How did you manage to get your Flightgear not to lag when urban effect is on??

in 2.4 when i put urban effect on and i put maximum on quality it's the only way to get these 3d buildings but Flightgear's performance then is terrible.

@BRTvirtualAirlines Hey, btw thanks for watching this :) This is an old version of a development snapshot when released version was 1.9.1. I was testing how it looked back then and posted this video on the Flightgear forums. This video shows the first shaders implemented, like buildings, water and other low graphic performace hit stuff.

Depending on your CPU and GPU go to View->Rendering Options, on Shader Effects set the slider left to 0 and go up one level test and see ;)

Im sorry but...i loved FG for some month...until i download YSflight. Now? Ive got X-plane and i have to say that X-plane9 is much better than FG. But, FG is free. X-plane9 costs 30$.

X-plane is more realistic, X-plane has got better graphics on full (but, that doesn't change the gameplay so much), X-plane has a huge community compared to FG, X-plane10, coming out soon, will have better graphics than FSX, AI, and it will be more realistic than X-plane9.

@Ronnocian i figured it out. you have to set the quality slider to 2 or more. my framerate dropped too much when i did it though so i'm not using it. hope your computer is better than mine

Very big thanks...now I finally know how powerful the FG graphics can be...you just have to find the setting or know about them.

Urban Effect Rocks totally hard, man!!!

The potential of this sim wipes the floor with the other tow flight sims around! LOL

Just the Offline-ATC is hard to use...

Nice vid!!! I´ve played a lot of Wings Over Europe/Vietnam/Israel and I love the quality of the models, and although the phisics and instruments programming are not so detailed in these sims, they have beautifull airplanes and mods, same as FG2. Can´t wait to test in a good PC this nice sim, specially the Multiplayer features. ^_^

very interesting effect, thanks for posting! just to clarify - the buildings are automatically (and dynamically) generated from the satellite image applied to the ground mesh? this would indeed be quite a breakthrough... O.o
