What I am saying is, that during times of war civilian deaths are rarely accurately reported, and atrocities are committed by all sides.
During the recent Balkan Wars in the former Yugoslavia, all sides indulged in ethnic-based atrocities -- and these were directly linked to hatreds going back to Balkan Wars of Ottoman Empire, other old conflicts.

I didn't say all, but well over 90% is inter-ethnic conflict; also, infant mortality has DECREASED in Afghanistan since the US-led invasion, again, due to military hospitals and overseas aid. You can NEVER have a "PERFECT" war, i.e. ZERO civilian death So let's not demonize our US troops, and equate them with what happened in Balkans. Thousands of Iraqis children have been saved in military hospitals by surgery, etc...innocent lives lost hurts me, but can't prevent that all the time.

This whole argument about Jews and typical "Jewishness" in helping fight the genocide resolution is absurd. Ordinary Jews usually have been, and are, great allies for the Armenians. Adam Schiff and Brad Sherman are both Jewish and champions of the resolution.
It's only some Jewish organizations that are linked to Israel and have fought against the resolution in the past.

yascen, Hitler did NOT start the genocide 'the very first day'. He took power in 1933, but the Holocaust started fully in 1939 after the WWII began. 1933-1939 the Jew were persecuted but not subjected to systematic annihilation.
Similarly, the Armenians were persecuted before WWI, but only fully 'liquidated' during the war.

This does NOT surprise me, as she is also responsible for HR 1955/S1959, the infamous "Thought Crimes Bill". This woman purports to be for "Civil Liberties", but she was a STAUNCH Bush supporter, who CO-SPONSORED this bill & the warrantless surveillance bill; her top campaign contributors, "Northrop Grumman", defense contractors ... she has been nothing but a WOLF IN SHEEP'S CLOTHING!

For Representative Harman to come from a family of Genocide survivors yet lack the integrity to properly characterize the events that befell the Armenian people from 1915-1923 by succumbing to baseless threats from Turkey is tantamount to GENOCIDE DENIAL. So the position she holds with regards to this issue is one of a HYPOCRITE, LIAR AND GENOCDIE DENIER.

My father was a refugee to the United States from Nazi Germany. I understand the consequences of ethnic and racial persecution, and am committed to fighting and condemning acts of genocide wherever they occur. That is why I agreed to cosponsor H. Res 106. I am convinced that a terrible crime was committed agains the Armenian people. That crime should be recognized and condemned.

However, following a visit to Turkey earlier this year that included meetings with Prime Minister Erdogan, the Armenian Orthodox Patriarch and colleagues of murdered journalist Hrant Dink, I have great concern that this is the wrong time for the Congress to consider this measure.

Due to my security focus in the House, I have made 18 trips to the Middle East region over the past 14 years and am persuaded that Turkey plays a critically important role in moderating extremist forces there. Given the nature of the threat, I believe it is imperative to nurture that role- however valid from the historical perspective, we should avoid taking steps that would embarrass or isolate Turkish leadership.

I understand and sympathize with the sentiments expressed by H. Res. 106. However, in my view, passage of the resolution at this time would be destabilizing not only to Armenian-Turkish relations but also to our efforts to create stability in the greater Middle East. I urge you to delay the markup and I continue to hope that NO VOTE will occur. But should it occur, I WILL OPPOSE THE RESOLUTION.

I just want to point out that there is no such thing as "Armenian-Turkish relations". This is something Turks (Genicide deniers) came up with to fool the world into thinking that the Turks and the Armenians have put the Genicide issue behind them and are ready to have normal relations with each other. I think that as neighboring countries Turkey and Armenia should have normal relations. But the first step in building such a relationship must be the recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
