Eat 500-800 calories a day lift weights with 30 mins moderate cardio take a multi vitamin and eat calorie free veggies for meals. You will drop 60-80 lbs in 4 months I promise you. Its the gastric bypass diet without the gastric bypass. After you lose the weight SLOWLY!!! increase you calories until you level out. NEVER go back to what you were eating before.
The four best things you can do for yourself -clinically depressed or bipolar are as follows.1.Most importantly, get PLENTY OF EXERCISE. Exercise causes body to release serotonin & (sp?)epenephrine, the body's natural"feel good" hormones.2.Eat healthy. Not so much about dieting as it is making better choices. 3.Find a good psych who will monitor your meds & ensure therapeutic levels. 4)Do things that make you feel happy & fulfilled. Live. Love. Most of all LAUGH! p.s. Liz- a fellow traveler?
I never thought someone could say mind opening stuff on that much meds. Seriously, you sound like your emotions are more or less flattened by the medication, but in a way it makes a lot of sense. I kind of chose to fight it without medication, which makes me feel good at times when got through a hard mood. Then again, though my depression seems chronic, I'm not psychotic without meds.
I think the whole meds and weight gain issue is really hard to figure out. When you're depressed you can gain weight, but is it really the meds, or just you. I was on one med and I gained 50 pounds, but the one I'm on now hasn't made me gain any weight. So who knows?
What about alternative therapies? Have you ever tried: Orthomolecular Medicine? There are regimes for Bi-Polar and Schizophrenics in it. Margot Kidder suffers from it and uses Orthomolecular Medicine regimes and hasn't had an episode in nearly ten years. Look it up on Google...she has a website too:)
I guess. It's just depressing to me because I talk so honestly about everything: bipolar, rape, abortion, OCD, anxiety, Judaism--my life is an open book. I've even written about dealing with compulsive eating in my family. So it bums me out that someone woud say that.
you do realize she has an eating disorder and needs to gain wieght because she is killing herslef slowly.. I know I once lived my life with and eating disorder.
I didn't know that Liz was anorexic. I could tell she was very thin. But, I guess that is another reason why I mention what you weigh being a state of mind, because I know people who are anorexic think they are fat when they aren't.

You make a great point IKB. I am skinny and depressed
right now. I would REALLY prefer to be fat and
happy. Hell, I'd grow a second head if it meant
I could be truly happy :-)
