Genesis chapter 1, male & female created at the same time and given dominion over the earth as hunters & fishermen, told to be fruitful and multiply. Genesis chapter 2, no one to till the ground, Adam created(alone) as a farmer to keep & dress GOD's garden, other plants & animals(farm) created in front of Adam for proof of GOD as Creator, not good for him to be alone, so rib used to make Eve as helper, not told to be fruitful & multiply. More to it, but enough for now, Peace2Ya
CLRubyHypatia is right. The book of Genesis begins with two different creation stories by two different people. You can stump any creationist by asking for the first 56 verses of Genesis in correct chronological order. The first is the 6 (plus a day of rest account), then the second occurs in one day (yom). The order of the two stories is different, man is created after plants and animals in the first, before them in the second.
this is actually what happend... in the bible adam and eve had two sons cain and able and cain killed able and so all of a sudden cain gets a wife... well the bible doesnt mention that adam and eve could probably have more kids so cains wife is actually his sister. God only put certain people in the Bible. and didnt want every single people since it grew to be so many people in the world and just wanted important people and who have good stories to read... so thats how cain got his wife...
woot lillith! showing us god is slightly(or alot) anti woman, women are equal to man or better sead should be seen as equal by law and stuff in order to achieve a fair and just society in that aspect

Genesis chapter 1 is an overview. Chapter 2 gives a specification of the creation of Adam and Eve. It's thought that the first and second chapters weren't written together because there is variation in the author's mode of wording from one chapter to the next.
It's like this, Eve was Adam's 2nd wife. I kid you not, first Adam and LILITH were created (the same way, from dust), and Lilith wanted equal rights (the 1st feminist!), which of course led to a huge argument and Lilith invoking god, so she could leave. God couldn't make her come back (cursing her kids for her disobediance, making 100 of them die every day), so he made a new woman from Adam's rib, thus making her submissive to Adam.
Presumably, those outside of the garden were Lilith's children.
Does it say it in the bible? Were? I wanted to read that for quite some time but was too lazy too look it up. Oh yeah and she is supposed to be some vampire?
No, not in the bible. She is first mentioned by I think the Sumerians (that's where the whole creation myth comes from) and she is present in the talmud and the kabbalah. The Lilith story explains why there are two different versions of genesis in the bible.
Lilith is myth... that is all. My friend and I searched it out.... Lilith is not the mother of vampire or any of that... she is myth... there may have been a Lilith but she wasn't adam's first wife...

Babyloff,
Man was the crown of God's creation,. He was made in the image of God, and had a soul. He was not an animal and needed a women. Women was not an after, thought but in due time God created her for man.
Thanks for caring. And thanks for giving me something else to hear besides Carlin while I read everyone's answers. This has NOTHING to do with it but did you ever see that really really scary movie with that man, wife and child on a deserted island and he comes into adolescence and talks his mother into having sex with him because isn't that what Cain and Abel must have done because there were no women? REALLY scary interpretation.
one of the things I don't understand in Genesis is the part where God brought all the animals before Adam but "could not find a suitable helper" for him, so He decided to create Woman. This doesn't make much sense for an omniscient creator, can someone please explain?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
God did not do that for God but for Adam. God will do all kinds of things that seem as though He can't make up His mind but it is not that He didn't know it's that He wants you to know and understand why He is doing it. See if He had just made Eve do you think adam would have appreciated her? No, but after goinf through all these animals and seeing that they are not "up to par" he was joyful and gave glory to God for the creation of his wife.
I have read 2 versions of the bible and it claimed Adam and Eve as the 1st 2 ppl. God made Adam to watch over the animals and that stuff and then he made Eve for Adam.
Genesis speaks of three sons but also says they had many sons and daughters, who we can assume spread out and grew rapidly in number. We are not told when Cain was drove out, only after he killed Abel. So it is not unreal that Cain found a wife, although it would be a relative. We are al related, I guess. Later marrying a close relative was forbidden when the Mosaic law was given.
It does'nt expicitly say that, but it is the conclusion that must be drawn I suppose. However, maybe I was just trying to find an alternative to the unpalateble idea of incest.
In chapter one Moses gives us the order of creation. In chapter two he goes back and gives further detail of the creation of the the first man and the first women. So yes you did not read it right. Adam and eve were the first human beings.
Many do claim that it is a telling of the same thing twice. The bible is full of guessing games like this. Maybe god was'nt in the mood for being concise and wanted people to argue about it. Especially as both chapters have differing accounts to some degree.
do you want to know why your confused??? because the bible is an ancient text, not to mention FICTION text,, so i suggest you try a more modern counterpart of the bible,,, hmmm maybe harry potter.
I feel the bible, no matter how many pages it contains, still baffles me and I remain somewhat skeptical of adam and eve. Like the phrases "God made adam for eve" and "God made eve for adam"
Basically, they are probably 2 creation stories, old spoken stories that probably were jumbled up into one bible. Remember back then only the rabbis (and maybe wealthy people) could read. So people could not examine the bible for themselves.
We find multiple examples where one piece of biblical semantics may coincide with reality on a small level. However, using the exact wording of a thousand-times-translated text to say something could have happened a certain way does not my a long shot mean that everything else in the bible is true.
And the other argument you make is "God makes man and woman, Adam and Eve".
Uhh, no.
It was Adam and LILITH. But since both Adam and Lilith were EQUALS, God didn't like that so he made another woman, out of a 'spare part' of a man, therefore establishing the 'superiority' of man to woman.
Probably because it featured a lot of stuff that even a 5year old would find hard to believe. Mind you, the books they left in are a bit of a stretch, I did'nt believe the adam and eve stuff from the moment I was first taught it at the age of about 6.
Lilith is mentioned in the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Book of Isaiah 34:14, and a few other places. You should def look it up and do a story on it, because it's pure drama material. God makes Adam and Lilith as equals. Adam can't handle an equal woman, and they fight and break up. Adam asks for another one and god makes one out of his rib instead. Then Lilith is demonised, literally. She is used as an omen of evil, demon of death and so on. It's all very interesting.
yeah. so looked up isaiah 34:14. ESV, NIV, KJV, no lilith. NRSV is the only one. way to go for literal translations that put in a hebrew word coming from the root for night, instead of translating to night creature...
can you be more precise than "the dead sea scrolls"? truly, i'd appreciate that.

Actually, little of what you said is accurate at all.
So first of all, you have this thing about "tribe of people outside". I'd like you to quote where the bible actually says that, because I don't believe people can just assume something that's not there to explain it (because then the bible DIDN'T say it and therefore you're just making stuff up to make your beliefs true)
Alright, it sounds better, I'll agree with that, but since it's NOT in the Bible and you're just ASSUMING it's there, aren't you then NOT a christian and instead making up your own beliefs?
Yes, unfortunately the writers of the bible left so many gaps at times you were left to try and fill in the blanks. Perhaps if the rather unbelieveable book of enoch was left in it would haved help. Mind you there were lots of crazy stuff in that book - many more giants mentioned and stuff, lol.
26 Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all[b] the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."
now, focus on the noun "them". The noun them is also mentioned in the next verses 27 and 28.
The Snake in the Garden of Eden that gave them the Knowledge was one of the first creations of the Anunnaki (In the Islamic Culture, they are called the Djinn) They are as we know them the illuminati or the ellite, said to be part Repitillian, hence the link to a Serpent.
The Story of Adam and Eve is true, yet it comes from the Sumerian Culture (look them up)
The Adams (Man) & the Eve's (Women) created by the Anunnaki the people Nibiru the planet of the crossing, the planet that appears in the sky as a red cross, the same red cross the Templar knights adorned.
Most stories pre-Christ come from other sources than the Bible and have been re-scribed to suite the people of the era.
I have read about this, and yes I'm prepared to accept (to some degree anyway) that the story of adam and eve is perhaps a "cloaked" adaptation of something that perhaps really happened. Adam and Eve perhaps being genetic experiments. Again, fascinating - I'm not overly convinced but I would'nt discount it as a possibilty either.
Why were they written? If it's a hidden message for all of us I'd like to know it. If not, why would the elite write a book to send message to the elite only? Why encrypt messages in a book for members of a very closed circle?
It seems to me that the Adam & Eve story is elaborating on the creation mentioned prior, due tot he "in the generations" part above it. However, I find it funny that the order of events changed.(creation of man, then beast, originally beast then man)
I've heard others say that, the idea that it is the same event being described twice. But like many things in the bible - the writing is often subjective rather than concise. However.. that still leaves the problem of where cain got his wife from - unless god had also created a "People R US" store somewhere near by. Of course, it its just a story (which I'm guessing it is) then it needs no more explanation than hansel and gretel does.
Of course it's just a story. It assumes that mankind can exist without knowledge of good and evil, and then be punished for doing evil, which they weren't aware of, by a supposedly benevolent god. (Who so benevolently didn't let them in on what morality was so that they could be moral.)
"However, I find it funny that the order of events changed"
There is a reason for that. Say you are describing things you saw thrown out of a tent. You would likely describe the first thing thrown, then the second thing thrown, then third, etc. Right? The ancients would describe the most important thing thrown out of the tent, then the second most important item, then the third most important. Not chronologically.
So when they switch order on you, it just seems logical to them to describe the creation of man first. He is more important than the beasts. Citing a long list of unimportant items before getting to the important one seemed illogical to them. Maybe they are right, importance should trump chronology. We are so used to living by a clock our attitudes are different.
Actually, you're wrong. Genesis starts by listing man last. When it switches to the "elaboration", man is created, then god creates the beasts for man to name. It doesn't make sense.
