phil, Tony, and Mike. They worked on what was left. I wonder who's left now that Phil is officially retired from the music business?

  • Boy, Phil was sure keeping a low fucking profile!

  • @details78 Phill is one of the best drummers out there, Ask Bill Bruford, who played Collins Sessions at Seconds Out Days.

  • Boy, Phil was sure keeping a low fucking profile!

  • music from another dimension. . .pure magic.

  • What is quite remarkable about this show....is that it's totally 'live.' Great compositions and playing by the 5 lads. A treasure....

  • the magical music..of genesis...

  • superrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr maravilloso que documento!!!!!! que musica!!!!!

  • You know, only once in awhile will you find a band who writes an eight minute epic about an evil plant and you fall in love with it.

  • @TheOneEyedHound ... kill them w/ your hogweed hairs, this song is BAD!

  • I always wondered how People so young way back then made music so brilliant - none of the hip hop or emo from today could go near this in a zillion years -

  • @GreenhouseEffectGE hi m50 here....my theory is back then not a lot of international radio and NO COMPUTERS/INTERNET/SOFTWARE/Simon Cowell.now its all digital/ sampled/ ripped and non muscians can now make music(if you can call it that) some gems still appear though, so all is not lost...just most of it....

  • @GreenhouseEffectGE

it's the education - the standard upper-class English school curriculum included a great deal of cultural milestones, values, virtues, literature, poetry - to keep up the values that made England great -- America by contrast has a colonial/pioneer/cowboy mythos that stresses fighting opponents and striving to make a living - worthy too, but less poetic - so we have to go back to the mother countries of western Europe for cultural enlightenment - or to ninja anime :)

  • Am i the only one who thinks that Tony Banks looks A LOT like Ted Bundy??

  • @LucianoGallagher Mike looks like the human version of roger rabbit

  • @fantagaro100 What an idiot.... Maybe you're listening to "invisible touch". I can understand you. But This period is different. So please go listening to Lady Gaga again.... poor guy

  • could you put here on the track list please ?

  • horrible horrible horrible he can't hold notes. He can't even hit them half the time.

  • @carpathianfrost go away from this page

  • @carpathianfrost Go fuck yourself

  • @carpathianfrost

Rebien .. estamos de acuerdo .

    Una mierda sin appellido

  • The great advantage of Genesis was their constant neophilia, alas, not far then 1986, when they decided to stop... I appreciate very high all their albums till 1986 including Invisible Touch.

  • Unbelievable to think these guys were in their early twenties putting music out like this. You never see young rock bands with this kind of talent these days. The best of rock bands came out in the 60's and 70's. That must have been a very magical time for rock. Today's rock bands just try to mimick or copy from the best rock in that era.

  • This was when Genesis was great. Later on the band said they wanted to change and I believe that is a healthy thing......to free yourself up to try other things. It is unfortunate that they chose to change into a mediocre hit making top forty band. It worked with the masses but as far as I am concerned, they turned out tripe as a top forty band. They dumbed themselves down to the point that the masses bought their tripe making the band a very rich bunch of nobodies. Oh well, to each his own.

  • cosa dire... dopo tante immagini associate a questa poesia, eccoli... grazie

  • @mahlerisacco Davvero fantastici, unici nel loro genere.

  • Great show, from the beginning of Genesis

  • Thank you so much for posting this . I'm 47 and never got to see this , my favorite Genesis lineup . Thankyouthankyouthankyou

  • What's amazing is to think that this if 40 years old, but it still sounds fresh and young people still seem to like it. I'm 52. I was twelve when this was recorded and I've been a Genesis fan for most of my life. And yet, I'm trying to imagine liking 40-year-old music from 1932 when I was twelve. I didn't dig it. Nobody my age did. I've learned to appreciate a lot of it now, but it was an acquired taste. Music changed in the 'sixties, and there hasn't been such a radical change since.

  • @JMarchOHare i am 52 as well, and you perfectly spoke my mind, 100%, amazing, greetings jmarch

  • @oscardonat: Thanks, man. :)

  • My dream : a genesis concert !! "Doc" Emmett L. Brown help meeeee !

  • @peoniesfleur

It's the chemistry of language, presentation and music.

Interesting that the greatest of the prog rockers really started as pop bands and always had a sense of humor and front man with enormous charisma.

They also built on the English literary tradition for story telling and sense of scene.

  • does someone know the musics ?

  • @Shadic159 Band: Genesis

    Songs:

    1) The Fountain of Salmacis (Nursery Cryme)

    2) Twilight Alehouse (B-side)

    3) The Musical Box (Nursery Cryme)

    4) The Return of the Giant Hogweed (Nursery Cryme)

    (song titles are in video)

  • merci la belgique, une fois!

  • There's GENESIS...and then, with help of the Hubble telescoop...we cant not even find vadenrgraf!

  • @peoniesfleur genesis is better than van der graaf generator !!!

  • Wow. History I didnt know. Amazing and so talented yes?

    Thanks to FB and youtube.

    Thanks and amazed!!

  • Absolutely brilliant - 4 people were overpowered by the might of the Giant Hogweed!

  • This is actually a perfect video, in that it shows just the band. No lights, no huge stage, no screaming fans, just the band as if they were doing a practice session. I think in this day with huge stages, tons of lights, smoke and pyro fireworks, it gives the impression that bands are really bigger than they really are. Thanks for posting this great video as it really gives Genesis the "garage band" quality that all bands start out in the beginning.

  • The individual brilliance of this group alone is amazing in itself.

They have all collectively withstood the passage of time time as reknown artists.

    Acid Music from the 70s

  • I love Tony Banks ♥ He is like a keyboard god to me!

  • 28:42 wait, what? g-string?

  • Who is the girl of the guitar?

  • @gabinoramirez LOL!!!

I guess you're talking about the bass player, not the guitar player (that has beard and mustache).

HE is Mike Rutherford (see the video at 3:31). ;)

  • @gabinoramirez c est Steve Hackett connard !!!!! marre des gens qui ecrivent de grosses conneries ,c est pour ca que je deviens grossier

  • lol)))) That's tremendously awful!))) But i thumbed up))))

  • Yeahh good times ... Peter Gabriel was excellent on stage .. he performed with soul and was extreme visionary .. unfortunately he is not anymore and nobody is.

  • Show me four people out of 555 who can spell geant correctly, and i'll show you four souls who cannot hope to outrun the dreaded Hogweed.

  • @randy63ism

  • I remember being a wee kid and this was often on tv as part of a series including Floyd Live At Pompeii & Atomic Rooster. It was around 1979/80.

  • Good times. Extraordinary.

  • i love love love it

  • love, love this era of genesis!!! the only era that mattered in my opinion, gabriels voice is magic, and collins was amazing behind the kit...to bad they'll never do a reunion tour

  • what's the first tune?

  • @BassLudeman The Fountain of Salmacis. It's on Nursery Cryme, the first record with Phil and Steve.

  • @BassLudeman Actually, every song they did here was on Nursery Cryme except for Twilight Alehouse which was, I think, the B side of the Watcher Of The Skies single.

  • loving "geant hogweed"...little did they know when they recorded this for (i think) belgian tv that we would be watching it 40 years later.

    wow.

  • awesome upload, but i've got one question... how are you able to upload videos as long as this?? isn't the limit 10 or 15 minutes? i've even seen one upload recently that was *FIFTEEN HOURS* long!

i've got two whole boxes full of rare old genesis bootleg vids that i've been collecting over the past 16 years or so. i'd would love to capture them from VHS (wow, remember those?) and upload 'em here too.

  • @kingcrimson234 | Based on YouTube's rules: Longer length uploads are available globally to users with verified accounts. Videos can be up to 12 hours long. You have to verify your account by going to the upload page link on your account. If you can't verify your account, the maximum length is 15 minutes.

Commenting on the video: can't believe PG is only 22 here.

  • @frow9405 yeah and except for hackett (who's birthdate is literally a day before gabriel's), peter was the oldest in the band.

  • kick ass! Why don't you touch me! Love all you guys even after your disbandment!

  • Anybody out there who says phil isn't a good drummer or criticise genesis should watch this !!!! Brilliant underated band of their time

  • @SovietWarhead not true my job was to show what an unimaginative , moronic nancy boy you are, and I have succeeded!

  • @jsilence418 so to prove im moronic and unimaginative you go off and say tony banks looks like ted bundy... yeah ok that makes sence i guess you did win... hope your children die

  • @SovietWarhead your father dies in your mouth every night, after about 5 minutes of pumping,

  • @jsilence418 i dont understand after all this you still think im the moron ._. i guess some people will always think their better then others without a good reason to think so, oh well

  • @SovietWarhead You gay guys and your hissy fits, the only time anyone has their mouth open as much as you do especially with nothing to say, is when they want a meat stick stuck in it ! yeah, sounds like you alright.

  • @jsilence418 Your words sound nothing like your taste in music. maybe it is a good time for to just take a little time-out and take a look in the mirror @ who it is and touch yourself and forget him, cause it still hurts after all these years and forgive yourself for not knowing how else to deal with the pain. Do you think SovietWarhead is hurt by your words...maybe, but he will probably never have the guts to kill himself and your children will l.ive on.......hay check this shit out!
